This friday on Fancy New Band we were very lucky to welcome in Just Janie Into the studio!  Just Janie is a Ōtutahi based indie-folk musician who has just realesed her debut album 'Mythology of the Girls'. During the segemt Janie explained that this is a concept album, "A reaction to nostalgia through a modern lens, the album pays homage to the folk scene of the late sixties and early seventies and deconstructs the rose tinted perspective for the era where women faced a myriad of societal limitations." The songs Janie has written for this album are so well thought out and magical, this is a Fancy New Band you dont want to miss ! Thanks to NZ On Air!

Today's Fancy New Band is Merlia de Ridder! Merlia de Ridder is a pop folk artist who heavily brings elements of classical roots and swingy jazz.  Merlia played an amazing set this morning showcasing two tracks! one being her latest single 'Sicily' which came out in march this year aswell as her next single 'Magic Women'!  Thanks to NZ On Air 

For this weeks Fancy New Band we were lucky to welcome CAITLIN into the studio as she finishes her last show of her nation wide tour!   CAITLIN is a Te Waipounamu-born, Ōtautahi-based indie-pop singer-songwriter who has been on a roll this year! Today she played 'Wash' and 'Tied' which are both off her newest EP Guardrails! Thanks to NZ On Air!

For Fancy New Band today Huia had Moonwoven come into the studio!  Moonwoven Is a genre/gender bending local band, they switch instruments and their sound depending on each song. Today on Fancy New Band we were able to have a taste of three tracks off of their upcoming ep that was anounced on the show !  Thanks to Nz On Air !

Today we had Olivia Reeves come in for Fancy New Band!  Olivia Reeves Is a young independent indie/rock artist from Tāmaki Makaurau who has worked her way through the competition sphere; Winning solo/duo for New Found Sound and being a two time finalist for Play It Strange!  Her set today was unlike anything else we've heard from her as she leans into are more heavy yet catchy guitar sound. Today for Fancy New Band we had Pretty Grim come in to play! Pretty Grim is a local indie rock/grunge band that has been gigging in Tāmaki Makaurau for the past few years. Earlier this year they realesed their first single 'Pill Cutter' that was completely recorded, mixed and mastered in their own home. After a hiatus following their first release in 2019, Young Baptist are back with new material. The Tāmaki Makaurau four-piece is comprised of vocalist and guitarist Hugo Collins, drummer Emlyn Williams, Tim Burrows on lead guitar, and Nico Fitzpatrick on bass.
