Zakariyya Abdul Rahman is the founder & president of the Nicetown CDC (Community Development Corporation), an organization whose mission is to dynamically improve the quality of life in Nicetown and surrounding communities, by establishing sustainable community economic development. Under Zakariyya’s leadership, the NTCDC has emerged as one of the most successful CDCs in Philadelphia. This includes their award-winning mixed-use developments Nicetown Court I & II, ($35 million) adjacent to the historic Wayne Junction train station. Thursday, August 6th @ 11:00 am, the city of Philadelphia 8th District Councilmember Cindy Bass, PA State Senator Sharif Street, PA State Representative Darisha Parker and Capital Improvement Officials will join Nicetown Community Development Corporate (CDC) leadership team and the community for an official ribbon cutting of Nicetown Amphitheatre Sound Stage, a community project that was in the spanned over 10 years for completion. The renovated Nicetown Sound Stage will honor LGP Qua, the late Philadelphia rapper and community activist known as the “Voice of the Youth” with the official renaming of the stage. Born Qidere Johnson and raised in North Philadelphia, LGP Qua spoke out against gun violence, gained attention through viral hip-hop freestyles about inner-city challenges, and partnered with Puma and Foot Locker to donate shoes to local students. Additionally, Nicetown CDC will officially announce the details of the 24th Annual “Give Back Community Outdoor Festival and Concert”, featuring Legendary Funk Band Group HEATWAVE. The festival is a celebration of economic development, arts, and culture in the Nicetown community. Zakariyyah joined the show to talk about Nicetown CDC’s event tomorrow, honoring the late rapper LGP Qua, and to talk about their community give back concert.
