Yggdrasil and the Nine Worlds: A Complete Journey Through the Norse Cosmos | Norse Mythology for Sleep
from Mythology And Folklore For Sleep · host The Sleepy Mythkeeper
Yggdrasil and the Nine Worlds: A Complete Journey Through the Norse Cosmos | Norse Mythology for SleepA slow, quiet journey through the nine worlds of Norse myth, one at a time, made for falling asleep to.The whole shape of the Norse cosmos, told at a pace that's deliberately too slow to follow properly. That's the point. You're not meant to reach the end.Everything in that world hangs on a tree. Not around it or under it — on it, with the nine worlds arranged along its branches and its roots, held together by something that is slowly being eaten from every direction at once. What follows is a walk through all of it. The world of the gods and the hall at the top of it. The world of people, in the middle, fenced off from what's outside. A world of fire at one end and a world of ice at the other, which between them made everything that exists. A world of giants, a world of the dead, and two worlds belonging to beings that the sources describe in ways that don't quite line up. And at the base of the tree, three women at a well who decide how it goes for everyone, including the gods. Whoever first imagined this was building a map of everything, and the strangest thing about it is how carefully the pieces fit.But the point of this recording isn't really the map. It's the hour or two spent drifting through it. The voice stays low and even the whole way through. No music, no sound effects, nothing that rises or drops or suddenly arrives. Every sentence sits at roughly the same level as the one before it, so nothing ever pulls your attention back up to the surface. That's what makes it work on the nights when your head won't switch off. It's just interesting enough to give your thoughts something to hold, and slow enough that they let go of it on their own. You don't have to follow along. You don't have to remember any of it in the morning. If you drift off somewhere near the roots and wake up much later, several worlds further along, you've used this exactly the way it's meant to be used. Most people don't make it past the first half hour, and the rest will still be here tomorrow night.Put it on, turn the volume down, and let it go on without you.Mythology & Folklore for Sleep — long, calm retellings of Greek myths, Norse legends, Egyptian tales, Hindu epics, Chinese classics and old folklore from around the world, made for insomnia and the hours when you can't sleep.
