In the dead of night as people sleep that is when the spirits creep as the bell tolls three Dark things take power. We like to call it the supernatural Welcome to the supernatural podcast hour welcome. I'm glad to be here me too. So with us we have doc and we have Merlin Merlin I'll have to tell you we were trying to think of a nickname for him And I was just thinking thinking thinking and I finally texted him and I said hey What do you think of the name Merlin and he said to me my wife said the exact same thing I'm like well, it's a done deal then nailed it if Mallory says that's the deal.
That's the deal. Yep. Malza now now lock it down Happy wife happy life. That's how it goes right?
Exactly so Hi Jack I Am so he doesn't stab me in my sleep and the person that is talking there is Raven. I'm Raven One thing we want to do is welcome our new investigators We have had a couple of openings so just a little shout out to Candace Laurie Sylvia and Kason who just started yesterday actually So he is an investigator in training and we still have a couple of openings if anybody is interested in becoming a member of the apps WISPS team if you are just go to advanced paranormal calm the very top They'll be on the left hand on the right hand side. It'll say contacts click it. It should have a Application and send that in or you could go to WISPS org same instructions slide over to where it says contact fill out the application The reason we need the application is just lists all the information Right in a nice little handy place so that when I schedule things I don't have to text you every time and when you're available I just I know all the stuff The liability for possessions.
Exactly. It's all on you Okay, Chad. How about giving us the business. Okay, given us the business.
Do you remember the referee that said that? He's given him the business that was what he called that was awesome. That was a football game Okay, I don't know that he's given him the business. I don't know if that's an official football penalty, but but he got 15 yards Yeah, I think I understood what he meant.
Okay, so in January the Marcus is warehouse Investigation unfortunately is being canceled They are going to be doing some additional work on that venue and it's not going to be available for us I was super sad I actually I got the text from the our contact who lets us in there And I ignored it for a day or two hoping that it would go away and then the contact emailed me and said did you get that? I was like dang it so I did try folks I tried I tried to make it happen, but we can't make it happen We're hoping that will become available later in the year possibly April. Mayish is kind of the tentative time We can get in there I was looking forward to that one of the week and reschedule and we'll look to see if we can get another investigation of some type In January together for that to replace that but there is no tickets on event right at this point haven't been so there won't be any refunds Cuz nobody paid any money other business in December We have been giving to the Utah Food Bank or encouraging people to get to the Utah Food Bank That's always a great opportunity, but we just kind of wanted to mention that say thank you to our listeners who did participate with that And helped out this is a big time of the year for people and a lot of people are in need of help Especially this year with COVID wiping out a lot of smaller businesses and a lot of layoffs This is a this is a rough year for a lot of people Yeah And if you can't look around in your neighborhood and your friends and see if there's people that are in need of help and there's things that you can do It's a great time of your help them out So as far as residential is it's actually been a little busy We had one we had to reschedule a couple of times and then the client ended up having a medical situation So we will schedule that later But we had to one was in North Utah County and this was a very interesting one in the home There were some some mental health issues that have since been resolved People might be going how do you resolve mental health issues? Well, it was resolved We don't want to give out a lot of information so we will just leave it at that but some of the things that were happening There was a missing bracelet Give me an example of how the bracelet was missing because that was phenomenal.
Yep They're just going there she they had a little family get together The bracelet just kind of popped off her hand and it was one that had meaning to her it wasn't just you know a random bracelet had some meaning So they're looking for it and she said there was about 13 people there and looking looking looking They couldn't find the bracelet anywhere They'd kind of been horsing around a little bit and in the same room They hadn't like left from the time that it had been when I say lost or came off of her wrist Right because a necklace or a bracelet breaks And it's just gonna kind of you know fall on the ground or maybe get slinging off into a corner They looked everywhere and finally after about 10 minutes or so of looking they gave up They thought you know it'll turn up and as they're standing there They said it literally just kind of materialized in the middle of the room and spun around and dropped on the floor And they said the whole room 13 people were looking at it going Did you see that and I was like I want to see it that would be wild to see This family seemed like a very credible family You know you get someone it's like this seemed like a very credible family and there were like four witnesses that were at that They were there and talked about it Yeah They also said they had they had a little dog a little puppy and he would stand at the top of their stairs and bark down the stairs And he said well puppies could have him say bark at everything But he would tuck his little tail between his legs and and kind of run off and then he'd peer around the corner I mean it was as though He actually could see something and they would go down there would be nothing there You know go down to the basement and she said nothing But they did have the fields when they went down Yes, nobody likes the basement in my history of anything anytime anywhere Nobody likes their basement. I've never heard anyone say my basement's awesome I'd love to spend lots of time to my favorite place. How about you more than you love basements? I don't like basements actually they just another room.
Yeah for me I used to spend some time with the gradient and her basement was some other rooms were fine And some other rooms are super creepy if we could get past the creepy room to get into the good room the good room was fine So I think it just kind of depends on what's going on in your basement Her other thing and this I thought this was very interesting too is one of the daughters She was a younger teen she said so in Utah we had an earthquake several months ago back in April March or April right around COVID hit she said it was it was a pretty big one in a pretty populated area because in Utah We do have a lot of little earthquakes sometimes out in the boonies because most of our population is in a pretty small concentrated area but this one was a fairly big one and She said that ten minutes before the earthquake hit she was early in the morning about seven in the morning or so She was awake and she saw a man in her room and there are no men in this home and it scared her obviously When we did the investigation she oh I guess the other thing they just saw a lot of shadow figures You know just little people out of the corner their eyes and so that's the that's the stuff that they had going on We did some EVP sessions we took some photos and videos and I this one we did very very recently So I had time to review very many of them you set up your laser grid We said it in the laser grid we did get one kind of suspicious picture in the laser grid I have to look at it some of the anomalies there I think her reflections, but there's a couple of anomalies that I can't explain so well we'll get on that but through Just all the investigations that we did we determined that the the male spirit in the daughter's room was a protector Spirit trying to warn her that that earthquake was coming and then he kind of hangs around the house and protects everybody But he's more protective of her than the others yes, and we weren't quite able to determine why if I remember correctly and then In the basement and what was scaring the puppy was a type three spirit No, I think they're back a type two spirit that was being controlled by a type three and the type two was actually sent there The type three was aware of the vulnerabilities going on in the home and thought this is a family We can target and you know pick away at those vulnerabilities and hopefully ultimately drag them down to a very dark place and So we sent him packing But that was a that was all the investigations we do really are great I haven't had one that just really sucked but this one when we got done It was amazing how much time had gone by because it didn't seem like that long and and you know we were there for about Two and a half hours We were there for two and a half hours It shocked me because it was I didn't seem like that no and then it was midweek And I thought you know we don't want to keep kids up late for school and I thought we'll be here for an hour Hour and a half because we had a start a little later than the normal and as we were driving home I was like holy cow it's 11 o'clock, but sorry kids. Yeah, it's pretty late for a kid going to school But gotta do what you gotta do they were they were a little older you know early to mid teens So they were probably like yes, but the teachers hated us because they're probably grabbing the next day So the last one that we did was in South. Oh you missed an important one I did about the middle daughter and the name of her spirit guide Oh, so the name of her spirit guide was her mother actually called the name beforehand or had it in mind Yes, and it was actually the name of her you know how kids have imaginary friends. Mm-hmm.
It was her imaginary friend So was it an imaginary friend or could she see her spirit guide when she was little? Interesting and then with the with the bracelet we determined that the bracelet was Someone in the family who had passed I was trying to get their attention and let them know that that he was okay And he wasn't he was no longer in home that spirit So the one in in South Utah County somewhere probably me But somewhere there's a little communication breakdown when we were setting this up and we went thinking it was just a cleansing We thought that we were going to a home that some people had just moved into and they wanted to just cleanse, you know Just to have a nice, you know new start to the song and get rid of the old energy and just have a start fresh start But when we got there I thought this doesn't look like people just moved in and so we asked and they'd actually been there for about five years And so I said well have you had any activity and oh yes activity and it was dark and kind of oppressive and everyone felt doom and gloom and and I thought I was not mentally prepared to do this But you have to get mentally prepared fairly quickly So we got mentally prepared quickly one of the adults in the home was under a lot of stress COVID related with a with a job not with illness and that it had actually resolved but some of the dark and the heavy feeling was still there and Again, it was negative entities that were there that were working on those vulnerabilities And so if I'm gonna give you you know if you're listening Dark entities dark spirits will look for those vulnerabilities and they will work on them And they might sit and wait they've got all the time in the world But when they see that opportunity they'll wake up, you know, they'll perk up and they will work on us So that's one thing you always want to do if you don't want those negative entities in your home Try to relieve yourself of the stress try to if there's anything that we can chew, you know try to Push those aside and by weakening it could be things like yeah porn addiction or substance abuse Drop loss addiction job loss even things like just having very heavy heavy severe unforgiving feelings towards someone can make you vulnerable for these So tip of the day be happy be happy be happy. Sorry and meditate. Yes.
Yes, cuz that's gonna bring in the good vibes Yep, thank you Merlin. We go into the main topic. Yes. So our main topic today is you all and Merlin is an expert on you I wouldn't say expert, but well, it's what we do practice compared to the rest of us here.
You're an expert. I see Well, that's not okay All right, well you'll when does you'll start? I realize this podcast is going to be broadcast a little bit after you'll actually Give us a little bit of the time frames and how you'll work and all that It's the winter solstice so the 21st of December will be you'll Traditionally when it starts a lot of cultures either leave it just 24 hours only to on the solstice some cultures do it from the 21st to January So it's like this whole like season. Yeah, traditionally it's on the shortest day of a year because it is Signifying you know, it's hard again signifying the birth the death of the god and the rebirth of the Sun God You know, and that's kind of like Christmas picked that time frame for the birth of Christ because the son of God is born You know, there's a lot of similarities there and those you know a lot of Christian traditions and stuff for Christmas is actually rooted Deeply in you'll which came rooted from Saturnalia from the Romans So I mean, it's down long time and see the interesting thing is I always thought that you all was just another name for Christmas You know, Merry Christmas.
Happy holidays. Happy you'll and so when I when I really started researching this I thought whoa, it's like totally different It's like all pagan it is all pagan Perfect, you know, I don't care because as long as I get presents. I'm happy right like if you want to celebrate true Christmas You won't have a tree you won't have you know, read you'll have a donkey in flish and flatbread because that's That was what was there when when Christ was born. They didn't have Christmas trees and they didn't have a holly mary's and they didn't have any When I was living in Russia, you know, Christmas was a day you went to church I was pretty much it to go church on to certain Christmas and for a lot of people that was enough Wasn't a whole lot of presents there wasn't you know, Christmas trees and they do have another they have a new year that they celebrate in a similar fashion With Christmas trees and presents and whatnot, but the holiday Christmas itself it is you go to church and that's pretty much it interesting I need presents.
Just so you know, no presents. This is I'm sounded very materialistic tonight. I need the gifts No, I could be fine without the gifts. Just don't tell chat that So yeah, like it's just it's we we celebrate it in our house But we also celebrate Christmas in our house because we're kind of a mix we do at least for us We do at least one you'll gift especially for our daughter and then we should the rest for actual Christmas So, you know, there's a lot of different traditions that Christmas took from you'll I guess other Christmas tree the you'll log the presents You'll actually was started out in Germany believe it or not the Germans started celebrating you'll but other cultures like England and Something that celebrated something very similar to you all that they just kind of Unrelated all into one thing now when I was reading that said the Germanic people started doing this in the fourth century Is that one you would say originated?
I mean did it start before that or is that one that started? It did start before that it started you all around that time I guess it before that was Saturnalia in Rome like ancient role. Yeah, right and it seems like a lot I mean pretty much everything is based on the seasons, right? And this is the winter solstice the shortest time of the year and people have been Sun worshiping I guess you could say for basically since the beginning of time since religion has been a thing And so right this is marking that rebirth of the Sun God days are getting longer That is something that mankind has noted for eons and has celebrated It is and you know, it's actually one of the fire festivals It's obviously not like melton where you're out in the forest and bonfires are more in your home But you do celebrate with the fire with the you'll log the ashes used for many different things from fertility to protection to You know just ambulance and charm so it's one of the fire festivals that are celebrated throughout the year I did a little research on the you'll log and some of the preparation or there are things that you're aware of that you do special for a You a lot or or do you do that with your practices?
We want to we just have a fireplace We are in the area where we can do so. Yes It's typically normally just pure is an oak log that is Supposed to burn for extra time depending on how long you would like to practice that some people did it for 12 hours Some people did it for a lot longer some people kept the fire going for a week So it's subjective however, it is bad omen if you let the fire go out The only way to have a good way is if you snuff that fire yourself, you know who came up with that bad omen was a woman It's cold when I get cold I go down and turn the heat up I'm like it's freezing in the south and just like it's 70 degrees and I'm like 70 degrees is cold when it's 28 degrees outside A woman came up with that it's possible and especially the one where you don't snuff it for like a week Is that what you're saying? Yeah, yeah more than like yeah, that sounds got us back from back out That's right. It's a way to kind of coax this on is that correct or a way of kind of do encourage this lengthening of days?
It's light. It's fire, right? It's warmth, you know in fire festivals is the time for celebration and warm and you really can't do that when it's 12 degrees outside. I mean you can, you'll just be cold.
Yeah, hence hence the bad omen. Yeah, see? See how it all connects together doesn't make sense. It was also a bad omen to blow out the yule candle You had to actually snuff it out with tongs or your fingers Could you lick your fingers first or did you have to be tough and just tough it out?
Well, I always lick my fingers. That would hurt otherwise. It would burn. Then you have to get a sock.
That's right I may only lick my fingers after eating chicken I'm glad to read this. Yeah, maybe. All right, three dozen gos too. I saw interesting Stuff about the preparation of the yule log and that some people will will take different color ribbons, golds and reds and whites and kind of weave them together and Decorate it up and then put greenery some evergreens and mistletoe and different things on it It didn't sound like it's a set prescribed thing But it's kind of something that people just want to do or how they want to do it There's not like it has to be done exactly this way, but all right Yeah, I thought that was interesting and then a lot of times they'll use that as a centerpiece at their feasts before the actual yule burning of the log And I thought that was interesting because I I've had you know I've known of you logs and I remember when I was a little we had a little yule log Decoration on our on our table that my mother had and it was you know a small all three inch diameter log It was maybe 12 inches long and and decorated up and I do remember that yeah, maybe my mom was a witch I didn't know that I don't think so but but no the whole idea of a you will you know of celebrating you only you The other thing that I thought it was interesting about it was people would write little notes and put them in and tuck them in among the The ribbons of their their wishes and the things that they want for the upcoming year and they put it in and it's a little bit Like we talked about before the idea of writing down your goals and making them more concrete But but then putting them in the uo log and then it's burned as part of the celebration and that goes up to you know With the smoke and you can probably correct me if I've got that wrong No, no, that's like like oh, you know Which kind of stuff if you write down something on paper or you know conjure spell and then you burn it you're actually casting it out to the Fire and air into existence and it'll be a universal so it projects it out so there's a voking and invoking is that correct?
Yes, okay invoking is something you bring in evoking use more long lines of casting it out So that would be evoking that out out into the into the ether I don't know what the word is It depends on the intent because to invoke it is like okay. This is where I want to summon to me So you are invoking something to attract to you, okay? Yeah, no in a sense there's two different things And I thought that was interesting both you know with the weekend and witchcraft and the idea of just writing down your desires writing down What you want Raven did a class with your physical training stuff and you had your what was it the wishboard or something like that? Yeah, they had us do it I think she called it a dream board if we put our dreams on there The instructor of the class said you know the purpose of this kind of the thought process behind it is if you can visualize things and make Them more concrete things will actually happen as opposed to just the thought rattling around in your head and isn't that Manatee is a lot of attraction.
That's what that is if you will something enough normally it will manifest to you And everything has come true except for owning a Crofton Scotland. That's that hasn't come about yet Still working on that one. Yeah, that little piece of property in Scotland. Did you buy a one by a one foot Santa Claus brought me?
So technically I was brought me a one foot square piece of land in Scotland. So y'all have to address me as Lady Raven now Lady Raven yes, that's my name now I kind of prefer your highness, but you know whatever bad works that works But no wishes a lot of people do wish for me you'll like in doing so they actually have every single person the family has got to touch it To cast out their wish we'd be written down or just you know like you don't have a birthday cake And then I saw a read some some information about that they'll go around and like you say invoke or do their wishes not Not vocally in a permanent residence, but they went like clockwise first and then they would come back counterclockwise Is that something in the way that you do that? No, my self. No, I've not heard of that But I can't seem surprised everything is in circles life is a circle the seasons of the circle like to to start a spell You cast a circle with it be a day or not turtle so circles.
It doesn't surprise me You know you just bought up circles. I was reading about different symbols of you all the reef being a big one which is Chris miss reef slash you will read and then it was a it was a symbol of you know completion in the beginning of another cycle Kind of rebirth symbol once again. Hey, but yeah, but Raven but some square reefs. We've got some square reefs downstairs I got nothing for you.
I know circles guys circles. You broke the matrix. Hey Anything else you guys are one object here so when I was doing my research you know talked about the you'll log and I thought okay I've heard about that heard of you all but then I read about things like a you'll go to and you will bore and I just tell you I've been missing out What what is about the you'll go to a goat and has horns a boar has tests or horns the horn to God Typically is celebrated for till this time of year as well. Yes fertility indicating the Christmas tree was a symbolic of the horn gods right penis Which is why you go balls on it to decorate and it reverse with mother earth to bring back the Sun.
Gotta So every time people put Christmas balls on their tree they can think about a phallic symbol exactly But people don't people don't realize it. I actually I actually worked with a guy Whose family would not let him have a Christmas tree because of the way he wanted to decorate it was less than appropriate It was appropriate, but it was not for the family. Maybe not socially acceptable. It wouldn't have it wouldn't have been in a Disney film Maybe suddenly in a Disney film I mean the cover of that movie So one thing I found interesting is I was reading a lot about this You'll like I said I always thought it was just another word for Christmas, which I have learned that it is not It's you know about the same time, but they're different, but you all is celebrated in heathenry, which sounds bad But he then I mean you use the phrase oh you're such a heathen But it's not necessarily a bad thing and neo-paganism and even levayan Satanists which we discussed not too long about six months ago on our podcast And I show this one that one.
Yeah, and they use it. They don't want to celebrate Christmas And so they celebrate you which you only say it's essentially the same thing It's you know, there's so intertwined that they're essentially the same right almost every Christmas symbol is a you'll symbol wreaths Christmas trees Well, all that stuff the colors the colors the reds the silvers the golds the and I love yeah I love looking at you know and seeing just all the different cultures and how they they've got the same Symbolisms in there and just how they adapted to their culture. So for example In the egypt's in each of the Egyptians in Egypt. Yes.
See we're alone Is it you're not one English is hard holy cow in the Egyptian culture They would do the return of the Sun God Ra and thank him for warming their crops because they were so agriculturally In there there were they did a lot of candles. They did bonfires You know the Romans would get involved in debauchery imagine that Romans being debaucherist people But they would you know They were into lighting the candles and lighting the oils and their lamps and just depending on where you are just seeing all the symbols of light Celebrating the return of the Sun and just seeing how that is in all the different cultures. I thought was interesting Yeah, it's very Sun focused and one of the things that I noticed too is I was trying to figure out elves played into this because you do hear a lot about elves One of the things I read was that the spirits that created the Sun inhabited the realm of the elves and by including elves in the U.S. celebration it would help assure the coercion of the Sun to return Which I thought was quite interesting and you know we talk about the elf on the shelf Don't don or Santa's elves.
This is how elves got incorporated incorporated into this whole Christmas tradition I did that's actually something I did not know. Well, no, you did. Thanks. No problem.
So what's what's the guys Herbie? Is that the health on her me her me her me the elf that wants to be a dentist? Herbie or her me or my god or buddy the elf But the elf want to be a dentist though, but yeah, so that's that's where elves got thrown into this whole Christmas tradition Because they believe that the elves could help coerce the Sun got to return and you guys mentioned briefly about the bore the you'll bore Go into that a little bit. I find that fascinating.
I don't know what more to say other thing The floor but it was based off the sacrifice but yeah, we really represented the horn god two year point Merlin This is something that I was reading up on I have Nordic ancestry Swedish ancestry and every year we have a Christmas ham And I thought that was interesting I started reading into this that the bore was sacrificed to the goddess Freya and they would eat the bore and this is how a Christmas ham Became incorporated into you know one of the foods that we eat around Christmas time And that's something I just learned this year and I've been eating Christmas ham for decades So just a little turkey and get with your ham. Yeah, it's true. Yeah, pretty much. That's what Thanksgiving guys That is a turkey Thanksgiving and what about what about prime rib prime rib baller?
I'm gonna say let's go with that For kind of the same reason the sacrifice there's a song that I was actually listening to called clouds to share wassel It's a Christmas song. I'm weird and I like Victorian air Christmas songs And Blasci sure wassel has nothing to do with Christmas really it's all about like good tidings and whatnot and wassling Which is not really a Christian thing, but they talk about the beef as well being you know making sure that there's beef for the master Indeed for themselves. It was a sacrificial offering wassling itself is an interesting practice that I learned a bit about we like drinking Wassel Christmas time your grandmother was kind of the wassel queen wassel queen and wasseling is a tradition It goes back This were caroling also kind of comes from this idea of wassling but wassling in kind of Celtic tradition is they would take mold cider Right and they would go and basically bless the trees that they would have a fruitful year And so they would go and sing songs and go into these groves and bless the trees for a fruitful year because it was start of a year and sing And that's where a lot of the Christmas caroling and the term tradition arrived Yeah, the term wassel me is from the word the old English word waslile which means be well Yeah, good house. There you go.
It's also a jolt drink. Yeah, absolutely I'm gonna say bye by origin, right? It's a you will drink Pretty much it so one of the last things that I found super interesting on the last thing But last thing that I wrote down on this particular page of notes says that in wick and paganism The Celtic legend was that you know with with the dark and the light There was a battle between the oak king and the holly king and oak represents the light of the new year And he tries to observe you serve the old holly king who symbolizes the darkness And there's some wick and rituals that will actually Reenact this battle as part of their yule festivities and you know, holly is used a lot in Christmas You know the holly berries and I mean, there's a song I'm seeing the song for you about holly berries and this will tell you about my little thing as you've heard a few times I've tried little bits and it's it goes very poorly But just even holly is very much a yule tradition that has been brought into an entwined with Christmas So I've talked with doc a little bit and Raven has about light and dark and Merlin You've probably got some thoughts on this too But the idea of darkness and light and that darkness is not necessarily evil No, and darkness is not Can you guys go into that a little bit because I find that very interesting and I think that that ties in directly with what's happening with You will in this time of the year. Yeah, doc you want to start going to well dark is dark and light is light and really It's how they're applied.
I think that has significance it comes back to that idea of intention, right? Yes, and in some ways they're intimate lovers You don't have dark without light and you don't have like without dark they need each other They're dependent on each other and as we go through these cycles one at certain point in time It's certain points in time one will have more power than the other That's what this whole seasonal cycles about is that the dark rules for a period of time than the light rules for a period of time And it's at these points where things are in balance or transitioning that we tend to celebrate right? I have to send out little inspirational texts to certain people for different reasons during the week And there was one that I found recently that said sometimes you feel like you're in a dark place And that's not necessarily bad the way the memes read was Maybe your dark place means you've just been planted and you just need to grow so that's one example because I can hear people right now going How is darkness not bad? It's it's not necessary.
Well one of the things that we were talking about as well is if you People generally not people but from an archetypal symbol standpoint Masculine energies are generally attributed to spiritual things and feminine energies are attributed to physical things This is why we use terms like heavenly father or mother earth and all things are born in darkness This was the whole point of even you know You'll is that the rebirth of the Sun God happens at the darkest point of the year the universe was created in darkness We're born in the womb plants come from seeds, you know birds come from eggs They all come from places of darkness doesn't dark is not evil dark is where creation begins Matrix for creation to happen yeah And I think in the popular you know culture and a lot of people make an assumption that just because something is dark It's evil and and I think that's something that that people need to realize is not necessarily true The dark is not evil evil evil right and you can have someone that seems bright and charismatic and light and happy and be the most wicked entity There is true absolutely so evil is evil dark is not evil dark is dark light is light It's how it is implies the intent that makes this is very true. I don't like Balance like you said earlier. That's the key I'm one who loves to embrace the darkness like even just not necessarily like on an evil broad sport But like the dark and I oh my gosh, it's the best. I love the night the energy is different It's more powerful for spells like embrace the dark.
It's not a bad thing It's it's a great if you just clear your mind and just open up It just you'll feel the difference stand there with you I I think my favorite part of the day is just the evening when the sun starts to go down. It's quieter It seems calmer to me everything seems more relaxed right the dark is the resting place and I I don't consider myself evil I'm not perfect but and and Merlin. I've known you for quite some time and I would never in a million years consider you an evil person I'm curious last my life You mentioned you mentioned balance You know one of the one of the other symbols of yule is mistletoe Then one of the most intriguing things about mistletoe that I found out is that it's a parasitic plant right it grows on something It doesn't sprout from the ground and so it's really poisonous to and it is very poisonous But the thing about mistletoe is because it grows on trees. It's a parasitic plant.
It doesn't come from the earth It is suspended between heaven and earth. It's suspended between two worlds and that's where they attributed They gave mistletoe magical properties The properties to mistletoe and this is about that union of you can call the divine masculine divine feminine or heaven and earth or the light in the dark And it's where those two things come together It ends up becoming a symbol once again of union and growth and creation and fertility and this can kill you and it can kill you and this is Why the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe became a thing and it can kill you and actually when Missile to was harvested especially from an oak tree. They used a gold sith sickle. It was a golden sickle that used to harvest it And the funny thing is a lot of Christians religions banned mistletoe for any church decor And there's a lot of them that still follow that ban.
No, that's interesting Well, because it may be it's to you know, maybe the sexual energies of mistletoe are just way too People are kissing to you know, it's way too potent Yeah, I heard also that they would use the gold sickle or site to to cut down the mistletoe And if it happened to fall to the ground all of its energy would be absorbed into the earth and it would lose its potency It would actually and yeah, and you can only harvest it on the sixth day of the moon I did not know so six day of the moon is that the sixth day after a full moon six days before how does that work? So the new moon is the beginning so six days after your new moon is when you harvest your mistletoe Um and for all you hunters out there if you carry a branch of mistletoe while hunting It will bring good fortune good luck and attract animals to you for a better harvest I have I have hunting friends. I'm trying to get doctor. He just won't do it.
It's like he's busy I went out on a deer hunt this year, but did you go with Merlin? I did not go with my wife I went with my wife. She was the one with the tag No one fortunately see because you didn't go with my life You didn't have to have a dam mistletoe in my pocket. Probably would help.
There you go You're wife you could have snooched under your wife. That's right. Yeah, but you mean I would have had an excuse to kiss. There you go I found you all very interesting Yeah, I thought it was a really interesting topic.
I did not know that and and I looked at it's like well This is Christmas and it's like no Christmas is you Is a better is a better description of that right? It was it was this whole idea of hey We have this you know ancient festival where we celebrate the birth of the sun god and christians were like yeah the sun Great the son of god. That's right. Same thing right light of the world.
Let's go with it So Merlin can correct me if I'm wrong because you know that everything you find online is absolutely correct Google is fat. Yeah, so yeah, Google according to online in Norway king hacon I don't understand that right hacon hacon who ruled from 934 to 961 Is the is the guy who's kind of credited with rescheduling you all to have it coincide with the christian christmas Some of the things that he came up were sacrifices being made at the temple bringing food and ale for a feast And I kind of get the impression that the sacrificing animals may have come a little earlier But he brought that in vessels that would hold blood and animals and twigs and they would use it to spread over the walls Which sounds like something biblical to me the altars of the temple that they had You know and even the men present and they had toasts that were meant to be drunk I actually do not know so I would have to look into that Yeah, so that's just that's one of the little tidbits I unearthed like I said whether or not it's a thing is debatable But it sounds cool. Well, I am very grateful for you all because I really like christmas It is maladies most of the year strong work Halloween's probably mine And that's her second Christmas slash you will is a very very very very very second close Along the whole kind of celebration. We've got a close friend who's jewish and her favorite holiday is actually christmas Um, you know, they're not celebrating necessarily the rebirth of the son of god and and jesus is a redeemer But uh, they love the festival and they they relish in the They like the feasts and the gift giving and the feeling of you know, peace on earth good will towards man And I thought that was kind of interesting as I was as I watched some youtube videos where they talked about Some of the the wick and witches and the celebrations that they do and they were saying go out and celebrate with the community And even the christian community go out and do do do those things enjoy the christmas festivals and the lights and the things because it's It's it's a big part from what they were describing of of their culture of the of the wickin community to be very community-minded and be very involved It's funny.
You brought up judy as an you know, hanakos started on December 10th I'm not jewish, but my kids like to play dreidel and we make latkes and talk about them in the morning Adically, uh, these ones are made out of wood, but you know they spin better that way Um, but we've tried to we try to incorporate some of these hanakah traditions as well But hanakah is also the festival of light. I mean, that's what it's about I mean, obviously the macadese taking back the temple and or you know and being able to dedicate it By burning their oil for a period of time eight days total But it's a celebration of light that's in fact that was the holiday in which christ made the statement I am the light of the world and it has a lot more significance when you understand context But it all ties back to light. This is christianity, judyism, paganism this time of year Those the rebirth of the light is all about the light about the light coming back from basically the dead being reborn, right? Interesting stuff and I think the idea of being able to understand other people's cultures and celebrations, you know, I've I've I've showed chinese new years.
Yes, let's go Hell yeah, we chinese food, right? Well, and that's exactly it my kids were like dude. Are we doing latkes? We playing dreidel and I'm like sure let's do it You know, my kids actually came to remind me that it was hanakah We talk o's baby.
It's all right to embrace other people and other cultures. It's okay to celebrate with others and you know In respect with respect don't appropriate because that would be bad. I guess but but celebrate you can celebrate but you can celebrate celebrate guys Yes, because culture I love other cultures. They're it's so fascinating to learn other people's traditions Although I think christmas may have appropriated you You know, but it's something to me.
You'll is something that And again Merlin you can correct me if I'm wrong. There are cultures that still Celebrate that but it's interesting because it's such an old ancient ritual and celebration just to have it incorporated in christmas It's like it hasn't died it might not be in its pure form But it's still around and everybody is celebrating it in some forms whether they realize it or not Well, believe it or not almost every cell holiday that we celebrate is Traditionally based off of paganism. I mean groundhog is days either a pagan celebration Right the problem is these pagans were the worst record keepers and the history of mankind and so even though we have all these celebrations We still know very little about how they went about celebrating right So we just make it on so well and the problem is is a lot of them Didn't keep record because they were executed they were killed for witchcraft or burnt to the stake because they're not a time frame You know the hammer the witches was being witches was was allowed and people bounty hunters were allowed to just go kill And get a bounty on a witch and so a lot of the tales believe it or not was written in cookbooks Written in journals some in a secret language that only they could decipher Is like it was like a hidden message right in plain sight and so the text are there We just don't want to find it and a lot of it was an oral tradition as well, right? Because they want to be persecuted for having written statements about the way that they Exactly.
Yeah, so it was very well hidden Well, and the sad thing is is a large part of why they were persecuted and killed is because back then if you didn't understand something It was scary and you just wouldn't get rid of it rather than try to understand it or sit down How does that talk tell us about why you think these things like I think that sound? Yeah, and a lot of it was driven by the church like the kings were like oh no you will convert or you will die Oh, you're a pagan you're a heaving you will die like and so a lot of it went into Shrouding secrecy in the night and that's where really going to the night and the shadows came about because couldn't do it during the day Yeah, the safe place the dark is safe people Like this has been a great topic and I've really enjoyed it. I think I've learned a lot from from studying that We probably ought to move on to our next one. We're gonna be on where we going So we have our paranormal bucket list and Merlin.
I think we had you scheduled for telling us what your bucket list item is Oh, man. That's that's a big list I'm gonna say something later. Oh, I know one big guy wanted to start with just one and Uh, it's got to be Dracula's castle My brother has been there he went to Romania on his mission and he's been there and he sucks because I want to go And I want to like spend the night there so it was able to go in with it was able to go visit it So I know that you he went long before covid was a thing in existence Um, and yeah, he got it towards through it and he said it was the creepiest place he's ever been Oh, I bet I've seen some documentaries on it, but yeah, I would have to add to my book I watched that documentary been helping That's not documentary Those vampire girls, okay If you go there, they're not gonna be there the castle if you go there was a fucking stonzo monster in there too somewhere there Yeah, it's awesome. It was a great documentary.

I was going to read in the podcast like real life angel encounters and I forgot Sorry, sorry, sorry folks. So but you're still gonna get them. You'll have to keep listening to hear the other two There's a man named dean s then he experienced some pain when he was going through a divorce He was about 26 years old and just if you've gone through a divorce whether you instigated or not It's still painful. It's painful no matter what you do and the thought of being apart from his two young daughters was just more than he could bear And he was really having a tough time understandably so on one night. It was it was a dark and stormy night It was a dark and stormy night. Um, he actually got some renewed hopes.
So there you go. So he darkness is not always bad So at the time he was working as a derrickman on a on a drill rig He was having some serious thoughts of suicide because there he is He's on 120 foot derrick looking down in the ocean. He's thinking this will be really easy You know just step off boom all this pain is gone And i'm just gonna read a quote that he said he says my family and I have strong beliefs in Jesus But it was not hard to contemplate suicide It was in the worst thunderstorm i'd ever seen which brings in the dark and stormy night I climbed the derrick to take my position to pull pipe out of the hole. We were drilling His co-workers had told him don't go up there You know, it's too dangerous We'd rather have some downtime than risk someone's life and dean thought Ooh, this is a perfect time to do this and he kind of continued he said lightning flashed all around me thunder boomed I cried to god to take me if I couldn't have my family.
I didn't want to live but I didn't want to take my own life and suicide Oh, he said I couldn't take my own life and suicide. God spared me I don't know how I survived that night, but I did fast forward a couple weeks later He bought a small bible and he traveled to the peace river hills And that's where his family had lived for quite some time And he sat down on one of the hills and he started to read and he said he had such a warm feeling enter into me I'm just gonna read what he said I had such a warm feeling entering to me as the sun parted through the clouds and shown on me It was raining all around me, but I was dry and warm in my small spot on top of that hill For him He just really felt he says that that wasn't just oh the sun came out and I felt better He says it just came at such a moment that it only could have been an angelic moment And he says that those moments that moment changed his life for the better Um, shortly after that the minute's new wife, you know, they fell in love got married They started a family together that which includes his two daughters from his first marriage And that's going really well as far as being with his his children from his first marriage And he said thank you lord jesus and the angels you said that day to touch my soul So there is angel story number one And angel story two and three around in the jump drawer and we'll get to them sometime.
