Your Kingdom Come — The Woman at the Well

Children's pastor Ruth Maynard teaches from John 4, where Jesus deliberately travels through Samaria, territory devout Jews crossed a river to avoid, and speaks with a woman carrying every social strike against her: a Samaritan, a woman, and an outcast among her own people at the well at noon. To her, not to the religious elite, Jesus plainly reveals that He is the Messiah and offers living water that becomes a spring welling up to eternal life. She leaves her water jar behind and carries the news back to her town, and many believe. The image of the abandoned jar drives the application: she traded the physical for the spiritual and became the vessel herself. We are all vessels, filled by Christ until we overflow onto those around us. Two questions close it: what are you full of, and who are you overflowing onto.
