Despite working on the sequel soon after the release of the original, audiences had to wait 4 years before they found out whether Neo truly is the One. Shooting the Matrix 2 and 3 simultaneously plus a visual effects overhaul caused production to last longer than usual. Thankfully, audiences didn't seem to mind. Opening weekend, the film scored big at the box office, raking in over $90 million. It would go on to make the, as of then, duology a billion-dollar franchise.
