You are Made for More, Bethany Scheuermann, Ep. 553
from Take it from the Ironwoman · host Bethany Scheuermann, Susanne Mueller
I am a 46-year-old wife, mother, and runner from South Jersey. I have been happily married to the most loving, supportive man for almost 15 years. I am the proud mother of three children, TJ (22), Alexandra (13), and James (12). I currently run our small family business with my husband in the automotive industry. We are a three-store Napa Auto Parts group, Val-U Auto Parts. One of my passions, and my tried-and-true outlet, is running. Although I am more of a natural ultra-runner, I was able to run a Boston-qualifying time this year at the Delaware Marathon. What this episode covers
Bethany Scheuermann started with half marathons in 2017 🏃♀️, kept asking herself "could I double this?" until the answer was yes, and built her way up to a Boston-qualifying marathon ⭐ and a women's course record at the Mule Skinner 50-miler. After a brutal DNF at a Boston attempt, a friend's advice sent her straight into her first ultra three weeks later 🤯 — and she won it. Her toughest test came at the C&O Canal 100-miler, where she led the women's field from mile 39 to mile 91 🔥 before being passed in the final stretch. That hard-earned experience became a gift when she later paced her friend Julie through the last 30 miles of her own 100-miler 🤝, coaching her through the exact wall Bethany once hit herself — just weeks after losing her younger sister 💔. The pacing run became unexpectedly healing, a chance to step outside her own grief and show up fully for someone else 🌅. Behind it all is a tight family team: a husband who runs the "crew chief" role (Epsom baths and massage guns included 🛁) and kids who know when Mom needs her miles. Now eyeing a 100-miler with 11,000 feet of climbing 🏔️ — and maybe something even longer down the road — Bethany's mantra, gifted to her on a handmade bracelet, says it all: "Made for more." 💪
