התוכן ערב חנוכה שייך במיוחד לחנוכה: אע"פ שבכל ערב שבת וחג ישנו הדין ד"תוספת שבת" וכיו"ב אבל רק כ"הוספה" לעיקר, משא"כ בחנוכה, הנה זמן הדלקת נר הא' (ועד"ז בכל יום) דחנוכה, לכתחילה הוא "משתשקע החמה"‏ – ‏בערב חנוכה לפני צאת הכוכבים!
