To teach you that just as sacrifices bring atonement, so the death of tzaddikim secures atonement.” (1) The reason the death of the righteous is compared to the atonement of the parah adumah, and not to korbanos in general, is because like the death of tzaddikim, the parah adumah atones even for impurity from death. (And just as the atonement through korbanos depends on teshuvah, so does the atonement brought about by the death of tzaddikim.)
