You Good? // Peacemakers (Part 5)

Have you ever thought that having it all would lead to peace and happiness? Many of us have. We often believe that if certain conditions were met in our lives, all our troubles would vanish. However, the story of Nabal and David in 1 Samuel 25 reveals a different truth. Nabal was a wealthy man with everything one could desire – livestock, property, and a sensible wife, Abigail. However, he was crude and mean in his dealings, lacking peace. In this sermon, we explore God’s plan for true peace through the lens of peacemakers. David, hunted by King Saul, found himself in a unique position. Despite his circumstances, he chose to do good, building friendships and protecting Nabal's property. This story mirrors our lives; God provides us with opportunities to help and protect, fostering peace in our interactions. Yet, even while doing good, challenges arise. David needed food for his men, but Nabal's response was unexpectedly harsh. This illustrates how our positive intentions can be met with negativity. The story of Nabal and David teaches us that having the right response in the face of adversity is essential – a principle embodied in Christ's teachings. We all need to be peacemakers. Just as Abigail turned a potentially destructive situation into one of peace, we can choose to diffuse tensions and build bridges.
