You 'need' to know this if you're going to court
from Angie McQuillin Unsilenced · host Unsilenced-Survivor's Journey
Here I explain a distressing reality of going to court after reporting an assault: the courthouse is treated as a neutral environment where prosecution and defence share the same spaces, meaning you as a survivor may repeatedly cross paths with the person who assaulted you in corridors and communal areas (frequently) throughout the trial week. This was unexpected and can trigger intense anxiety and hypervigilance, making the experience feel unsafe even though it is focused on justice. My motivation is to warn others so they can prepare and to call for systemic change that separates survivors from defendants.EnjoyIf any of this resonates - I can be emailed on: [email protected] This is a public episode.
