CHINA DAILY Headline Policeman stands trial for killing pregnant woman Summary A policeman is standing trial for allegedly shooting a pregnant woman dead and injuring her husband last October in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. He is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. The woman was five months pregnant at the time. BEIJING NEWS Headline 28 more residents per square kilometer Summary The statistics bureau here in Beijing says an average of almost 13-hundred people reside in every square kilometer in the city, a year-on-year increase of 28 people. People without local Hukou, or household registration, account for nearly 40 percent of the city's residents. Nearly half of the residents are believed to be living in non-downtown areas. SOUTH CHINA METROPOLITAN DAILY Headline Industrial pollutant the top perpetrator over air pollution Summary The environmental protection bureau of Guangzhou says industrial pollutant is the top contributor to the air pollution in the city. Over 33 percent of the PM 2.5 volume in the city's urban area is believed to have come from industrial emission. The second biggest polluter is gas from vehicles which contributes over 20 percent. GLOBAL TIMES Headline Detention center for 'abnormal' petitioners Summary Local governments in Henan are detaining people who they dubbed as 'abnormal' petitioners. The detainees are being brought to the newly built complexes which are often adjacent to local police detention facilities. Criticism is suggesting this is a reemergence of "reeducation through labor" camps under a new name. China officially abolished the reeducation through labor system last year. BEIJING MORNING POST Headline You don't have to have a reason to return goods Summary The latest regulation from China's business administration authority stipulates e-business customers can demand a return of goods without any reason in 7 days after the order is set. Personally-made goods, and fresh meat and vegetables, however, will be exempt from this rule. Those who violate the rule could be fined at most 30-thousand yuan, or nearly 5-thousand US dollars. The regulation will take effect in mid-March.
