WWJD Day 8 - “Follow Me”

“The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”” John 1:43-46 ESV The day after Andrew spends the afternoon with Jesus and Jesus tells him “Come and you will see”, Jesus finds Philip and says “Follow Me.”  In both instances, Andrew and Philip both decide to follow Jesus.  In both instances, Andrew and Philip also both go and tell someone very close to them that they found the Messiah.  Andrew told his brother Simon.  Philip told his friend Nathanael.  Andrew and Philip were both from a city called Bethsaida.  This was in Galilee, near Nazareth where Jesus was from.  Nazareth was not a town known for anything good really.  Andrew and Philip were both most likely disciples of John first.  The interaction between Jesus and Andrew and Jesus and Philip are highly lacking in detailed conversation. However, there must have been enough there for both of these men to instantly go and tell someone close to them about Jesus. Not just tell their brother and friend that they met an amazing person, but that they met the Son of  God - imagine how crazy that must have sounded.  Yet Jesus said “Come” and “Follow” and they did just that.  What is your answer? What is your response? And when you have spent some time with Him, what do you do next? If you really believe that Jesus has made Himself known to you, are you going to keep that to yourself? Are you going to find someone you confide in? Or are you going to tell anyone who would listen? Did these men go and tell because they had great faith and belief or because they needed someone to tell them they weren’t crazy? What did Jesus spend all day talking with Andrew about? What else did Jesus say to Philip? What is the private conversation He has had with you or is waiting to have? We are all different but Jesus still calls all people.  Do you hear Him? Are you listening? Does “Come and you will see” or “Follow Me” make you feel uncomfortable? Do you not tell others about Him because you don’t have enough faith yourself? Are you afraid you don’t know what to say? Just believe like these men did.  Sit with Jesus.  Then go say what these men said.  “I have found the Savior of the world. Come meet Him with me.” Simon could have said no.  Nathanael could have said no.  But they didn’t.  They could see the faith in Andrew and Philip.  Take this good news with you to your most trusted friend.  Someone who knows you better than anyone.  Someone who trusts you.  Go in full faith like you have seen the most amazing thing.  Believe and listen to Jesus.  Take other people to Him.  Let Jesus do the convincing, you just have faith and be obedient.
