ZoomTheTBT S3 Ep03: 03/21/22 - Conflict in Europe

from Zoom The TBT · host Charge + Haner

Current events in Europe involving the Ukrainian - Russian conflict have put the usual chatter about basketball in a different light. With millions of people in danger in the center of eastern Europe, the effects on the basketball community pale in comparison, but are an informative way to put the greater tragedy in context. Charge and Haner invited guests dialed into the current situation to get an idea of how the current war will affect European basketball over the coming months and likely years. Guest #1 (3/8 taping): Tom Ballato, founder of https://thenextprospect.org/, discusses the short and long term effects of the halt of the Ukrainian Super League as well as the Russian VTB United League's standing during international sanctions. Guest #2 (3/1 taping): Mike Davis, a guard who played with Kharkivski Sokoly of the Ukrainian Superleague as well as TBT's D2 squad, discusses living in the border city of Kharkiv right before the conflict started and what the future for the Ukrainian league might be. Guest #3 (3/3 taping): Marcus Keene, lead guard for Pallacanestro Varese and TBT's Sideline Cancer, discusses his experience playing for Kalev / Cramo last season (20-21) and his thoughts on his old squad being the first team to leave the Russian VTB United League in protest over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.   Sometimes it's bigger than basketball, and we hope putting a horrible war in this context helps a few of us wrap our minds around the human dimension.   Let's chop it up...  #YourTeamsYourTournament
