Few had faith he had the talent and ability to make it and many joked that he would be back within a week with his tail between his legs. Within three weeks though he was man marking the best player on the planet, Zinedine Zidane, in a man of the match performance for Italian football minnows Empoli against the mighty Juventus. It was a tough initiation for the 19-year-old Grella but one that would set him up for a brilliant 15-year career in Italy matching it against some of the best players in the world.
