S3E14 The Hidden Danger of Unhealthy Leadership with Jesus!
Raz and Jamie sat down for an honest conversation about the painful reality of unhealthy church leadership—and the deeper heart issues that often fuel it. We discussed how easy it can be for leaders to build identity around ministry success, control, growth, productivity, or the opinions of people, rather than resting securely in who they already are in Christ. When leaders are not rooted in Jesus, ministry can slowly shift from serving people to managing systems, protecting platforms, or chasing outcomes. We also explored the Kingdom way of leadership that Jesus models: dying to self, abiding in Him, and leading from a place of surrender rather than striving. Healthy Kingdom leadership is not ultimately about building bigger organizations, but about loving and serving people well. Jesus consistently measured leadership differently than the world does—not by power, status, or numbers, but through humility, servanthood, faithfulness, and love. We talked about how true productivity flows from abiding in Christ and focusing on what He is focused on: people, presence, and obedience to the Father. If you are a leader, serve in ministry, or have been hurt by unhealthy leadership dynamics, we hope this conversation encourages you to slow down, reconnect with Jesus, and rediscover the freedom of leading with Him instead of carrying the weight alone.Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: Subscribe to With Him PodcastExplore past episodes and resourcesWith Him Podcast ArchiveResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) Mariemont ChurchJamie’s website & writing: Jamie Moore WebsiteJamie’s book, Friendship with God Friendship with God on Amazon

S3E12 Finding Purpose in Transition (John McCarthy) with Jesus!
We sat down again with our friend John McCarthy for a rich and timely conversation about what God has been doing in his life in this season. We explored the idea of “liminal space” — those in-between moments where one door has closed, but the next hasn’t fully opened. Instead of rushing through these uncomfortable seasons, John invites us to slow down and stay connected to Jesus right in the middle of the transition.Anchored in First Thessalonians 5:16–24, John shares a simple but powerful tool to help believers remain grounded, discerning, and attentive to the voice of God during seasons of uncertainty. We also dive into John’s work around his new resource, The RePurpose Promise: How to Find Purpose and Joy in Retirement, where he’s helping people in their 50s and beyond rethink retirement as “re-firement.” Rather than slowing down into comfort, this season can become one of renewed purpose — discovering what the Father has next. One of the most powerful themes in this conversation is the idea of wisdom transfer — the opportunity for older generations to invest in and disciple the next generation. When seasoned believers step into their calling, it creates a ripple effect of purpose, mentorship, and Kingdom impact. This episode is an invitation to trust God in the in-between, resist the urge to rush ahead, and walk with Jesus in every season.Connect and Learn More from John: https://purposepromise.org https://agimanagement.comGet the Book, The RePurpose Promise: How to Find Purpose and Joy in Retirement: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH2B1Z9CSubscribe to the “With Him” Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E11 The Bacon Station with Jesus!
Every spring, thousands gather in Cincinnati for the unforgettable Flying Pig Marathon—and it’s not just local hype. In 2024, USA Today named it the best marathon in the U.S., highlighting both its scenic course and its one-of-a-kind, joy-filled, pig-focused spirit. But for the last 15 years, Mariemont Church has shown up in a different way. Not inside a building… but out on the streets. On the corner of Plainville and Murray, the church becomes the church—serving as the hands and feet of Jesus through what’s become known as “The Bacon Station.”In this fun and joy-filled episode, Jamie and Raz talk about: • Handing out bacon to thousands of runners • A full-on celebration with a prayer tent, inflatables, live music, tattoos, and a selfie station • Why the church doesn’t have to gather in a building—because we are the church • What it looks like to bring the love, joy, and presence of Jesus into everyday spacesAnd yes… this episode is as fun as it sounds—Raz is rocking a bacon bucket hat, and Jamie shows up in full “Trolls”-inspired hot pink hair to promote the Bacon Station. But underneath the fun is something deeper: Jesus was full of joy. He welcomed children. He told stories that made people think—and laugh. He turned water into wine at a wedding celebration. He was acquainted with sorrow and grief… and yet for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross. And through His Spirit, that same joy is available to us.This episode is a reminder that: • Joy is not superficial—it’s spiritual • The presence of Jesus brings fullness of joy • We can carry that joy into the world—even in the middle of pain, fatigue, or a 26.2 mile raceSo whether you’re running, cheering, or just living your everyday life—this is an invitation to join Jesus in bringing joy, laughter, and love wherever you go.Links & Resources Learn more about the Flying Pig Marathon: https://flyingpigmarathon.com Promo Video 1: https://youtu.be/8ckVaO9spX8Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact Info Email Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

In this episode, we sit down with NFL tight end Josiah Deguara to talk about his journey of faith—growing up as a preacher’s kid, walking away from the Lord, and encountering Him again in a powerful way during college.Josiah shares what it was like playing football at the University of Cincinnati, where God began moving not just in his life, but among teammates and friends. S3E09 How to Discern God's Will with Jesus!
In this episode, Raz and I dive into one of the most important—and often confusing—questions in the Christian life: How do I know God’s will? We start by reframing the way we think about it.God’s will isn’t first about making the “right” decision—it’s about living with the Father who is already at work. Jesus isn’t distant, waiting for us to figure things out; He is present, inviting us into relationship in every moment—even in the ordinary, everyday parts of life.Key Ideas from This Episode1. The Father is always at workGod is not passive or silent—He is active, present, and moving in your life right now. Discerning His will begins with recognizing that reality.2. Jesus wants to be with you in everythingNot just the “big decisions,” but the mundane moments—work, conversations, errands, parenting. The will of God is often found in walking with Him, not just choosing for Him.3. Acknowledge Him in everythingScripture gives us a simple but powerful invitation:“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5-6Discerning God’s will grows out of a lifestyle of trust and continual awareness of His presence.4. You can hear His voiceEvery believer is one of Jesus’ sheep—and Jesus is clear:“My sheep hear my voice…” — Gospel of John 10:27Hearing God isn’t reserved for a few—it’s part of your identity as His child.Final EncouragementYou don’t have to strive to figure out God’s will from a distance. You get to walk with Him.And as you acknowledge Him in your everyday life, you’ll begin to notice something: He really does direct your paths.Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: 👉 https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources👉 https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: 📧 [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) 👉 https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: 👉 https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God 👉 https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E08 Feeling Off . . . with Jesus!
How do you discern what’s really going on when your soul feels . . . off? We’ve all experienced it. Something just feels off. You can’t quite explain it. You’re not necessarily sick. Nothing obvious is wrong. But internally something feels wonky, heavy, or out of alignment. In this episode, Raz and Jamie talk about the very real human experience of those moments—and what we can do when they happen. Instead of ignoring the feeling or immediately trying to fix it, we discuss how those moments can become an invitation to go to Jesus and let Him speak into what’s really going on.Often the feeling itself isn’t the problem. It’s a signal that something deeper needs attention. Here are some of the possibilities we explored. It Might Be Physical Sometimes the explanation is simple: you’re tired, dehydrated, hungry, or your body just needs rest. The Crash After a Mountaintop After an intense spiritual experience, ministry moment, or emotional high, there is often a physical and emotional crash. Adrenaline fades. Energy drops.Unconfessed Sin Sometimes the “off” feeling is conviction. Psalm 32 describes how the psalmist’s bones wasted away while he kept silent about sin. When something inside us feels heavy or uneasy, it can be an invitation to ask: “Lord, is there anything in my life that I need to confess or bring into the light?”Spiritual Malnourishment Sometimes we are spiritually hungry but feeding on things that don’t satisfy. We fill ourselves with the “cotton candy” of life—empty distractions, shallow joys, constant stimulation. But when we avoid true nourishment in God’s presence, our spiritual blood sugar drops. That inner “off” feeling might simply be a soul that needs real food.Busyness and Overload Life can become so full that our souls start sending warning signals. When everything is rushed and crowded, our inner life begins to lose its center. Sometimes feeling off is the soul saying: “Slow down. Come back to Jesus.”Grief and Sorrow Grief doesn’t only live in the mind—it lives in the body. When we’re processing loss, disappointment, or sorrow, our bodies can carry that weight. And Jesus understands this deeply. He experienced the full range of human emotion. Sometimes feeling off is simply the body holding grief, and Jesus understand this.Relational Tension When relationships are strained or unresolved conflict lingers, it often shows up as a lingering heaviness inside. The Spirit may be prompting us toward: forgiveness, conversation, reconciliationThe Social Media Effect Modern algorithms are literally designed to destabilize our emotions. They thrive on outrage, comparison, insecurity, and anxiety. Sometimes feeling off isn’t spiritual at all—it’s simply the effect of absorbing hours of algorithm-shaped emotions.Being Out of Step With Jesus Sometimes the feeling is actually spiritual guidance. When we are yoked to Jesus (Matthew 11:28–30), our lives move in step with Him. If we start pulling in another direction, we may feel internal tension. In Acts 16, Paul was forbidden by the Holy Spirit from going into Asia. The Spirit redirected him. Sometimes feeling off is the Spirit saying: “Pause. Check your direction. Come back into step with me.”The Invitation The key question in those moments isn’t: “How do I make this feeling go away?” The better question is: “Jesus, what are You saying about this?”That simple prayer turns a confusing moment into an opportunity to walk with Him more closely.<

S3E07 Under the Knife (of the Spirit) with Jesus!
In this episode, Raz and Jamie talk about the difference between gospel-motivated obedience and performance-driven holiness. Many of us approach sanctification like self-improvement — try harder, be better, do more. But Scripture paints a different picture. In Epistle to the Romans 12:2, Paul says: “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”Both commands are passive. You’re commanded not to let the world shape you — and to let God transform you. Then in Second Epistle to the Corinthians 3:18, we see how it happens: As we behold the glory of Jesus, we are being transformed from one degree of glory to another — by the Spirit. We don’t sanctify ourselves through spiritual performance. We are transformed as we fix our eyes on Jesus and partner with the Spirit.Holiness isn’t hustle. It’s surrender.7 Steps to Posture Your Heart for Surgery: (2 Corinthians 3:18) Sanctification is something the Spirit does — but we can position ourselves for His work.Settle Be still before God (Psalm 46:10).Invite Ask the Spirit to open your eyes (Psalm 119:18).Gaze Fix your eyes on Jesus in the Word.Surrender Let the Word expose and shape you.Write Journal what the Spirit reveals.Respond Pray it back in worship and confession.Carry Take the truth into your day.We also referenced the powerful sermon clip from Alistair Begg, often called “The Man on the Middle Cross.” It’s a compelling reminder that our hope is not in performance — but in the finished work of Jesus. If you haven’t watched it, take a few minutes and let it re-center you in the gospel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzv0iaBn_fkSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact Info Email Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E05 Second-Chance Hiring that Works (Kristen Schumacher, Nehemiah Manufacturing) with Jesus!
In this second episode with Kristen Schumacher, we zoom out to focus on the story and impact of Nehemiah Manufacturing — a company that has trail-blazed second-chance hiring practices since 2009, long before fair-chance employment became a mainstream conversation.Founded on the conviction that meaningful work restores dignity, Nehemiah intentionally built its business model around hiring individuals with significant barriers to employment, including those with criminal records, homelessness, and disrupted life histories. What began as a bold, countercultural experiment has grown into the largest second-chance manufacturing company in the United States, proving that doing good and doing business well are not competing values.Nehemiah’s innovative approach to redemptive employment has gained national recognition, becoming a case study at leading business schools — including Harvard and Yale — where MBA students study Nehemiah as a model of purpose-driven leadership, social impact, and sustainable growth. The company demonstrates that when leaders center dignity, accountability, and opportunity, businesses can flourish while transforming lives and communities.Based in Cincinnati’s inner city, Nehemiah partners with local organizations to provide job readiness training, mentoring, and wrap-around support so employees are not only hired, but positioned to thrive long-term. The result is more than jobs — it’s restored hope, strengthened families, and renewed neighborhoods.Inspired by the biblical Nehemiah, who was called to rebuild broken walls and restore a people, Nehemiah Manufacturing continues that work today — rebuilding lives one person and one day at a time — and offering a compelling vision of what it looks like to lead, hire, and build with Jesus at the center.A Practical Way to Support Nehemiah Manufacturing One of the simplest ways to support the mission of Nehemiah Manufacturing is by purchasing the products they proudly make. Every purchase helps create meaningful jobs, restore dignity, and provide second chances for individuals working to rebuild their lives. Nehemiah manufactures a growing lineup of household, cleaning, and consumer products you already use every day — thoughtfully made, high-quality, and rooted in a mission to build brands, create jobs, and change lives.Shop Nehemiah-made products: https://madebynehemiah.com/pages/shopWhen you buy Nehemiah products, you’re not just buying something useful — you’re helping rewrite someone’s story through meaningful work. You can also learn more and follow their ongoing impact at: https://www.madebynehemiah.com https://www.instagram.com/madebynehemiahSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact Info Email Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E04 Healing, Identity, and Leadership (Kristen Schumacher) with Jesus!
In this episode, we get to know Kristen Schumacher (Chief Marketing Officer, Nehemiah Manufacturing) on a personal level. Kristen shares her story of growing up in a Catholic family where faith was present and her relationship with Jesus became profoundly personal at a very young age. As early as six years old, she experienced Jesus as her closest friend — journaling prayers and conversations with Him as part of her everyday life.Kristen vulnerably recounts a horrific experience of abuse and the confusion, anxiety, depression, and pain that surfaced during her college years as a result. She reflects on the slow and sacred healing journey that followed — a journey where Jesus met her in her suffering, wept with her, restored her heart, and eventually invited her into the difficult but freeing work of forgiveness.Throughout the conversation, we explore the critical importance of being rooted and grounded in our identity in Christ — especially when navigating healing, leadership, marriage, parenting, and work. Kristen shares how identity, not performance, has become the anchor of her life and leadership. She also offers practical wisdom for staying grounded in the midst of a demanding career, including her intentional practice of scheduling “busy” time on her calendar — not to accomplish more, but to pause, recenter, and root herself again in Jesus.Kristen currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer at Nehemiah Manufacturing, a mission-driven company built on dignity, redemption, and second chances. Her personal journey with Jesus has deeply shaped the way she leads, loves, and lives — making this conversation both tender and powerfully hope-filled.Learn More About Nehemiah Manufacturing Kristen’s story is deeply connected to the redemptive work happening every day at Nehemiah Manufacturing — a company pioneering second-chance employment and proving that business can be a powerful force for healing and dignity. To learn more about their mission, stories, and products: Visit https://www.madebynehemiah.com Follow along on social media https://www.instagram.com/madebynehemiahIf this conversation stirred something in you, we encourage you to check out Nehemiah’s work and see how hope, purpose, and opportunity are being rebuilt — one person and one day at a time.Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact Info Email Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E03 Spiritual Direction and the Inner Life (Kristin Scott) with Jesus!
Our first guest of Season 3 is Kristin Scott, a spiritual director who—along with her husband Jason Scott—leads Activation Ministries. This episode is a tender, deeply formative conversation about intimacy with God, learning His voice, and following Him with courage and trust.Kristin’s Story: God as Her Personal “Rabbi”Kristin shared how she came to faith early in life and, from the beginning, experienced a deeply personal relationship with God. While she often longed for human disciplers, she eventually realized something profound: The Father Himself had been teaching her.She described knowing God not just as Savior, but as her Rabbi—patiently instructing her, shaping her inner life, and walking with her day by day. This season-opening conversation beautifully echoes the heart of With Him: not living for God in striving, but living with Him in relationship. What Is a Spiritual Director?Kristin explained what it means to serve as a spiritual director—someone who helps others notice where God is already present and active in their lives. Rather than giving answers, a spiritual director helps people:Listen more attentively to GodBecome aware of the movements of the SpiritGrow in discernment and trustShe also shared about her formal training and certification through Sustainable Faith https://sustainablefaith.comand how that process deepened her confidence in the quiet, gentle work of God.Ancient Practices for a Modern FaithWe explored some spiritual disciplines that Kristin has learned and now practices—many rooted in the ancient church, particularly the Catholic tradition. One key practice she discussed was the Examen, a reflective prayer discipline developed by St. Ignatius, which invites believers to:Review their day with GodNotice moments of consolation and desolationGive thanks, repent, and listenKristin emphasized that these practices are not about performance—but about awareness, presence, and love.Stepping Into the Unknown With GodOne of the most moving moments of the episode was Kristin’s vulnerability about stepping out in faith when it felt scary. She shared how the deep love of God—not pressure or fear—compelled her forward. She testified that following God into the unknown doesn’t mean abandoning safety; instead, it means discovering that true security is found in His love.A Prayer for the ListenersKristin closed the episode by praying over the listeners, inviting us all to slow down, listen more deeply, and trust the God who is already with us—teaching, leading, and loving us every step of the way.Why This Episode MattersThis Season 3 premiere sets the tone for what’s ahead:A God who desires intimacy, not distanceA faith shaped by listening, not strivingA life formed with Jesus, not merely for HimIf you’re longing to know God more personally, to trust His guidance, or to cultivate a deeper inner life—this conversation is for you.Listen, slow down, and learn to walk with Him.To learn more about Kristin—and how to connect with her for spiritual direction—visit:Activation Ministries https://www.activationministries.orgInstagram: @activation_ministries https://www.instagram.com/activation_ministriesFacebook: Activation Ministries https://www.facebook.com/activationministriesSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-

S3E02 Developing History with Jesus!
What does it look like to develop history with God?In this episode, Jamie and Raz explore the idea that our relationship with God is meant to grow the same way any meaningful friendship does—through shared experiences, trust built over time, and walking together through both ordinary and extraordinary moments. Faith isn’t just about beliefs or behaviors; it’s about history—a lived, relational story with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.Throughout Scripture, we see men and women who didn’t just know about God—they knew Him, because they had history with Him. Their intimacy wasn’t instant; it was formed through obedience, failure, listening, repentance, courage, and costly faithfulness. This conversation invites listeners to move beyond transactional spirituality and into relational depth—where God is not just someone we serve, but Someone we walk with.A Question Worth Sitting WithWhat kind of history are you building with God right now? Not just what you believe—but what you’ve walked through together.InvitationIf you’re longing for a deeper, more personal relationship with God—not just knowledge about Him—this episode will encourage you to start where all real intimacy begins: walking with Him, one step at a time.Listen in, reflect, and consider how God may be inviting you into deeper history with Him.Stories & Resources MentionedFoxe's Book of Martyrs – A sobering reminder of believers who developed deep, costly history with God through unwavering faith https://www.amazon.com/dp/0882708759Jesus Freaks – Modern-day stories of Christians who followed Jesus boldly, often at great personal cost https://www.amazon.com/dp/0764237284VeggieTales – Rack, Shack, and Benny – A surprisingly profound retelling of Daniel 3, reminding us (and our kids) that faithfulness is formed long before the furnace https://veggietales.comSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resourceshttps://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S3E01 - Season 3: What is God's Love Language? With Jesus!
Welcome to Season 3 of the With Him Podcast! As we step into the New Year of 2026, Raz and I kick off the season with a simple but profound theme: learning how to be present with Abba. This episode isn’t about hustle, goals, or religious performance—it’s about relationship. We explore the Father’s heart to be with His kids and what it might look like to intentionally choose His presence in the year ahead. The Word for 2026: Presence What if this year wasn’t about doing more for God—but about being more with Him?We talk about how human parents experience deep joy when their adult children choose to spend time with them—not out of obligation, but desire. That same joy, we believe, reflects the heart of God the Father. Abba delights when His kids want to be with Him.Abba’s Love Language? Building on insights from The 5 Love Languages, we play with a compelling idea: What if God the Father’s primary love language is quality time?If that’s true, then our presence—our attention, our availability—might be one of the greatest gifts we can give Him.A Question for the New Year We pose a reflective, prayerful question for listeners: If Abba’s love language was quality time, what would you do differently this year? Would you linger longer in prayer? Create unhurried space in your day? Choose presence over productivity?Resources Mentioned in This Episode If this theme stirs something in you, here are a few thoughtful resources we referenced:God’s Relational Presence — J. S2E49 SALT, "Godsicles", and Kingdom Encounters (Jason Scott) with Jesus!
In this second conversation, Jason Scott shares the heart and mission behind Activation Ministries, the ministry he and his wife Kristin launched to awaken hearts and ignite the Body of Christ. Their passion is simple and biblical: equip everyday believers to hear God’s voice, step into their identity, and join Jesus in His Kingdom work.Jason describes himself as a “player-coach”—someone who doesn’t just teach from the sidelines but equips people and then steps onto the field with them to minister side-by-side.We talk through the practical skills they teach, including how to hear God’s voice, how to give a prophetic word with love and clarity, and how to pray for healing in a naturally supernatural way. This past summer, Activation partnered with City Church OTR for a missional outreach initiative. Each weekend they trained believers, then went out in small groups to hand out popsicles—affectionately called “godsicles.” This simple act opened doors for SALT conversations: Start a conversation. Ask questions. Listen. Take action.Through these steps of faith, they saw Jesus move—people encouraged, prayed for, deeply listened to… and even physically healed, including a man walking away from crutches. If you’re hungry to learn how to recognize God’s voice, love people with boldness, and grow in Kingdom confidence, this episode will stir your heart. To learn more about what Jason and Kristin are doing—and to consider partnering with or supporting their ministry—visit:Activation Ministries https://www.activationministries.orgInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/activation_ministriesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/activationministriesTheir ministry is catalytic, practical, and deeply needed in the Church today. S2E47 Power Rangers, Calling, and Stepping Into the Adventure (Jason Scott) with Jesus!
In this episode, Jason Scott shares his incredible journey from religious upbringing to radical life transformation in Jesus. Growing up in the Catholic church, Jason knew about God but didn’t walk with Him. College at Ohio University led him into deep addiction to alcohol and drugs — a path that nearly destroyed his life.Everything shifted 25 years ago when Jason attended a church service in Cincinnati, heard the gospel clearly, and was instantly set free from addiction. His life with Jesus took off from there: restored identity, a thriving marriage, and major success in the corporate world. Then God spoke: “I’m going to bless you, and you’re going to work for Me.” What followed was a wild season of confirmations as Jason and Kristin stepped out of their careers, downsized their home, and launched Activation Ministries by faith. And yes — one of those confirmations happened in a Power Rangers movie. The god-like mentor figure looked at the main character (named Jason Scott) and said, “Jason Scott, now is the time.” It became a defining moment of calling and courage. If you’re longing to hear God’s voice, take a risk, or step into the adventure of following Jesus, Jason’s story will inspire and strengthen you.Check out Jason and Kristin’s work at Activation Ministries: Website: https://activationministries.org Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/activation_ministries Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/activationministriesSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources and Contact InfoEmail Raz and Jamie: mailto:[email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website and writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God Available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S2E46 OT Law: Slavery, Women, and Sexuality with Jesus!
In this conversation, Jamie and Raz dive into one of the most challenging parts of the Bible to understand: the Old Testament Law. As the YOUR STORY reading plan leads the church family into Exodus, they explore how New Testament believers—rooted in the gospel of Jesus—should make sense of laws that address topics like slavery, women’s rights, and sexuality. They emphasize that God the Father was not endorsing the broken structures of the ancient Near East. Rather, He was working within a fallen cultural world to plant the earliest seeds of freedom, equality, and human dignity—seeds that would grow into full bloom in the New Testament.Key Ideas 1. OT Slavery ≠ Modern Slavery Ancient Israel’s system was more like indentured servitude, usually temporary and often voluntary for economic survival. God built protections, limits, and humanizing commands into Israel’s laws that were radical for their time. These were not endorsements—they were first steps toward liberation.2. God Plants Seeds, Not Finished Structures The Father works inside a broken culture but sows truths that outgrow that culture. By the time the NT arrives, God’s heart becomes unmistakably clear: “There is neither slave nor free, male nor female… for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal 3:28) The eventual abolition of slavery and the expansion of women’s rights have deep biblical roots.3. Eden Is the Goal, Not the Ancient Near Eastern Culture The culture God wants is Eden—no slavery, no domination, no oppression, no devaluing of women. The ANE was simply the culture He stepped into to begin restoring Eden through His people.4. Sexuality and Holiness OT laws around sexuality aimed to protect covenant faithfulness, stabilize families, and create a distinct community of holiness. Jesus fulfills and intensifies this—bringing us from outward rules to inner transformation in the Spirit.5. The Gospel Is the True Foundation of Freedom The good news that He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us (2 Cor 5:21) is the ultimate liberation. Freedom doesn’t come from law-keeping; it comes from union with Christ. The gospel restores our dignity and re-establishes our identity as God’s image-bearers.Want help understanding OT Law? S2E45 Nervousness and Kingdom Adventure with Jesus!
In this conversation, Jamie and Raz explore the Kingdom adventure that opens up when we follow God the Father into assignments that are bigger than our strength, skill, or experience. Using the story of Moses and the burning bush (Exodus 3–4), they highlight how Yahweh calls Moses to confront Pharaoh—a task far beyond Moses’ natural capacity.Instead of telling Moses to get more training, build a better résumé, or take a leadership course, God gives him a single promise: “I will be with you.” That promise becomes the bridge across the gap between human weakness and divine calling.Key Ideas 1) The Gap Is Where the Adventure Lives God routinely invites His children into spaces where their own capacity is not enough. The “gap” between what I can do and what God is asking is the very place where Kingdom adventure is born.2) God Doesn’t Solve Moses’ Insecurity With Self-Improvement Moses argues that he’s inadequate, unskilled, and not up for the job. Yahweh’s solution isn’t: “Improve yourself.” It’s: “My presence fills the gap.”3) Don’t Play It Safe Many believers limit themselves to things they can succeed at based purely on natural strength. Jesus invites us into a life where obedience requires His presence—where if He doesn’t show up… we can’t pull it off.4) Courage Looks Like Neediness, Not Self-Confidence We often feel nervous, afraid of failing, or afraid of looking foolish. But the right posture isn’t “I’ve got this”—it’s “Father, I need You.” That needy dependence is where faith is formed and where the Kingdom breaks in.5) Unless Jesus Shows Up… Following God often looks like stepping into something where, unless Jesus intervenes, it won’t work. That’s not recklessness—that’s trust.Practical Encouragement for Listeners Notice where God may be inviting you into something beyond your ability. Don’t disqualify yourself because you don’t feel capable. Let your nervousness be a reminder: the adventure is supposed to be bigger than you. Step into obedience with the confidence that He is with you—the same promise He gave Moses. To join the "YOUR STORY" reading plan, sign up here: https://mariemontchurch.churchcenter.com/groups/unique/your-story-encountering-the-father-in-his-wordSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God Available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609

S2E44 Learning in the School of the Father with Him!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz talk about what it means to enroll in “The School of the Father”—where the Teacher is God Himself.Throughout the Scriptures, we find a stunning promise: God wants to personally teach His children. From the prophets of the Old Testament to the words of Jesus and the Apostle Paul, we see a thread of divine instruction—the Father leading, guiding, and forming us by His Spirit.Even the psalmist understood this reality: “I have more understanding than all my teachers . . . for You have taught me.” Psalm 119:99–102 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+119%3A99-102&version=ESVJamie and Raz unpack passages like Isaiah 30, Jeremiah 31, and 1 Thessalonians 4, showing that walking with Him means learning from Him. Isaiah 30: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+30%3A18-21&version=ESV Jeremiah 31: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+31%3A33-34&version=ESV 1 Thessalonians 4: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Thessalonians+4%3A9&version=ESVThey also offer practical steps for getting into this “school”:Enroll yourself – Believe that God, the Father, wants to be your teacher.Open your textbook – Read the Bible with expectation that He’ll speak.Listen to the lecture – Slow down and let the Spirit highlight truth.Take notes – Write down what you hear so you don’t forget.Ask questions – Dialogue with the Father; learning happens in relationship.Scriptures to explore (Read these and ask the Father to teach you!):Isaiah 30:18–21 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+30%3A18-21&version=ESVJeremiah 31:33–34 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+31%3A33-34&version=ESVIsaiah 54:13 (cf. S2E43 Encountering the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with Him!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz share what they’re learning through the Your Story chronological Bible reading journey—and invite listeners to jump in and read along with the church family. They reflect on the lives of the patriarchs—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and how remarkable it is that God the Father continually appears, speaks, guides, blesses, and keeps covenant with these men (and women), even though their lives are full of sin and dysfunction. Manipulation, deception, control, favoritism, polygamy, and violence are all part of their stories—yet God never stops pursuing relationship with them.Together, Jamie and Raz marvel that the Father seems far more interested in their covenant loyalty than their sinless perfection. His desire has always been to be with His people. They trace this theme forward to the New Testament, celebrating the stunning reality that we now get to experience God’s presence within us through the Holy Spirit. As believers, we have become mobile temples—His dwelling place—because of the finished work of Jesus’ death and resurrection, not because of our own performance.Using Jacob’s dream of the stairway to heaven as an example—where he awoke and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it!”—they challenge listeners to recognize the same truth in our own lives. God is with us all the time, even when we’re unaware. The episode ends with practical ways to practice His presence: learning to turn prayer into a two-way conversation of talking and listening to God, rather than simply reciting requests. To join the "YOUR STORY" reading plan, sign up here: https://mariemontchurch.churchcenter.com/groups/unique/your-story-encountering-the-father-in-his-wordSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God Available on Amazon

S2E41 Find the Main Character in Scripture with Him!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz explore how to read the Bible more effectively by focusing on the main character—God the Father.Too often, we read Scripture through the lens of the human characters, trying to imitate their actions or apply their experiences to our own lives. But when we do that, we can miss what the story is truly revealing about God Himself.Jamie and Raz explain that the frame you use shapes what you see—and if we focus on the wrong character, we can draw the wrong lessons. For example, looking to Job’s friends for how to comfort someone in suffering completely misses the point—because God condemns their response!Instead, this conversation invites you to slow down, look for what the passage reveals about God’s nature, heart, and actions, and then ask how that truth about who He is applies to your life.Using the story of Hagar in Genesis 16, they show that Abraham’s behavior is far from exemplary—but the Father’s is extraordinary. God meets Hagar, a mistreated and forgotten woman, hears her cry, and reveals Himself as El Roi—“the God who sees.”This episode reminds us that reading the Bible with Him means looking for the Father in every story—the One who sees, hears, and draws near to the brokenhearted. To join the "YOUR STORY" reading plan, sign up here: 👉 https://mariemontchurch.churchcenter.com/groups/unique/your-story-encountering-the-father-in-his-wordSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: 👉 https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources 👉 https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) 👉 https://www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: 👉 https://www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God 👉 Available on Amazon

S2E40 Keep a Soft Heart Toward the Father (Samantha Treas) with Jesus!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz sit down with Samantha Treas to talk about matters of the heart—learning to see God as a loving Father who’s after relationship, not perfection.Sam shares about growing up Catholic and how Jesus began visiting her in dreams as a child, telling her, “I’m your friend.” Even during her college years of intentional wandering, she later realized He was gently wooing her heart back the whole time.In this deep conversation, they explore what it means to keep a soft heart toward God, to repent relationally instead of religiously, and to understand that the Father cares far more about your heart than your behavior. S2E39 Dying to Self with Jesus!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz explore one of Jesus’ most radical and freeing teachings: “Take up your cross and follow Me”. What does it really mean to die to self—and why is it essential for truly gaining Jesus and living in the Kingdom? They reflect on the dangers of leadership that hasn’t gone through the cross—when a person hasn’t died to self, they often lead out of insecurity, control, or self-promotion, which can harm others. The conversation also turns toward the subtle poison of unforgiveness and how it keeps us from walking in freedom.Jamie and Raz offer some practical steps for cultivating a secure identity in Christ:Guard your heart from pride, comparison, and bitternessSpend daily time in the Word to renew your mindAsk the Holy Spirit to reveal unsubmitted areas and invite His transformationThis is a raw, honest, and hopeful episode—reminding us that when we die to self, we actually come alive with Jesus.Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resourceshttps://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH)Jamie’s website & writing: www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God: Available on Amazon

S2E38 Worship, Work, and Windows (Spencer Robinette) with Jesus!
In this third episode with Spencer Robinette, Raz and Jamie explore what it means to be a minister with Jesus—not just inside the walls of a church, but out in the world where most people live and work. Ministry isn’t just for vocational pastors—it’s for every follower of Jesus, wherever they are.Rooted in Ephesians 4:11–12, the conversation highlights God’s design for church leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry. That means pastors aren’t called to do all the ministry for people, but to train and release God’s people to live as ministers in their workplaces, families, and communities.Spencer shares stories from his time as a barista—where his pastor’s heart came alive behind a coffee bar—and how he continues to live out his ministry calling now as a sales rep at Windows Plus.He shares 3 core values for doing marketplace ministry:Work as Worship – Everything we do is an offering to God.Work as Service – Serving people matters more than closing a deal.Work with Integrity – Honoring people with honesty, not manipulation. The guys also talk about how to practically bring Jesus into your everyday work life—like praying before meetings, listening for the Spirit’s guidance, and remembering what Jesus said: “My Father is always at work.” That means your work matters, and you never do it alone. In fact, the Father has already prepared good works for you to walk in today (Ephesians 2:10). He’s intentional, and He invites you to partner with Him—right where you are.Resources Mentioned:Dangerous and Beautiful by Revivaltown Music (Spencer Robinette)Amazon MusicSpotifyiTunes / Apple MusicRooted Discipleship Classes (including "Faith at Work") Windows Plus CincinnatiSubscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resourceshttps://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH)Jamie’s website & writing: www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God: Available on Amazon

S2E37 Grief and Lament (Spencer Robinette) with Jesus!
In this powerful follow-up conversation, Raz and Jamie sit down again with Spencer Robinette to go deeper into his journey in ministry and grief. Spencer shares about serving in full-time vocational ministry—leading youth and worship, planting a church, and eventually merging that young plant with his dad’s older, more traditional congregation. He describes the joy and privilege of serving in ministry alongside his father… and the heartbreak of losing him just a few years later.Spencer opens up about what he learned—and what he regrets—during the grieving process. Feeling responsible for the congregation’s healing, he neglected his own grief. That is, until a raw and powerful encounter with Jesus in his car on one of his darkest, angriest days. Jesus simply said, “Let it out.” What followed was 30 minutes of honest lament—anger, pain, questions—and the healing presence of Jesus who responded, “I hear you. I love you.”This episode is a tender and courageous look at grief, lament, and the God who meets us in both. Spencer encourages listeners not to stuff their pain and pretend everything is okay, but to bring it honestly to Jesus—who welcomes our cries and begins the work of healing.Resources MentionedDangerous and Beautiful by Revivaltown Music (Spencer Robinette) Available on:Amazon MusicSpotifyiTunes / Apple MusicA Grief Observed by C. S2E36 Reading the Bible Relationally!
In this episode, Jamie and Raz talk about the difference between reading the Bible academically versus relationally. Too often we treat Scripture as information to master, rather than an invitation to engage with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They share four practical ways to begin reading the Bible relationally:Prayer — Talk with God as you read. Picture Jesus with you and engage Him in conversation about the Scriptures. Story — See the Bible as your family story. God is Father, we’ve been grafted into His people Israel, and we get to learn how our royal family lives and loves. Theology — Study God Himself as a person—what He loves, hates, desires, and plans. Reading the Bible this way helps us know His heart and encounter Him. Obedience — Be doers of the Word. Obeying what we learn is deeply relational because we do it, partnering with Jesus and the Spirit. Finally, Jamie and Raz invite listeners to join the upcoming church-wide Bible reading journey starting soon.👉 Click here to join the YOUR STORY group journey!Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH)Jamie’s website & writing: www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God Available on Amazon

S2E30 Adventure with the Father, Son, and Spirit!
In this follow-up to the previous solo episode on developing a “Trinity-shaped” life, Jamie Moore is re-joined by co-host Paul Raz to explore what it actually looks like to live in ongoing relationship with each person of the Trinity. They reflect on the dynamic adventure of walking with the Father, Son, and Spirit—contrasting it with the stale, rule-based version of faith many people have settled for. Together, they identify common mindsets and misconceptions that keep people stuck in religion instead of relationship, such as:Seeing God primarily as a distant authority figure instead of a loving Father.Thinking of obedience to the words of Jesus as oppressive and taking away all our fun, instead of giving us freedom and life.Failing to consider life as an adventure with the Triune God, who has plans for us - even in the mundane. For viewers of the podcast on YouTube, you can enjoy some candid photos of Paul and Juli's sabbatical in beautiful Colorado!Subscribe to the "With Him" Podcast email list Get new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcastExplore past episodes and resources https://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcastResources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book, Friendship with God Available on Amazon

S2E28 God WITH Us: The Big Story of the Bible!
In this episode, Jamie Moore (going solo, while Raz is on sabbatical) traces the grand narrative of Scripture through one central theme: God wants to be WITH His people. From Genesis to Revelation, the story of the Bible is a love story about presence. Jamie unpacks six key movements in the biblical storyline that reveal God's relentless desire to dwell with His children:The Garden – God’s presence with Adam and Eve, broken by sin and rebellion.Covenant and Tabernacle – God makes a covenant with His people and dwells with them in the wilderness Tabernacle. The Temple – God’s presence settles in Jerusalem through the Temple as a permanent dwelling. The Incarnation (Immanuel) – Jesus, God in flesh, comes to dwell with us, restoring access to the Father.Pentecost – The Spirit is poured out to dwell within believers, making us mobile temples of God’s presence. The New Garden – In Revelation 21, God dwells perfectly and permanently with His people forever. From Garden to New Garden, the Bible tells one story: God, the Father, wants to be WITH you!Jamie reminds us that this story isn’t just theology—it’s personal. If the Father went to these lengths to be with us, He wants to be with you in your everyday life. Not just in big moments, but in your meetings, commutes, decisions, and relationships. So, don’t live your life independently. Jesus made it possible for you to live WITH God, the Father—today and every day.📚 Resources Mentioned:Friendship with God by Jamie Moore: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1736292609God's Relational Presence by Scott Duvall and Daniel Hayes: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0801049598📩 Subscribe to the With Him Podcast email listGet new episodes, bonus content, and more: https://mailchi.mp/mariemontchurch/sub-to-with-him-podcast🎧 Explore Past Episodes and Resourceshttps://www.mariemontchurch.org/with-him-podcast📬 Resources & Contact InfoEmail Raz & Jamie: [email protected] church: Mariemont Church (Cincinnati, OH) www.mariemontchurch.orgJamie’s website & writing: www.jamiemoore.orgJamie’s book: Friendship with God Available on Amazon
