喀纳斯在蒙古语中意为“美丽富饶，神秘莫测”，喀纳斯三湾是沿河线最著名的景观。神仙湾，晨雾笼罩时湖面如撒落珍珠，星罗棋布的小岛与薄雾、阳光交织，仿若仙境。传为仙人漫步之地。月亮湾：反“S”弯河道形似新月，河心"神仙脚印"传为西海龙王所留。卧龙湾，河心沙洲形似霸王龙盘踞，相传为被冰雪禁锢的巨龙所化，沙洲龙形姿态被视为神龙化石。三湾均为冰川地貌+原始泰加林为基底，神话赋予其自然奇观人文灵性。
