Jesus articulates that treating the Word of God in such a way distorts and places the traditions of men above God's Word. In verses 17-23. Jesus explains the parable to the disciples. Here He clarifies that the thoughts of man and the words and actions that follow the thoughts are what defiles us. External things have no power over our hearts.
