WWJD Day 9 - “I Saw You”

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,  “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”  Nathanael said to him,  “How do you know me?”  Jesus answered him,  “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”  Nathanael answered him,  “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”  Jesus answered him,  “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe?  You will see greater things than these.”  And he said to him,  “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”” John 1:47-51 ESV Philip is called to “Follow Me” and is the first disciple we have recorded that did so. Yes, Jesus spent the day with Andrew and met and renamed Simon to Peter, but it was Philip who first heard the words “Follow Me”.  Philip immediately followed Jesus and went and told his friend Nathanael.  Nathanael gives us 2 incredible responses all in 1 story which paint a picture of who he truly is.  Yesterday we heard him say “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”   Today we hear him say “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”  What happened!?  How did we go from “nothing good” to “Son of God” and “King of Israel!”? Jesus spoke,  Nathanael asked a question  and Jesus answered! Nathanael, like most people has heard the fumbling of who Jesus is for his entire life, yet he had never met or experienced Him.  But Nathanael trusted his good friend Philip and Philip loved Nathanael enough to share this incredible news with him.  But Nathanael was still skeptical.  He still needed more.  He needed to be seen.  Like so many of us, we just want to feel like He sees us.  Sometimes, if we’re honest, we spend much of our life wanting to be seen so we feel some kind of value, or we try to stay hidden so no one can ever truly see who we are.  Jesus saw him.  This changed everything! Why? Because whatever took place under that fig tree was a huge moment for Nathanael.  Jesus knew that but was still amazed at his response.  Once you realize that Jesus sees you and loves you and hears you and cares for you, you then see clearly who He is! And Jesus lets Nathanael know that He is just getting started! Jesus is just getting started in your life as well.  Are you willing to trust a friend to lead you to the One True Jesus? When you recognize Jesus will you see Him as Lord and King? Will you follow Him and believe? If you do, He will blow your mind! He will change everything and you will never see the way you once did He sees you and will give you clear vision He loves you and He is the real Jesus See Him as He is and not what you once heard about  Let Him be real to You so He can show you who He really is
