几何（Geometry）英文原意为测地术，当我们去测量空间中两点之间的距离，对于图1左边的平面，我们只需要一把直尺就可以丈量两点间距离。但要测量右边弯曲球面上的距离，直尺就无能为力了。我们需要一把和球面一样弯曲的尺子，这样在不同空间丈量“距离”的尺在几何上就称为“度规”，即度量规则。
