Zafira's Story

Zafira is 24 and lives in Birmingham Yardley, one of the most deprived constituencies in England. She wanted to train as a nurse to serve her community's healthcare needs, but found herself blocked by a system that treats workforce investment as a burden rather than a necessity. This episode explores how HM Treasury's spending constraints on Health Education England have created artificial limits on NHS training places across the West Midlands, leaving willing candidates unable to access the preparation they need while hospital wards remain understaffed.
