Zygoma Implants: Step By Step
from Dentistry Made Simple Hosted by Dentistry Made Simple
A comprehensive overview of zygoma and pterygoid implants, which serve as advanced alternatives for patients suffering from severe maxillary bone loss. The text details the essential facial anatomy, highlighting critical nerves, blood vessels, and sinus structures that surgeons must navigate to avoid complications. To ensure precision and safety, clinicians utilize CBCT imaging and digital surgical guides to plan complex implant trajectories. The materials also emphasize the importance of prosthetic planning, focusing on factors like smile esthetics, lip support, and phonetic function to restore a patient's quality of life. Various surgical techniques are discussed, including minimally invasive piezoelectric instrumentation and specific protocols for immediate loading of dental restorations. Ultimately, the text underscores that while these procedures have a steep learning curve, they offer a predictable solution for rehabilitating the atrophic maxilla without extensive bone grafting.
