WVU Football: Over or Under? (Colorado)

from Mountaineer Moment - WVU Football and Basketball · host Troy Van Camp

WVU Football: Over/Unders to Watch For in Matchup with ColoradoThe Mountaineers will be back at home on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Colorado Buffaloes. West Virginia is a near-touchdown favorite against the struggling 3-6 (1-5) Buffs, who enter the matchup with the exact record that the Mountaineers have. It’s time for our weekly “Over/Unders” to keep an eye on in the upcoming matchup with kickoff set for 12pm ET on TNT.216 WVU Rushing YardsThrough the team’s first 9 games, Colorado is giving up 215.8 yards per game to opposing offenses in the rushing department. While WVU struggled to run the football against TCU, they found a way to get the job done last Saturday against Houston, rushing for 246 yards and 4 touchdowns on 53 carries. Despite the struggles of West Virginia’s offensive line heading into the Houston game and the Cougars’ run defense looking rather impressive in the 3 weeks prior to the Mountaineers' visit, freshman running back Diore Hubbard and company were able to have success. Hubbard had a career-high 29 carries and 108 yards to go along with a touchdown. Take the over here, while West Virginia’s offense certainly hasn’t fixed every issues they experienced in the first half of the season, they have looked better the last two weeks. Look for West Virginia to have a big day on the ground against the Big 12’s worst run defense.3.5 Total Quarterback to Throw a PassWe’ve listed this over/under before in another WVU matchup, but this time we’re talking a West Virginia opponent who may have a few quarterbacks see the field. Kaidon Salter, Ryan Staub, and Julian Lewis have each received game action throughout Big 12 play, with Salter primarily being the team’s QB1.On the other side, the lone quarterback to see the field for the Mountaineers over the last two weeks has been Scotty Fox Jr. Prior to that, West Virginia played 2 or more quarterbacks in every game this season. With that said, and Fox Jr. likely being the “guy” for WVU moving forward this season, take the under, though expect to see at least 2 Colorado QBs.0.5 Sacks for Jimmori RobinsonHighly touted pick up via the transfer portal Jimmori Robinson has not had the season neither he or Mountaineer nation was expecting. However, on Saturday against Houston, Robinson showed flashes of his ability that led to his being the AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. Robinson had a half-sack and an assisted TFL as well as 2 tackles and a fumble recovery. Perhaps for the first time this season, Robinson’s presence on the field had a notable impact. Whether he’s in better shape, getting more reps, or growing more comfortable, expect Robinson to get the quarterback for a sack this weekend. Colorado has allowed 10 sacks over the last two weeks.11.5 Total Receptions for Cam Vaughn, Rodney Gallagher III, and Jeff WeimerScotty Fox Jr. has quickly found his 3 favorite weapons at receiver. Cam Vaughn, Rodney Gallagher III, and Jeff Weimer have hauled in 23 passes over the last two weeks. While West Virginia is expecting to be able to run the ball well against a struggling Colorado defense, expect Fox to find his favorite targets when he can. Though their ability to run the football may dictate how many pass attempts Fox Jr. will have, take the over to hit here.
