Youth Sermon - Sunday of Orthodoxy - Fr. Micah - March 8, 2020

from Holy Trinity + Holy Cross - Sermons · host Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Today is both the first Sunday of Lent and Youth Sunday here at the Cathedral. On the first Sunday of Lent we commemorate the restoration of icons into the Church following the Iconoclastic heresy. Father Micah shares with the youth and us that when icons are written they begin with darker colors then over time move to lighter ones revealing more clearly the image being depicted. Each of us as Orthodox Christians should also move out of the darkness into the light over time by getting to know Jesus Christ. One way for us to get to know Christ is by seeing icons when we come to Church and being attentive during the services. Icons show us that Christ, the Theotokos and all the saints are present with us always.
