This is “Worst Day Ever,” a very stressful recap of the very stressful first season of “24.” Hosts Josh Wigler and Emily Fox are recapping every episode of “24” Season 1, without spoilers for folks who have never seen the show before (including Emily!), with only 24 minutes to cover any given episode. First premiering in 2001, “24” centers on Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, as he embarks on the worst day of his life. Terrorists are conspiring to assassinate presidential candidate David Palmer, Jack’s family is in danger, and folks he works with may be involved in both plots. Each episode takes place across this very bad day, with events occurring in real-time. For now, “Worst Day Ever” only plans to cover season one of “24.” This week, Josh and Emily recap Season 1 Episode 4 and take feedback from the listeners. It’s Josh and Emily’s first time podcasting about “24” in 2021! How exciting! Josh and Emily take off the 24-minute restriction and spend nearly an hour in the world of Bauer, talking about what goes down between hours 3 and 4, and also taking in listener feedback for the first time all season. Josh and Emily will do another round of Off the Clock feedback in time for Episode 8, so send your thoughts to [email protected]. 24 Live Another Day: Season Finale Recap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0nvjbw0lHQ Watch the Show on YouTube – RSVP for the LIVE Event Listen to the Podcast: Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler review the finale of 24: Live Another Day Josh thinks the ending would divide a lot of people but he really likes the ending. Rob wonders if Jack Bauer is going to be okay and if we would see him again. Josh says Jack is a waking curse and the death of Audrey should drive this point. Josh also thinks that this is not the end of 24 but if it ends here, it ends here and it works. Josh says it doesn’t bother him that the ending is too similar to Season 5 where Jack goes off with Cheng. The show has been an exercise in repeating itself for four seasons now. It’s been playing its greatest hits for quite a while. Josh thinks the show’s creators have chosen to just torture Jack at every turn because the viewers keep watching and it’s what we like. Josh doesn’t think the world, the Hellers and Jack Bauer all would have been better off if Jack would have just stayed where he was and not reared his head here on Day 9 of 24. Jack is the only one who can take out Cheng. No one else is going to be able to do it because Jack knows Cheng. Rob thinks otherwise. If Jack doesn’t show up, Margot Al-Harazi has the override device. She gets all of her drones and Cheng never gets the override device. Josh thinks Rob underestimates Cheng and if he wants the override device, he gets it no matter what. Josh supports the show’s decision to kill off Audrey because it gives us some great moments like Heller’s speech and Jack cutting Cheng’s head off with a samurai sword. Josh says it would have been better if Kate made a split-second choice to save Audrey. Rob says Cheng is getting angry and Mark Boudreau is getting upset. Jack decides that they need to go after Audrey but he also needs to go after Cheng so they end up letting Kate save Audrey which is not a good choice. Rob mentions President Heller calling up President Wei. President Wei is not happy about the destruction of the Cavalry. Chloe is working with Jack and she apologizes to Jack about everything. Jack and Belcheck set Chloe up in an office. Jack and Belcheck kill the guys left and right. Rob and Josh agree that this episode is very action-packed. Cheng gives the order to kill Audrey. Josh finds it plausible that Kate Morgan is able with her pistol to take out the sniper. Cheng realizes that Bauer is there and he and his guys decide to leave. Audrey and Kate start to make their move but a car comes around the corner and Cheng’s backup guys fire on them. Audrey looks down and realizes that she’s been shot. Kate calls Jack Bauer and tells him they lost Audrey. Jack takes the pistol out of his holster. Rob and Josh think Jack is considering suicide. Josh mentions that this is not the first time Jack has suicidal tendencies. Jack eventually wakes up and snaps back to business mode. Jack goes on a rampage and kills guys with pistols. Rob narrates how Jack and Cheng have a fistfight for a little bit. Jack Bauer gets the upper hand and President Heller gives the permission to engage. They review nuclear response scenarios and Jack informs President Heller that he has Cheng. Jack issues the sentence and carries it out himself. Josh is satisfied with how Jack killed Cheng with a samurai sword. Rob thinks it’s a very quick death after what Cheng did to Jack and Audrey. Rob mentions president Heller being informed that Audrey is dead and President Heller couldn’t believe it. Jack Bauer comes out and finds out that Chloe is not there. Rob thinks it’s a sad ending for Kate Morgan turning in the badge and walking away. Josh thinks Mark turning himself in is a rough ending. Rob thinks that the Russian guy Mark was dealing with had ties to Cheng and is somehow an accessory to Audrey’s death. Rob mentions the Russians trading Chloe for Jack Bauer. Jack and Chloe meet in the middle. Jack tells Chloe she’s his best friend and asks her to look after his family. 24: Live Another Day Review: Recap of the 24 Live Another Day Finale

24: Live Another Day: Episode 11 Recap | 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbzmPNiWygs Watch the Show on YouTube – RSVP for the LIVE Event Listen to the Podcast: Subscribe to 24 LIVE Podcast Rob and Josh both feel bad for Audrey and they think she’s been through enough. Audrey and Cheng have a dark and tormented history. Rob mentions that any woman that Jack meets is either kidnapped, murdered, assaulted; you name it. Jack Bauer confronting Mark Boudreau is one of the best scenes of the night for Rob. Audrey is at the mercy of Cheng right now. Josh wants to see Jack brutally killing Cheng next week. Josh thinks that Chloe’s move when Cheng’s guys were trying to take her out and she fell on top of a cellphone was sort of lame but it worked since she got the recording but Cheng didn’t fall for it. Josh thinks Cheng is too focused on getting out of England with his head intact. He realizes there is a ticking clock with Bauer and having Audrey is ammunition against Bauer. Having Chloe under his thumb is also ammunition against Bauer. Rob thinks Erik is becoming a good CIA director. Gavin finds out that the Russians are tracking Jack and the President’s Chief of Staff requested it and Mark Boudreau is busted. They also find out that the Russians and Chinese are working together. Kate is wondering why Mark Boudreau is helping them. Josh thinks it could be as simple as Mark being a jerk. One of Rob’s most favorite parts of the episode is the phone call between Audrey and Jack. Josh says Audrey likes it when Jack kills people. Audrey basically likes a cold-blooded killer over Mark, who is Mr. Nice Guy and the President’s chief of staff. Rob’s favorite President Heller scene of all time is when Jack comes in and says he wants to speak with Heller and Mark. So they go in there and Jack has Mark up against the wall and Rob thinks Heller is really funny in that scene. So Mark tries to spin things around. And Jack reveals what Mark has got to do with the Russians. Josh loves how Jack Bauer insults people. Rob says his profanity level is in 4th grade. This is perhaps the most badass move Chloe has ever done is when Cheng is driving around and Chloe just dives into the moving van. She jumped onto a moving vehicle and took a nap at the woods for a while. Josh says there is no way that Chloe is dead right now, considering she is one of the major characters. Heller back in his mission control is starting to get nervous and drops the pills on the floor. Josh thinks this just shows Heller has had a really rough, freaking day. The Chinese launched off two missiles and they cut out the satellite and Josh thinks it’s a great move. Josh comments the thugs for this season are just disappointing. Mark and the Russian guy talk and it comes down to money, as it always done. Josh says, Mark should’ve demanded barrels of oil. Josh says Boudreau’s best moment of the season is him wrestling with Batman Beard. Rob agrees that it was his very strong moment. Everyone thought he was going to die. Well it was the obvious move but he didn’t get killed and Josh thinks this is a good move by 24. Josh also thinks the ghosts of the past are here to haunt Jack Bauer. Rob is wondering how Cheng knows where Audrey is going and where she should be. Josh says it’s time to bust out the mole patrol. Who’s left? Josh suspects it would be someone from the White House. Josh explains how Audrey got abducted in China back in Season 6. Josh says Cheng may need Audrey in order to get hold of Jack Bauer. A lot will still happen next week. Josh says it would’ve been wiser if they went with 13 episodes. The hosts are answering questions from the audience. Josh is guessing Mark gets to go away from this because he helped Jack. Josh senses Mark is going to be okay though he would love to see him in jail. Josh thinks both Mark and Audrey would make it alive. But there’s a chance that Audrey dies next week. Josh admits there was a moment he thought Audrey was working with Cheng, but he was glad it didn’t go that way. Rob says it would’ve been pretty good. Josh thinks it’s highly possible Jack won’t be killing Cheng in the final episode and he is definitely rooting against that outcome. 24: Live Another Day Recap: Review of Episode 11 Subscribe to Post Show Recaps [saf]

Josh is just so happy with this episode. The worst it is for Jack Bauer, the better it is for Josh. He thinks this is the best episode of the season by far and he is just so excited about how the season will close. It seems that everyone is getting together trying to screw over Jack Bauer. Josh thinks it’s the perfect collision of almost all of the crazy forces of 24 in one spot. The return of Cheng Zhi was actually off their radar but it is a very good twist. Adrian Cross turned out to be not that diabolic after all. Josh explains where we left things off with Cheng who first appeared at the end of Season 4. The last that was seen of him was in Season 6 when he was captured. Cheng is perhaps Jack’s mortal enemy. Adrian Cross is dead. Rob thinks Adrian bit off more than he could chew. Josh says he regrets nothing and is satisfied. Steve Navarro is apprehended and in CIA custody. Mark Boudreau calls in the Russians who then sneak-attacked Jack Bauer. Josh says he’s more of like Boo-dreau and such a jerk, just as he was starting to be Jack’s Beau-bro. The episode starts with chasing Navarro about the override device. Josh was initially worried that Chloe was drinking the Cross tea and getting on board with his plan. Josh thinks that Adrian bringing up Morris and Prescott has a reason and that something is gonna be revealed. Navarro did a lot of things trying to cover up his butt and Josh thinks that it was a good move for him to carry a weapon especially when it’s Jack chasing you. Josh says Steve may just be the most hated person on 24. Rob would have sympathized with Mark had he not contacted the Russians. Everybody has turned around on Jack except Mark. The analyst, the sub Jordan Reed hacks into the system and sets up Kate Morgan’s husband and it’s a sad story. Josh explains the dynamics of Steve Navarro, Adrian Cross, and Kate Morgan’s husband. They’re setting up everything with Navarro and the hosts are hyped that Jack is going to torture somebody for the first time in Live Another Day. Josh says this is awesome being the full circle moment from the start of the season where the tables have turned and the situation is completely reversed. Navarro is negotiating with Jack and seems he’s had enough. Rob thinks it’s probably the best single moment of the episode as far as the action goes when Navarro asked for full immunity and Jack just goes to town on Steve’s hand. Josh agrees with Rob saying it was a Jack Bauer moment. Rob says that of all reasons that Jack has to be double-crossed, this is perhaps the dumbest thing that he’s in a love triangle. Mark realizes the entire free world is depending on Jack Bauer and he just told the Russians how to stop it. The hosts certainly think Mark messed things up here. Kate Morgan’s stunt is awesome and is rising the ranks among Josh’s favorite characters in 24. There was no deal between Jack and Steve so the death penalty is back on the table and this would make one great episode. Josh recalls the events that explains why Jack was on the run and which cost him the past four years of his life. Rob is wondering how Jack got away with the firefight with like 15 Russians. Josh says Jack always gets away. Josh thinks the “Cheng twist” may have to be the final boss. The show is just twisting and turning like crazy right now. Josh thinks 24:Live Another Day has gotten off to an incredible start with its 2-hour premiere. And the past 3-4 episodes are just as strong as 24 has been since Season 5. This season started to go crazy in a good way when Navarro was outed as the mole and the drone was attacking the hospital and since then, it’s just been amazing. Josh thinks that to see Audrey with Jack and Cheng in a room would be an explosive potential for drama, considering Audrey’s history with Cheng in Season 6. Both Rob and Josh think Jack would take bigger revenge against Cheng any day of the week. 24: Live Another Day Recap | 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm Review Subscribe to Post Show Recaps [saf]

24: Live Another Day: Episode 9 Recap | 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILInSb-R2J4 Watch the Show on YouTube – RSVP for the LIVE Event Listen to the Podcast: Highlights of this episode: President Heller is alive. Jack threw Margot Al-Harazi out of the window. Steve Navarro turned into the bad guy. Chloe’s on a date with creepy Adrian Cross. Everyone has gone haywire. So what do the hosts think? Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler review 24: Live Another Day, Episode 9 Rob thought this was a great episode with so much to do. It felt almost felt like a finale. Josh thinks it’s the best episode of the season by far and the best 30 mins of the season was the first 30 mins. 24 is at its best when it’s racing against the clock, and that is just what happened in the first 30 minutes of the episode. Josh confesses his heart was pounding during the invasion of Margot Al-Harazi and thought about how compelling it was. He thinks it’s an exciting episode which is punctuated by the amazing death of Margot. Now Josh has to go back and update his vulture list of the “24 Best Jack Bauer Kills” because this episode is definitely on there. Rob asks Josh if the episode ranks in the Top 10 and Josh said it is definitely on the Top 20. Rob is a bit bummed out that they didn’t have the balls to kill off President Heller. Josh actually suspected that President Heller was alive. The silent clock was a big telltale sign. Other signs would be that you don’t get to see Jack’s perspective of Heller’s demise, Chloe is messing around with the drone technology, and Jack is disagreeing with Heller’s plan to kill himself. Josh recognizes the fact that Heller can cheat death and this is a historical fact on 24. Rob asks if Josh thinks it’s a dishonest storytelling considering they trick the audience into thinking that Heller is dead but he really is not dead but it’s only revealed after a week later. And Rob feels this is a cheat on the part of the TV show. Margot Al-Harazi is dead at the moment. Jack threw her out of the window and Rob was wondering if Jack really had to do that. Josh simply thinks it’s awesome and cool. It was the end of the road for Ian Al-Harazi as well. Steve Navarro has gone crazy on this episode and Rob thinks it’s just fun to see him squirm. Kudos to Ian Al-Harazi for figuring out what was going on and Josh thinks it’s a good quick edit job done by Chloe. Josh thinks Ian is speaking for the audience considering that he was second-guessing Margot all season long and asking her if she’s really sure about destroying all the drones. Josh is pumped with Belichick and Bauer, his favorite, new combo on 24. Belichick is a good friend (although Jack claims he doesn’t have friends) and he doesn’t take orders from the US President because he is not an American citizen anyway. Rob and Josh talk about the devil side of Jack Bauer being the love mole in the classic Boudreau situation. Now back at the house, Margot Al-Harazi is just totally pissed and there is one drone left and they’re gonna make it count. They’re bringing it to the Waterloo Station which is the biggest train station in London. If you were Margot Al-Harazi, would you go for maximum loss of life or go for a bigger landmark instead like the Big Ben? Josh thinks both of these work, basically depending on what she’s after – a symbolic victory if she goes for the landmark; while getting more innocent deaths on her hand is also better. The hosts assume that Adrian Cross is a legitimate Chloe fan. Rob is wondering what Chloe sees in Adrian who is just so creepy, and Josh thinks Chloe just likes the Brits or she simply has a bad taste in men. Steve Navarro didn’t get killed in the fake out decoy plan and Rob thought that would’ve been a good plan being able to kill two birds with one stone had he been killed back there. Erik Ritter is back and the hosts are pretty glad “Purple Erik” is back. Rob says that the mission here is to take out a gated junction box and Josh says the best way to do that is through a grenade. Kate Morgan definitely has a good aim. Jack ends up landing the helicopter up on the roof while Kate Morgan and Erik are in a big fire fight. Josh basically just likes everything about the episode, mentioning this is one of the best action sequences on 24. Josh really thought that Margot was really gonna kill Ian when she points a gun on him but that didn’t happen though. Rob actually thought Ian was gonna turn around and kill Margot instead. Credits to Jack for driving the missile into the water. While Kate and Erik are still fighting, Jack lowers himself like Batman. Josh thinks this is the thing that makes him Jack Bauer. Nine hours ago Jack is the wanted guy and now people are taking orders from him. Well, what Jack wants, he gets. Josh says Belichick is the Madonna of mercenaries. The hosts are actually surprised to see Jordan Reed not making it out alive. It didn’t make sense that Jordan got killed by Steve Navarro. Chloe calls Jack and gets in the car with creepy Adrian Cross. Rob likes how Steve Navarro is totally nosy about Bauer. It was a fun scene. We all know Steve is the mole. Rob asks if Audrey has to be blamed for the bad things happening to Jack. Josh thinks that Jack really has to ignore Audrey’s call. It was an alpha move for Jack. Jack comes in and Steve unfortunately gets away. Josh is disappointed that Jack couldn’t track down Steve. Chloe and Adrian doing a make out scene is totally creepy. The hosts take questions from the audience: Why Double Cross alters his voice when he’s on the phone The over/under of Chloe surviving this season If we can officially call Jack out of control with the lady stark shot-put If they like the fact Erik is back If Jack is too far gone to be a CIA agent again and ever fit like he was before If the season is gonna finish in America and a time jump is going to happen can 24 do the death fake out no silent clock trick again If the open cell is going to start a war between China and the US (hopefully not in real life) There are only 3 episodes left on 24 and Josh is sad the season is gonna end soon. He thinks the season has gone really fast although the last couple episodes have really picked up the pace. Not really moving as fast as he wanted in the early part of the season but right now it’s full speed and he’s loving it! 24: Live Another Day Review: 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Recap Subscribe to Post Show Recaps [saf] Subscribe to the 24 podcast feed in iTunes

With hindsight being 20/20, was it the right call to send out Simone to talk with Navid’s sister? How badly did Mark Boudreau play it with Audrey tonight? What is going to happen when Mark Boudreau meets with the Russians? How will this turn out bad for Jack Bauer? Is it possible that Jordan Reed is also a mole? What actually went down in Rask’s organization? Who is Nils? Was Nils actually an informant for the CIA? Is Nils dead? Where did Jack get the $200,000 that was in the bank account? What was in the bucket that they dumped on Kate Morgan when she was being tortured? Was it gasoline or something worse? How awesome was Kate Morgan at killing those guys after she escaped the torture? What will happen to Belichek? Is Jack going to get blamed for the casualties taken by the British intelligence agency? Is everybody in Navid’s family just a glutton for punishment? Will Simone survive getting hit by a bus? What happens next for Jack Bauer now that we’ve reached the halfway point? Josh understands Season Eight’s bad reputation, but believes there’s a unique way of looking at it that makes it very enjoyable. What’s the secret to loving Day 8? What’s the story of Season Eight? How does Jack Bauer come back into the fold for one (almost) final bad day? Season Eight takes place in New York City. As native New Yorkers, how do Rob and Josh feel about the setting? What do the guys think of the new and quasi-improved Counter Terrorist Unit, and what do they think of the staff? Is Freddie Prinze Jr. the worst stunt-casting in 24 history? As Dana Walsh, is Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck on “Battlestar Galactica”) basically just the worst of Kim Bauer meets the worst of Nina Myers? Season Eight introduces President Omar Hassan, played by Anil Kapoor of “Slumdog Millionaire” fame. Why is he one of the weirdest 24 characters ever? Are the guys aware of the Indian 24? Renee Walker comes back for the final season. What’s her story? President Logan returns! What’s his story? After Renee dies, Bauer goes on a killing spree. Do Rob and Josh buy into Jack’s rampage? After all these terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad days, was Bauer destined for a psychotic break? Season Eight ends with Jack Bauer as a fugitive from justice. 24 Season 7 Recap: A Rewatch of 24′s 7th Season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5xesA9P6yc Watch the Show on YouTube Listen to the Podcast: LIVE at 2 pm ET / 11 am PT on Tuesday, April 22nd, Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler look back at 24 Season 7. In this episode Rob and Josh Discuss: Why does Josh loves Season 7 of 24? There was no 24 in 2008, thanks to the writer’s strike. How did the writer’s strike hurt or benefit Season 7? To make up for the yearlong absence of 24, Fox offers up 24: REDEMPTION, a two-hour TV movie set in Africa. What’s the quick take on REDEMPTION? How does it set up Season 7? Does 24: REDEMPTION tell us anything about 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY? Moving onto Season 7, what’s the setup for the season? Goodbye Los Angeles, hello Washington. What does the new D.C. location do for 24? Does it work? Goodbye CTU, hello FBI. Does 24 benefit from losing CTU? How is the FBI portrayed? What does Josh like about these characters? Goodbye Wayne Palmer, hello Allison Taylor. 24 introduces a new, female president into the mix. What’s she like? Is she a strong character? Goodbye Tony Almeida, hello Evil Tony Almeida. The big controversy of Season 7: 24 turns Tony into a villain. Does it work? Do we buy his “resurrection,” and do we buy the character as a villain? Hello Renee Walker. 24 introduces its best female lead yet. Why is Renee so awesome? Hello Larry Moss, and goodbye Larry Moss. The head of the FBI is one of Josh’s favorite characters this season, and one of his all-time favorites. Why? And how does he die? Goodbye Bill Buchanan. Pour one out for the longest-running head of CTU. Why does Josh like Bill’s death so much? Hello Jon Voight. The Oscar-winning actor is the big bad of Season 7, and it’s great. Enough said? Some of the characters really don’t work, including Billy Walsh from “Entourage” as the FBI Mole, and Janeane Garofalo as the new Chloe O’Brien. Kim Bauer update. Has 24 finally figured out how to make Kim work? Goodbye Jack Bauer. He spends slightly less than half the day infected with a lethal pathogen, and given a terminal diagnosis. It’s an interesting idea that yields some good moments but doesn’t totally work. What’s good and bad about this? What’s Bauer’s most badass move of the day? MVP? LVP? Where is Season 7 in Josh’s power-rankings? How does this season Setup for Season 8? 24 Season 7 Recap: A Look Back at Day 7 Subscribe to Post Show Recaps [saf]

24 Season 6 Recap: A Rewatch of 24′s 6th Season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fYI76wu6s0 Watch the Show on YouTube Listen to the Podcast: Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler look back at 24 Season 6 to prepare for the premiere of 24 Live Another Day on May 5th on FOX. In this episode, Rob and Josh discuss: Overall, what is season six’s place in “24” history? What are the details of the plot of Season Six? After getting captured by the Chinese, what brings Jack Bauer back into the fold? Why does Josh think 24 Season 6 is the worst season of the show? What is Jack Bauer like after he was imprisoned by the Chinese for two years? How does Wayne Palmer fare as President of the United States? What is the impact of Sandra Palmer, a third Palmer sibling? How do things go horribly wrong with the character of Curtis? Why does 24 bring back Milo from Season 1 of the show? Why is CTU such a disaster this season, filled with interpersonal drama and in-house romances? Is this why CTU gets attacked AGAIN, once again proving itself as the least safe workplace in the entire universe? What do we think of Jack Bauer’s family being introduced — his father, his brother, his nephew and his sister-in-law (who just so happens to be his high school sweetheart) … and it turns out that Jack’s dad and brother are terrorists. “24” has the audacity to pull the trigger on the “Jack’s Dad” storyline, and can’t even cast Donald Sutherland in the role! What role does Charles Logan play in his return to the show? Why do Rob and Josh really like Powers Boothe of “Deadwood” as Vice President Noah Daniels, who becomes President after Wayne’s incapacitated. 24 Season 4 Recap: A Rewatch of 24’s 4th Season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UqLYSyXjNw Watch the Show on YouTube Listen to the Podcast: Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler look back at 24 Season 4. As Rob and Josh prepare for the return of 24: Live Another Day this May, we take a look back at Day 4 for Jack Bauer. In this Episode, Rob and Josh discuss: Season four marks a new era of 24, and an end of the old era. We meet the new blood in Jack’s life: Audrey and Heller. Josh discusses these two crucial characters to the 24 mythos, and both of them central in Live Another Day. We meet several new staff members at CTU: Edgar Stiles, Curtis Manning, Bill Buchanan. Chloe’s has an upgraded role at CTU as well, this is the season where the show starts making a big deal out of her. This season, David Palmer is out at the White House: Charles Logan makes his debut. He’s about to become 24’s new Nina Myers. Jack Bauer meets his toughest villain yet: Habib Marwan. He is ahead of Jack at basically every single turn. One of the all-time most successful villains on 24. This is basically the last season for Michelle and Palmer, and one of the final appearances of Classic Tony. How do they fare in their farewell appearances? A huge part of why season four is excellent is no more Kim Bauer. Kim is gone, so the extraneous stories are gone. Even the stories that are classifiable as “excess baggage” are enjoyable; the season is never boring, even if it doesn’t always make sense. The Bad Stuff: There’s another mole in CTU, but it’s handled quickly. The new CTU director, Erin Driscoll, has a stupid daughter plotline, but it’s handled quickly. Every time the show starts to veer off into “Mountain Lion territory,” it’s handled within a few episodes — and again, it’s rarely boring. The Ending: Jack Bauer fakes his death. I used to think this was the moment that 24 jumped the shark. And then I revisited Kim’s Day 2. This is really no worse than that. But it does signal a shift into an era of 24 that kind of goes off the rails. 24 LIVE: A Look Back at 24 Season 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do7OcGOk4vU Watch the Show on YouTube Listen to the Podcast: Rob Cesternino and Josh Wigler look back at Season 2 of 24 as they continue their season watch to prepare for May’s premier of 24: Live Another Day. Rob and Josh begin by discussing 24 Day 2’s place in history and how it was the first season planned after 9/11. The season had a heavy focus on fears of Islamic Fundamentalist terrorism, treatment of Muslim-Americans and the use of torture (the use of torture in season two is a HUGE jump from season one) Josh starts the recap with Jack Bauer who is reeling from Teri’s death and is bearded, depressed and unemployed. He’s called back into CTU because he has a deep-cover connection with terrorists associated with a plot to detonate a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles at some point during the day. It’s a day of redemption for Jack. Day 2 is also our first day with David Palmer as president. He’s in Oregon on a fishing trip with his son when it begins. Then he learns about the nuke and it’s full-on. As if that’s not bad enough, he learns that there are people within his administration conspiring to take him down. By the end of the day, the conspiracy reveals itself: The Vice President, with the help of Palmer’s chief of staff Mike, invoke the 25th Ammendment and remove Palmer from office. Palmer eventually gets the job back, shortly before he’s poisoned by Mandy in the season-closing scene. Rob and Josh discuss the Kim Bauer storyline and how infamously bad it was. Josh rehashes Kim’s argument with her abusive employer, fleeing from the police, being chased by a cougar and being captured by Johnny Drama in one day. Rob and Josh spend a lot of time talking about the reasons why there was such a backlash over the cougar scene with the fans of the show. One of the highlights of the season is the four-episode arc with Nina Meyers. She knows stuff about the bomb so Jack needs to call her in. These episodes are great. Josh thinks its really cool to see Nina “without the mask on”. While most of the attention was focused on Jack or Kim with the cougar, Josh thinks George Mason’s storyline was one of the best. George Mason was able to get his redemption after getting a death sentence from a radiation leak. With only having a few days to live, George was able to save Jack’s life by flying the plane with the nuclear weapon on it and detonating it over the desert. In the romance department, Kate Warner is “the love interest” of the day, kind of. Her sister ends up being a terrorist, and you can see that twist coming miles ahead if you have ever exposed yourself to a mystery story before. Also, Papa Warner is played by Jack’s dad from Lost. Josh cites Jack Bauer’s Most Badass Move of the Day: A toss-up between “I’m going to need a hacksaw,” and the time that he died but got brought back to life and then proceeded to run around for four more hours before having a heart attack while breaking a dude’s neck.
