阿德勒始终都在追求对于个体的发展，认为人可以有意识的知道自己的发展，目的就是为了追求优越而完善自身。虽然他的个体心理学遭受了很多批评，其中很多内容也确实来源于他对于早年生活的一种偏执。但是，阿德勒的观点确实为人性提供了一种更加惬意和乐观的解释，比弗洛伊德的扭曲和泛性论要让人愉快的多。
