Yoga Nidra to Feel Calm

from Sleepy Cat Meditation · host Sleepy Cat Meditation

A jaw that will not unclench. A chest that feels tight. A mind that races even when you are still. Calm is not the absence of stress. Calm is the presence of safety. And safety is not something you think. Safety is something you feel. This Yoga Nidra practice is designed to help your nervous system remember what calm feels like. The practice guides you into the theta state between waking and sleeping where the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for fight-or-flight, finally steps aside. The parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for rest and digestion, takes over. The heart rate slows. The blood pressure drops. The muscles soften. The mind stops spinning. Calm is not forced. Calm is allowed. No effort is required. No belief is needed. You do not need to control your thoughts. You do not need to breathe in a special pattern. You just need to lie down, close your eyes, and listen. The voice will guide you. The body will follow. The calm will come.Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because calm is not a destination. It is a practice. And this practice is waiting for you.
