Col Du Tourmalet tells the fictional tale of Team Peloton on their steep ascent into the Pyrenees; one of the most challenging mountain stages of the Tour De France. Team Peloton is comprised of all members of Seattle label Peloton Musique. Each sketched out sonic ideas, then circulated them through consecutive round robins to build upon each other’s sounds in model of the Peloton. Nora Posch leads with the electro-tinged “The Distance Mountain” ; analog white noise winds swirl as the 808 acid bassline kicks the team into gear as we ascend the mountain valley. Phaedrus, one of Seattle’s forefront techno producers imagines every kick and bass hit to represent the pedals and feet of the cyclist; in perfect rhythmic harmony all other senses are muted and a perceived “Sonic View” is heard.
