יזהר כהן החל את דרכו המוסיקלית כבר בגיל 5. הוציא אלבום ראשון בשנת 1976, וב-1978 זכה באירוויזיון עם השיר "אבניבי". בשנת 1982 שוב הופיע באירוויזיון וזכה במקום החמישי עם השיר "עולה עולה". ב-1973 השתתף בפסטיבל הזמר המזרחי, שם שר את השיר "ירושלים האחרת", שיר אשר נכנס לאלבומו הראשון.
