8ball Mixography
by Space Cowboys
Hello Friends, I'm 8ball (JDW, Josh Damon, Josh). I started DJing in the 90s at SF underground parties and on the playa. I played mostly drum n bass at first, but quickly expanded genres—breaks, disco, hip hop, funk, sleaze, electro, and all sorts of stuff in-between. I'm one of the original members of the Bay Area arts and music collective, Space Cowboys.Nuv8 is a side project I use now and then for mixing ambient, experimental, and leftfield stuff, including some originals. 8Ball RIPEcast - Return To Earth
This week on The RIPEcast, it's our own DJ 8Ball with one of his signature, marathon dance mixes (2 hours plus) inspired by our "Return to Earth" post-Burn party at Monarch a while back. Enjoy. For more information on 8Ball visit: www.facebook.com/8ballxjoshdamon Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

8Ball RIPEcast - Happy Unimog 40th
The Mog's heard a lot of DJs play a lot of music genres over the years, but there's one style that it always comes back to -- breaks. Yep, when the Mog made the bold decision to give up its profession as a gainfully employed radio truck and pursue its dream of becoming the playa's very first mobile DJ sound system, it did so marching to a broken beat. The year the Mog turns 40, and while it may be getting a little long in the sprocket it still hasn't lost its passion for fat nasty basslines with an amen! So to celebrate its birthday, I'm giving the Mog the next best thing to a pony. Here's 40 tracks (and a few more for good luck) of breaks, new and old, including many the Mog heard for the first time on vinyl back when it was rockin Technic 1200s in the DJ booth instead of CDJs. Happy Birthday Mog! - 8Ball For more information on 8Ball visit www.facebook.com/8ballxjoshdamon

8Ball x Josh Damon - Spring Forward Lean Back
**Spring Forward Lean Back** Chill trap, electro R&B, and other head music I've been collecting and listening to lately, usually in the spaces between getting out of bed and arriving at my desk, and sometimes the reverse. There are some new sounds, some old sounds, some old sounds made new again.

Josh Damon aka 8Ball From BoC 2014
Bassline, breaks, jackin house, and garage -- who'd wants some? Well, me personally speaking, I could go for a bit of that. So could a tent full of dance-crazed maniacs during my set at Breakfast of Champions this year. And hopefully the rest of you tuning in to this week's RIPEcast will find this mix taken from our infamous New Year's Day party suitably enjoyable as well. As per usual, all tracks are re-edited, re-touched, and re-loved by me, Josh Damon aka 8Ball, in an attempt to bring calm and order to the fractured and frenzied attention span that is mine. Hope you enjoy! 8B You can find Josh Damon aka 8Ball's mixes here: https://soundcloud.com/spacecowboys/sets/8ball-mixography Also http://twitter.com/joshdamon http://instagram.com/joshdamon

8Ball - TIMF & Ghost Ship Mix 2013
Great seeing everyone (and we do mean EVERYONE!) at Ghost Ship last weekend. This week's RIPEcast features one of the Space Cowboy originals, DJ 8Ball. 8Ball sez: "It's been a while since I've recorded a long mix like this, but with a busy October of gigs at Ghost Ship, Treasure Island Music Festival, Monarch, and more I found myself neck deep in new music. Rather than let it all get left behind in the rush to the holidays, I decided to press record and share it with you. Our +2hr 30min journey will begin in the low 120s BMP as it winds through glitter dappled neon hills of Nu Disco berg, detouring through the bassline laced outskirts of Garageistan, eventually reaching speeds of 135bmp before arriving at our final destination of Breakslandia. Hope you enjoy the ride." 8Ball - Deckless Wonder Vol. 7 (March 2009)
My first recorded mix of 2009, finished just before my birthday. Originally I was trying to crank out new mixes on a monthly basis, but that was before I started playing with loops, samples, effects, and such—all stuff that I tweaked and tinkered with for weeks for this latest mix. Hopefully my turn around time for making this sort of labored mix will go down, but until then listen up to DW7.

8Ball - DnB in the Sunshine (April 2009)
Here’s another tasty portion of mostly drum and bass (with a handful of other ingredients layered into the sandwich like bacon and peperoncini). The inspiration for this one is that big bright thing that coincidentally showed upright when the weather started getting real nice.

8Ball - Sunless SF Summer Dubstep Mix (June 2009)
Here’s a dark, bottom-heavy mix that’s perfect for winter weather, otherwise known as summer in San Francisco. Recommended use for this one is to drop it in your iPod to use as a soundtrack while walking around in this gloomy, over cast weather. And before you ask—Yes, Butthole Surfers counts as dubstep. Because I say so.

8Ball - Electro Con Carne Vol. 3
This mix puts the EEK in cheeky. If you’re in a pissy mood, don’t put on—It’ll just make it worse. I’ve thrown in crunchy underground electro sounds, a sarcastic rock and roll falsetto, robot squeaks, and hiphop. Worse, it’s got more than it’s fair share of shameful pop remixes. I mixed it mainly for my runs, but I could see it as the soundtrack to a multi-generational wedding reception as long as everyone was deaf. I nicked a lot of the tracks from palms out sound and disco workout mp3 blogs.
