Kabir Thapar aka Bunny ( Ranbir Kapoor ) is a carefree guy whose dream is to travel the world and who doesn't believe in marriage. He lives with his father ( Farooq Sheikh ) and stepmother ( Tanvi Azmi ). Avi ( Aditya Roy Kapur ) and Aditi ( Kalki Koechlin ) are Bunny's best friends. Aditi is in love with Avi but she never reveals it. The three friends go to Manali. Naina ( Deepika Padukone ) who was Bunny's classmate and is now studying medicine wants a break and so leaves for Manali with the three friends. During the trip Bunny and Naina start liking each other's company even though they have no similarities at all. Then one day Naina is about to confess her love to Bunny but then she finds out that Bunny has got a scholarship to the University of Chicago. Now, since Bunny loves to travel, he doesn't want to miss this opportunity and goes to Chicago. Eight years later, Bunny returns to India for his friend Aditi's wedding where he meets Naina again. The old love is rekindled but Naina stops herself from moving on because Bunny wants to travel the world but she doesn't want to leave her family and clinic (she is now a doctor).
