20世纪80年代后期，正大集团在香港成立了正大综艺有限公司，开始在电视领域谋划布局。公司最初以国内地方电视台为试点，将制作完成的综艺节目冠名为《正大纵横》。1989年3月，正大公司开始给上海、北京、广州、福建等四家电视台供片试播，这是国内首个由香港影视公司定期提供片源的电视专栏节目。栏目分为《放眼世界》和《正大剧场》两个版块，每期的播出时间长达两小时。其中的《正大剧场》板块播映海外优秀水准的电影及电视剧集，由正大综艺有限公司选购并提供片源，这便是《正大剧场》的起点。主创团队在小宇宙查看该单集文稿
