人习惯于以万物的主人自居，而把万物视为自己认知和利用的对象。海德格尔把这种对待事物的方式称作技术的方式。在这种方式统治下，自然万物都失去了自身的丰富性和本源性，缩减成了某种可以满足人的需要的功能，只剩下了功能化的虚假存在。他呼吁我们摆脱技术方式的统治，与万物平等相处。
