Wu Shanzhuan: A Revolution in Interpretation of Chinese Calligraphy

Today I talk about Wu Shanzhuan, one of the most prominent figures of the 1980s Conceptual art movement in China and a pioneer of incorporating textual pop references into his art. His art is Conceptual in nature, often dealing with issues surrounding language. He is known for his experimental works with language and the use of big character posters inspired by propaganda used by the People’s Republic of China in the 60’s.
