Hi. I'm going through the pages now of a book a Self published in clear order for it. I live Excuse me. I'm not editing that out.
You know because it's just anyway. I take self published book I'm doing a presentation on Tuesday night about self publishing and this is a book I've talked about these people the other day This is vamiers step by step guide to natural gardening and alternative employees and it's best decides the latest techniques to easily avoid Poisonous residues on and in your fruits and vegetables irradiated produce. That was a thing. Oh wow.
No, you know Irradiating food. That was a thing and by the way, it was good idea But anyway the natural people just no, no, I'm gonna throw them by Leo Van Mere This book is a little over 200 pages long it has a color cover and It was published by Van Mere publishing and Leo's daughter Mary is the one who did all this Okay, she went through and edited it and did the type setting and the type setting is terrible and all this 1984 when this book was done Self publishing was a total pain and you know what I mean Very difficult me to say what she has to do to this. She told me she did this I was fascinated by this woman as I said in the other podcast was a ball fire She said first of all I have all the pages printed all of the pages printed for me I said, okay, and then I had them collated and you know collating 200 pages by the way these things are printed the pages are printed front and back So that was a complicated thing for a printer to do and she has done by a local printer now We have the cover which is full color has full color picture and she had a design of the color now doing graphic design in 1984 was no easy fee. I'm telling you it was very very difficult.
She told me the program She used and it's going away. It used to exist. It probably still exists But I don't remember it, but she did that all right now to have the cover printed with the full color very expensive back in 1984 Extremely expensive. So what did she do?
She did the layout? You did the whole thing by the way. She only had printed on one side There's no inside the cover printing on either there's just one side and she had it printed in China and they printed it and she had it to her It took her four months to get a cover done once you have covered back She didn't found a book binding company and it was out of state I forget where it was but she should all this grab up to the book binding place and they found all of the pages together and then glued the cover on For however many books she had printed. I think she printed five thousand books I'm not sure she told me, but I forgot that was quite a thing.
Do you know how easy it is to do this now? I have done it. I have self published books on Amazon That's what I'm gonna be talking about on Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Technology Center Let me talk about it now with you now if you have an idea for a book say you want to do a book on what you call us and you have everything done Well, you had to write the book But you have to do an outline of the book now You can use AI to do an outline of the book I'm doing a series of or culture books right now of Florida gardening books And I'm doing I'm doing it as a go on on AI. I'm gonna couple of them And I asked them you know these books are gonna be 80 to 100 pages short to the point books and I said write me a I don't know 10 point outline for the book and In what I wanted it to tell first one about long here You know talking about all the different grasses in Florida.
Give me an outline so AI do I do I guys wrote me outlines I pulled from each of them and did that then I just started writing a I was easy it was just really easy when you have an outline right in front of you You know and it's usually a two to three cents outline and you got that right in front of you just go to town You know hit on the old keyboard and it just comes out. It's relatively easy once you get all of your book written Then you need to get your book edited and don't edit it yourself do this bell checking do the grammar checking There's programs out there like primarily the dual of this for you But you need to edit the book and you need to have somebody do it I go on fiber and look for a book editor Usually if I'm doing something like that, but better than that I got a local woman who is an English teacher and she is going to do all of my editing for me She's very talented and she's going to do it for oh She's going to do it for not a lot of money. Maybe no money Maybe she'll do it if I give her credit on the book my friend terror ritter on her earlier books She would find editors that went to you know the college or locally and she would have them edit the book But they they got credit under under uncover her book work by director edited by blah blah blah So you know and a lot of young editors will have something like that So that's how I'm going to do it, but I'm sitting there holding this in my hand I'm so glad to have this book because it's totally up around I bought the last one on Amazon And it is just so cool even though the the tight setting is horrible. It was horrible type setting not It just yeah, anyway glad to have it and I think it's really swell.
Oh Well, it's been a fun week. I got to get out of here I got to get this thing put together and start on the internet Then I got to work on a newsletter that needs to go out this weekend and then tonight I'm going to my secret men's club secret men's club you say yeah secret and club It's a local group of business people and artists and entrepreneurs and thought provokers we all get together and I can't tell you what we do because it's secret, but it's not that I saw a bit wrong with people except for one guy He's not that good, but normally we can't rob it.
