5 Minutes a Game

by Keith Kurak

I've only got 5 minutes to tell you about a great (or maybe not so great) video game, so here we go! It might be an old game or a new game, it'll probably be something I've played enough to actually talk about semi-competently.

Episodes

  1. Kid Cameleon

Listen to me ramble vaguely for 3.5 minutes about the misunderstood aesthetics of Kid Cameleon and then proceed to rush though the important details.

  2. Tetris 99

I should probably stop playing this game but I can't stop just one more round I promise it's the last one

  3. Dragon Quest IX

For a series as, well,. *seasoned* as Dragon Quest, this game is both a throwback and an evolution in all the best ways. Highly recommended if you want something short (but not too short) on narrative and long (but not too long) on systems.

  4. Xenoblade Chronicles X

Curse that dumb dog barking in the background during my explanation of an awesome open world RPG that many of us will never get to play.

  5. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

An overlooked action RPG with really tight controls, a big island to explore, and tons of jRPG tropes that get occasionally subverted in really bizarre ways.

  6. Final Fantasy 12

Quite possibly the best Final Fantasy to play right now, A game that perhaps flew a little too close to the sun, but I love it all the more for that.

  7. Sonic Mania

The triumphant return of Classic 2D Sonic has been my most-played game for the last 400+ days and counting.
