Wrongfully Convicted, How Our Family Survived the "Hurricane"

from The Watsons: Stronger Together · host Carolyn Watson, Beverly Watson, Carlos Watson

In this episode, we sat down as family and talked about what those years really felt like for us. We called it a hurricane, a nightmare, because that is exactly what it was. Watching Carlos and the company be attacked, put on trial, and wrongfully convicted shook all of us to the core. There was fear, disbelief, and this deep feeling that the system was not playing fair. We talked about what we saw and what we lived through, the courtroom moments that felt deeply wrong, defense witnesses and evidence being blocked, jury instructions changing, and a judge who seemed to be helping the prosecution while carrying conflicts we did not know about at the time. For us, it was not just painful, it was infuriating. But we also talked about what held us up. Prayer. Community. Petitions. Protests. People showing up for us. Even in prison, there were moments of connection, mentoring, and humanity that reminded us that darkness does not get the final word. Through all of it, we kept coming back to the same truth, God always wins. This conversation is also about something bigger than our family. It made us think about the people who go through this without support, without resources, without somebody calling, praying, visiting, fighting, and standing beside them. It made us ask what happens to the children, what happens to the families, what happens to the people nobody sees. And in a lot of ways, this is part of why we are here now. Why we started building what we are building. Why we believe so deeply in creating space for hope, joy, truth, and voices that do not always get heard.   _____________ The Watsons: Stronger Together invites you to pull up a chair at the family table.
