China’s Ministry of Education has just publicized new national standards on the physical health of the country’s students. The new standards, to be implemented this coming September, requires males students above grade six to be tested for pull-ups as a compulsory item. And something new for primary school students, too—they will be tested for rope skipping. Test performances will count as part of their overall school performance assessment. Does it make sense?
