Her long term dream was to live in the US, and somehow she always knew she will achieve that. Just at the age of 21, she came to NYC all by herself nobody without anybody and built her own life in a new country. Maria did not had it easy and she spent her 20s in an abusive marriage, both verbally and physically. Something told her and had the feeling that this wasn't her life. She had to get out of the abusive relationship and had to go through the divorce all alone, except this was also her starting point in helping women.
