Summer Horror Marathon Part 3 – Award-Winning Japanese Horror Debut Missing Child Video Tape: Is the Mountain a God… or a Demon?

Hey there, it’s your host Mako. This time I watched Missing Child Videotape. Totally got sucked in just by the Amazon Prime thumbnail. I clicked. I watched. And yeah—it was a blast. But here’s the thing: as much fun as I had, part of me couldn’t help but think, “Man, it’s just a little shy of perfect.” Sounds arrogant, I know. But honestly, that’s the joy of film talk—you get to love a movie to death while still picking at the seams. Forgive me, will ya? The more fun a film is, the more I find myself wishing it had just taken one more step. And once you start pulling on that thread—where does it snag, how could it be better—the whole cycle just becomes… well, ridiculously fun. Through talking about it, the movie gets reproduced, reframed, reborn. And that’s where new layers of enjoyment spring up. Maybe that’s what people mean these days by “analytical horror.” This solo ramble from podcaster Mako (@_macobana)—usually co-host of the main channel Pocket ni Numa o (#ポケ沼)—is part of my side show, Yomoyama Kobana-shi (#まこばな). There’s never an end to the movies I wanna talk about, so here they are, spilling onto this channel. New episodes drop weekly or bi-weekly. Got thoughts?
