Do you think of God, of Jesus, as encouragers? And … do you consider yourself to be an encourager? Is an encourager someone who naturally unites? Let’s answer these questions as we explore Colossians 2:1-5.

Have you ever felt burned out? How many athletes, performers, politicians – and just about anyone – burn out and flame out? Perhaps they have not yet learned to combine their efforts with the power of the Holy Spirit.

In Colossians 1:21-22 we are told that when we are born again God sees us as “holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.” Can that really be true?  Holy and blameless???

Did you know Jesus put his betrayer, Judas, in the Guest of Honor seat, and Peter in the Dunce seat? What was he – deliberately - teaching them and us by his carefully planned seating arrangements?

Could Jesus be just the best, greatest, most wonderful human ever – and not necessarily fully God? What does it matter or even mean to you if he as fully God and fully man? Is that even possible?

Throughout the New Testament, we see that Jesus was not just the Son of God, but all creation was by him, for him, and through him. What does this mean to you, and the way you live your day-to-day life?

The Holy Spirit, through Paul, says we have to be rescued from the “dominion of darkness.” Do you think you need to be rescued, or do you just need a little “polishing up?” 

In Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he prays that “God will fill them with the knowledge of his will.”  Does this mean we can know God’s will??  Yes … and no. Stay tuned to learn the difference! 

The Apostle Paul says this as he starts the letter of Colossians: “ … the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven ….”  What if your hope – your confident expectation – was so strong that it served as a springboard from which your faith and your love bounced … catapulted … forward?

Jesus warns us to “Watch out for false prophets.” But what would a false prophet look like today? Would they be preaching heretical sermons … or lukewarm … or just uninformed?

Jesus tells us the gate to his wonderful A+ Life to the Full is narrow. And he warns us that the road that leads to a sorrow life is wide and broad. What is on the broad road that makes it so appealing, and why is the gate to  “The Life that is truly life” so narrow?

Did you know that Jesus’ Golden Rule was a reversal of the centuries-old Golden Rule? Previously if was, “Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you.”  Jesus told us to go from defense to offense by doing to others what we want them to do to and for us.

What comes to your mind when you think of God? In your mind, is he a “Bread and Water” God or a God of lavish gifts and love?  Is he a happy God? Was Jesus a happy man?

When Jesus says, “Ask and you will receive,” is this a carte blanche guarantee?  Or is he assuming his audience would understand a more nuanced meaning?  And – is ‘asking’ what prayer is all about?

If the phrase, “Saying ‘Yes’ to anything means saying ‘No’ to something or someone else,” is true, where have you said “Yes” to some activity that you now regret? What do you now see that got squeezed out because you said “Yes”? For example:  exercise, time with Jesus, time with your family??

Did you know the Hebrew word for “hear” is the same word as “obey”? Jesus asked many times, “Are you listening with your heart as well as your head? Is what I am saying sinking in? Is it making a difference in your life?” How would you answer Jesus if he asked you the same questions?

When a couple is getting married the man typically thinks he is adding an addition to his house (i.e. his life). But the woman thinks, “We are going to have a whole house renovation for our new lives together.” When it comes to our walk with Jesus, we tend to think the same way as the man. But Jesus wants to renovate our whole lives, not just be added on as an addition.
