You've Got A Friend In PT: Dr. Rhoden on Pelvic Floor PT For Testicular Pain In Men

from The Armor Men's Health Show · host Dr. Sandeep Mistry and Donna Lee

Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there. In this segment, Donna Lee is joined by NAU Urology Specialists' own Dr. Collette Rhoden. Today, Dr. Rhoden explains what pelvic floor physical therapy is and how it can help both men and women get relief from what's called referred pain. When we repeatedly stress a particular area or muscle group, but we ignore that pain and continue the stressful activity, our bodies refer that pain to another, often nearby area. Improving core strength is particularly important for men and women experiencing weakness or pain in the pelvic region. Male patients are often amazed when they come in complaining of testicle pain, and Dr. Rhoden can reproduce that exact pain by pressing on their abdomen. Common causes of referred testicular pain can include sitting too often, with poor posture, or in an uncomfortable, unsupportive chair. On the other hand, strenuous exercise--especially weightlifting--can create problems when performed without proper technique and breathing. Whether you sit too often or lift too much, a little pelvic floor PT can go a long way toward relieving your pain and regaining the core and pelvic floor strength you need to live an active, pain-free life.
