In Abschnitt 5 des Diamant-Sūtras geht es darum, dass die wahre Natur des Tathāgata nicht durch äußere Zeichen oder Merkmale erfasst werden kann. Sie sind nur Oberfläche, die eigentliche Wirklichkeit liegt in der Zeichenlosigkeit. Ähnlich wie bei einer Rose, die nur im Kontext aller Nicht-Rose-Elemente wirklich verstanden werden kann, ist auch der Mensch nur vollständig zu sehen, wenn man seine Hintergründe, Geschichte und Beziehungen berücksichtigt. Das Festhalten an Zeichen führt zur Täuschung, während Einsicht und Verständnis für den Kontext die Wahrnehmung vertiefen. So erklärt der Buddha in Kapitel 25 des Diamant-Sūtras, dass es niemanden zu erlösen gibt, da keine getrennten Wesen existieren, die zu retten wären. Jeder Mensch ist sowohl gewöhnlich als auch Buddha, da alles aus den gleichen Elementen besteht und miteinander verbunden ist – als Teil des großen Gewebes. Diese organische Liebe im Alltag zu verwirklichen, bedeutet, im anderen sich selbst zu erkennen und die Dualität aufzulösen. Probleme, Leid und Fehler werden dann nicht mehr isoliert betrachtet, sondern als Teil eines größeren Zusammenhangs, der sowohl Schatten als auch Licht umfasst. Die Praxis im Alltag besteht also darin, Einsicht, Verbundenheit und Mitgefühl zu kultivieren, um die Illusion von Trennung und Selbst zu überwinden.
