Wrestling with Memories Ep 30: Bret Hart wins his first WWF title!

from Wrestling with Memories · host Wrestlingwithmemories

In our last episode we covered the surprise #wwftitle change which took place a few days after Summerslam 1992 as Ric Flair defeated the Macho Man Randy Savage to become a two time #wwe champion. But slick Ric couldn't keep the belt warm for long!     On 12 October 1992 history was made as Bret Hart won his first #wwetitle by defeating Ric Flair in a non-televised match in Saskatoon, Canada!    This unpredictable and unbelievable moment sent shockwaves through the wrestling industry and the wrestling fan community as no one saw it coming!    There is so much to cover that we had to make this a long form episode (check out the timestamps if you want to go to a specific topic but it's all great!).    We cover:  - Why the title was taken away so abruptly from Ric Flair and why was this match not shown on tv?  - A short history of the Hart family and Bret's early years.  - Bret's eight year journey in #wwe before winning the ultimate prize.   - Who else could have been in the frame to take the championship from Ric Flair (steroids you say??) and the rumours that have evolved over time. Surely not Tito Santana?!   - A debate on the actual match which Bret, Flair and FASH seem to hate (but Wax loved).  - The first few days of Bret's title reign including his post win promo and two untelevised matches the following night.   - And the announcement of his first PPV challenger.   And as ever, there is much much more (including Wax sharing some dubious stats which will be attacked next time!).   Anything can happen in Wrestling with Memories and on this episode Wax and Fash are also distracted by an 'outsider' who wants to start a war....   So get those Hitman shades on, watch, like and subscribe because this podcast is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be!!!!   Timecodes  00:00 Intro  05:38 The Early Years of Bret Hart!   08:25 The Hart Foundation  13:55 Bret's big push with the IC Title!  18:19 The New Outsider Attacks!  19:55 Lost in the shuffle  21:25 Why Bret Hart and not Flair or Warrior?!  25:55 Wax and Fash think of alternatives  31:43 How Bret became Champion!  35:47 The Match itself - Bret Hart v Ric Flair!  42:00 A long wait to become Champion  46:00 Looking ahead!   Also find us on YouTube (WrestlingWithMemories - YouTube) and all other podcast platforms as well as - Just search for Wrestling with Memories!   #brethart #ricflair #machomanrandysavage #scotthall #razorramon #ultimatewarrior #wrestlefest #mrperfect #ultimatemaniacs #brethartvsricflair #brethartwinswwftitle #wwfsuperstars #wrestlingchannel #vincemcmahon #wwe #wwf1992 #aew #wcw #summerslam #survivorseries #wrestlingwithmemories #wrestlingreview #wrestlingpodcast
