"You Matter" || Titus 2:1-8 || Tim Parlier

Have you ever had someone ask you "what type of church do you go to?" It's hard to know what they're asking, or how to answer. Are they asking what size or what kind of music we play or what people look like? What is a type? Is that a question about denominational affiliation or ethnicity or theological position? In some ways it would have been really nice to be a part of the first century church. There were no denominations yet, no worship wars, no "types"... it was simply The Church that existed in whatever city or town you lived in. But that didn't mean they were free from issues. Far from it. We've already seen Paul instructing Titus on how to help the church from falling into various problem patterns. Yet as we've seen this isn't a corrective letter to Titus, it's also an encouragement and coaching to Titus. So back to that question..."What type of church are we?" Well, amongst other things... we're a church where everyone matters. If there's a simple message in these first 8 verses of Chapter 2 it's... "You Matter!" Old, young, male, female... YOU MATTER. We're the type of church where everyone has a role to play in serving and building one another up in the Gospel.
