吕思勉，字诚之，江苏常州人，中国现代历史学家。出身于一个书香门第，自幼家贫，12岁以后在父母师友的指导下研读史书。16岁自学古史典籍。1905年起，先后在苏州东吴大学、江苏省立第一师范专修科等校任教，学生中有后来成为文史大家的钱穆、赵元任等人。1926年起，任上海光华大学国文系、历史系教授兼系主任。抗战期间，归乡闭户著书。抗战胜利后，重返光华大学。1949年后，任华东师范大学历史系教授。
