He’s Been There All Along There are often places in our lives that mean more than they seem at the time. For me, it’s an old cedar tree nestled down in the rocks behind our home. It’s stood there longer than I have been alive. Its roots are wrapped tight around the rocky hillside. When I was younger, I would sit against that tree and just talk. I talked about dreams. I talked about fears. I talked about things I didn’t even understand yet. At the time, I thought I was just finding a quiet place to think, write, and dream. But now I know better. It was never just me and the old tree, God was always there with me. Jacob had a moment like that in Scripture. After a long journey, he laid his head down to sleep and dreamed of a ladder reaching into Heaven. When he woke up, he said: Genesis 28:16 “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.” Think about that; “Surely the Lord is in this place… and I knew it not.” How many times could we say the same thing?
