Creating a podcast, and therefore having a way for you to keep yourself out in front of people when everybody is withdrawing, could be a very powerful opportunity for your business. You can be a calming voice during recession, depression, a natural disaster, or as we are experiencing now, an international health emergency.

A podcast is an absolutely easy and effective way to control your message to the media. The message that goes out from your organization, to your employees, to your customers, to your potential customers, to your particular industry, and to the media.

Beyond businesses? How about city managers, city planners, human resource departments of organizations, universities, medical facilities, senior care facilities, insurance organizations, large chain restaurants, just to name a few.

If not public podcasts, internal podcasts. Speak to your employees so that they know how to mobilize and how to react and respond. And how your organization is reacting and responding.

Let's take this one step further. You've got to have a plan for communications during any situation. We hope this COVID-19 health emergency is going to be short term. Compared to a recession, it will be short.

And this should get you to thinking, what is your game plan during a recession?

Hopefully this current COVID-19 international health emergency doesn't trigger one. But what is your game plan for internal and external communication during an inevitable recession?

With a podcast, your podcast listeners (your customers!) get to hear your insights on what you're doing. Help them trust your process. "We're here for you." "Here's our game plan. Here's what we're doing." "Again, it's a fluid situation, but this is what we're doing today."

Voices heard on these podcasts can be located anywhere, because of various online meeting tools or online studio access points. This is not something that you have to be in the same room with one another. Your key people can be anywhere in the world, and with today's technology and software, bring them into the "same room" to deliver your messages.

Build a podcast that your listeners rely on, week after week after week. In normal times, it's about your company, about your product, your service, your business culture, how your customers interact with your business.

In troubled times, your audience will continue to listen for information, and to continue for some sense of normalcy in their lives.
