On July 23, 1993 Frank Zappa protoge Steve Vai released "Sex and Religion". The album featured a collection of musicians Vai specifically recruited for this project. Foremost among these recruits was a human cyclone by the name of Devon Townsend. The only album the two would ever appear on together, Sex and Religion persevered through all the turmoil of a band in crisis to earn a place in music history as a bridge from the metal bands of the 1990's to the exploding grunge scene.
