Since we’re too cheap to buy the premium survey features we are making due with what we’ve got so that means you have to pick at least 1 movie from each question, and at most 5 from each. So you need to pick 2 to 10 movies we should consider re-ranking. Use the comment boxes to explain yourself.   If this survey is too clunky for you, just find Scott and message him your picks.   Or DM us on Twitter, Instagram or FB: https://twitter.com/9to5cc https://www.instagram.com/9to5/ https://www.facebook.com/9to5dotcc   Meanwhile over on Garbage Time, we talk about (obviously) Marvel Snap, but we also talk about God of War Ragnarok and reminisce quite a bit about Earthworm Jim.   If all that sounds like the best (because it is), show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time!   Credit Where Credit is Due Our intro song is a brand new jam cooked up by OKU-DA just for us, do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud).     The post 9ES279: More Disruptive Than Political appeared first on 9to5 (dot cc).

    9ES278: It’s All Billy

The Montreal podcast that would easily collect an entire deck of cards in Alice in Borderland Season 2 is back with another podcast for your ears. I’ve always had a soft spot for some deathmatch based fiction. From Running Man to Battle Royale to Death Race 2000 (to name some of my favorites). There is something immediately gripping about watching contestants face off to the death. There’s something even more compelling when the game is not just about killing your opponent but about besting them in some other game of skill or wits but someone’s life is still on the line. Dark? Sure, but boy will it glue me to the television set. The collective zeitgeist also apparently agrees, considering the megahit that was Squid Game. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer the two seasons of Alice in Borderland over Squid Game. Of course Squid Game has a lot more to say about class division and the wealth gap but Alice in Borderland has cool anime style characters being cool. Somehow the challenges of Alice in Borderland (and the fact that there is no clear end game/reward for clearing the games) pulled me in. It’s a lot less bleak in that sense. They’re just stuck in there playing these games. Speaking of games, how about that Dungeons & Dragons, eh? Boy, Hasbro must be excited that a new trailer for the movie dropped to push down all those news articles about them mucking about with their Open Game License. Hell hath no fury like a bunch of angry nerds scorned. Let’s quickly go through the list of times a mega-corporation has meddled with something beloved and made it better. 1) … Moving on. There’s still plenty of time to let us know what movies you want to see get re-ranked on The List so please let us know your picks using this handy little survey. Since we’re too cheap to buy the premium survey features we are making due with what we’ve got so that means you have to pick at least 1 movie from each question, and at most 5 from each. Seriously, why isn’t Jon playing Marvel Snap yet? We also talk about tires and lightbulbs so you know it’s a good one. 9ES277: There Should Be No Parties

The Montreal podcast that waited until the beginning of 2023 to talk about some 2022 movies is back to bring you hot takes on films that came out last year!   Keith spent part of the holidays crossing movies off his “I should watch this” list which meant that he finally got around to seeing:   Weird: The Al Yankovic Story The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent The Menu Glass Onion   And so that is more or less what this episode is about. We don’t rank any of these films though. We’ll probably rank Glass Onion next week.   There’s still plenty of time to let us know what movies you want to see get re-ranked on The List so please let us know your picks using this handy little survey. 9ES 276 – 2022 in Review

The best geek and pop culture podcast in Montreal takes a look back at the year that was 2022. It’s 2022 in Review! We talk all about the movies, music, television shows, video games and comics that we’ve consumed this year like hungry, hungry nerd hippos. Apparently having a very young human to take care of really slowed down Jono’s consumption of crap this year, but I guess he also read a lot of that blog about airplane crashes so who can blame him? Scott actually got to see some new movies this year so I guess after like a decade or whatever of being a dad he is finally starting to have some time to himself. Unfortunately there is no new episode of Garbage Time this week, instead we just made the main episode of 9ES a full 90 minutes. So it’s like the normal episode AND Garbage Time all at once! If you still want to show your support just head on over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen all past episodes of Garbage Time! 9ES275: A Business Model

Montreal’s kooky and spooky podcast makes like Wednesday Addams on Netflix and rehashes some of our greatest hits for your entertainment. That means we talk about crypto stuff again as Jon brings us up to date with the whole SBF/FTX thing. Between the time we recorded this episode and now it’s been revealed that SBF faces something like 165 years in prison. That’s what I call “a sticky situation.” What’s crazier? That BitCoin is actually trending UP. To quote OKUDA (who provides our theme song): “Crazy, I wonder what the logic is…some kinda hedge against these stablecoins that are about to become un-pegged? Or because Binance needs to sell a bunch of its assets to cover the USDC withdrawals that it paused? It’s madness no matter how you slice it.” . Madness indeed OKUDA. Madness indeed. No 9ES This Week

Montreal’s best podcast is… not happening this week. Sorry friends. Due to some scheduling issues we’ll be running 3 back-to-back episodes over on Go Plug Yourself instead. However, if you subscribe to our Patreon, there is still an episode of Garbage Time! It’s almost a full episode of 9ES, but it’s just for the Patrons. We talk about the documentary “Kings of Coke” (a film about Montreal’s West End Gang that I just got to interview the director of, Julian Sher), a little about Marvel Snap and then we run through a list of the “27 Best Canadian Bands” from Music Grotto. There are some oversights on this list and we get into that too. If you want to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time. we’d really love a lot. 9ES274: We All Are

Montreal’s favorite financial advice podcast returns with all of the hot takes you’ve come to expect surrounding the fallout of the FTX Crash.   In the past few days we’ve had a couple of conversations about crypto.   Is crypto: A game that someone was always going to break? A lot like the comic book book of the 1990s? A fancy modern pyramid scheme? The future of currency?   Hard to say.   We don’t really get into it in this episode but the whole FTX crash thing is also rife with conspiracy. Maybe we’ll get into it next time. Or maybe we won’t.   There’s still plenty of time to let us know what movies you want to see get re-ranked on The List so please let us know your picks using this handy little survey. 9ES273: Still Waiting For The DVD Money

Montreal’s best podcast talks about what it might mean that Elon Musk now owns Twitter.   Imagine having enough money to buy something for $44 billion dollars. Man, something costing $44 billion dollars should be illegal.    Avengers: Endgame made a little under $3 billion. Is Twitter like 15 times more valuable than Avengers: Endgame? I know which one I’d rather own.   We get pretty into DVD releases vs streaming releases and what kind of a second life a film can get once it leaves the cinema. Honestly one of our liveliest debates of the show in recent memory.   Because we love cinema.   So much so that we rank it. Then for some reason Scott decides that Age of Ultron is his favorite Marvel movie. He doesn’t read these blurbs so this statement will never be rebutted.. 9ES272: Chips

Montreal’s best podcast remembers that technically this is our Halloween 2022 episode so we kind of talk mostly about spooky movies.   And also spooky international trade wars between the United States and China.   SpooOoOOooky.   Last episode, we talked about the upcoming Re-Rank of some movies on the list, this episode we talk about it again. We will probably talk about it for the next few episodes and get around to the whole re-rank thing around the winter holidays.   If you, yes you, want some movies to get re-ranked please let us know your picks using this handy little survey. Since we’re too cheap to buy the premium survey features we are making due with what we’ve got so that means you have to pick at least 1 movie from each question, and at most 5 from each. Spooky stuff.   “My Bloody Valentine” is criminally underrated. I think it has worked it’s way into the annals of horror cult cinema but it should probably be propped up a lot closer to the Last House on the Left and Friday the 13ths of this world than it currently is. The fact that it is a Canadian film that is plainly filmed in Nova Scotia is just a delightful bonus. Bottles of Moosehead… everywhere.   There was a lot of backlash surrounding “Hocus Pocus 2” (The Hocus Pocusing) but honestly, it was fine. The original was not that great, and nothing in the sequel seemed that out of touch with the campiness of the original. That said “Hocus Pocus” was never really one of my childhood movies. To some people maybe this feels like the Star Wars prequels. I dunno.   We keep the spookiness rolling in this week’s episode of Garbage Time. We go over some of our Spooky Season go-tos and talk about what movies and TV shows we tend to gravitate too every October. We also have some killer (*dramatic organ music*) podcast recommendations like The Old Gods of Appalachia and The White Vault. 9ES271: I Don’t Have To Make It For An Audience

Montreal’s best podcast reviews Clerks 3 and returns to our roots so this episode of 9ES is filmed entirely in grainy black and white film.   The original Clerks holds a very near and dear place in the heart of all 3 9ES podcaststers. I say with very little exaggeration that Clerks changed my perception of movies. Clerks came out in 1994 – I’m not sure when I first saw it but I’m guessing it was probably 1997. At that point I was about 14 years old and the concept of “independent film” was pretty foreign. Indie flicks were all (in my mind) artsy snooze fests.   Then this black and white movie came around about slackers talking about Star Wars.   I was a slacker.   I loved Star Wars.   Somehow, despite the fact that Kevin Smith has arguably lost his way as a filmmaker in the last 15-20 years, he manages to do right by Randall and Dante and give them a pretty heartfelt send-off in Clerks 3. It’s a fun flick.   We also talk about World War 1 Canadian flying aces.   Important: We are hatching a plan to re-rank some of the mistakes of The List – and we want you to be a part of it! If helping us re-rank some movies seems fun to you, please stay tuned here and on our socials for instructions how we best figure out how to get you involved. Love U.   While we did conquer our overall audio issues from last week we were not entirely without technical failures this week. Scott’s computer decided it needed to update itself right fucking now and the result is that we had a little less time than usual for Garbage Time.   That doesn’t mean we didn’t dig up some high quality Garbage Time content for you though. We go over 14 Totally Bonkers Moments From Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Universe compiled by T.W. Mitchell over at Ranker.Com for hot takes on Frank Miller’s horrible take on the Caped Crusader. It’s goddamned Garbage Time. 9ES270: We Fired The Sound Guy

Montreal’s best podcast has the worst sound quality!   Seriously, before we kick things off we would obviously like to take a moment to acknowledge the abysmal sound quality of this episode. What is this, 2012? Basically we lost some of the “good” sound files and are forced to present you with some mutant Frankenstein backup version of the recording.   The content is still there though. We have to believe in the content.   There is so much content.   The theme of the show this week is drama.   Drama about shipping people in planes from Texas to Massachusetts, drama about chess Grand Masters possibly getting chess tips over the air via remote controlled anal beads in their butt and drama about one of hip-hop’s highest selling artists getting into a beef with an internet music critic.   Also Queen Elizabeth II died. We speculate whether or not Canada should cut ties with the UK and Scott brings up the idea that as a Canadian citizen you can go to a British embassy when you’re traveling abroad as a fun perk.   According to VisaPlace Canada has about 145 embassies and 185 Consulates across the world. The UK has 162 embassies and 185 consulates and 33 “other representations”.   Not a bad perk to more than double the number of places you can go to if you are proper fucked in another country.   This week’s episode of Garbage Time is yet another ultra special garbage spectacular! This week we take a look at the wonder that was Burt Sugarman’s “Midnight Special” before talking about some television shows that we’ve been watching like Sandman, Hacks and Harley Quinn, we also talk a little about BrightBurn. 9ES269: Thank Goodness For Heathers

We kick this episode off by talking about the CFO of Bed Bath and Beyond throwing himself out of a window to his death and the resulting ripples of armchair investors trying to recreate the magic of GameStop and navigate just what that suicide might mean for the stonk.     We then move on to what’s really on people’s minds right now: The Netflix adaptation of Sandman.   Now listen, I enjoy most of Neil Gaiman’s work. But I never really got heavily invested into Sandman. My old roommate had most of them so I occasionally read an issue or trade here and there but it never really clicked for me. And while I can recognize its place as an important fixture in the increased popularity of “alternative” comics I’m still not sold on it’s overall quality.   That said, the show is pretty enjoyable.   A part of me is watching it to do my small part to let Netflix know that they should continue to take risky projects and I hope Sandman gets a second season and somehow it also means that Cowboy Bebop comes back too.   This week’s episode of Garbage Time is yet another ultra special garbage spectacular! We apply our scientifically and peer tested list-making methodology to the Saturday Night Live films and rank them from best to worst. Spoiler-alert: they are mostly all the worst. We spend a lot of time trying to determine if Coneheads is funny and whether or not Blues Brothers deserves to be so well regarded. 9ES268: Stop Going To See Avatar

The Montreal podcast that seems to be more interested in watching bad movies than good ones is back to talk about 2 movies you probably should not watch and 1 movie that you really should. There is something deeply wrong with the fact that Jon willingly subjected himself to the lowest ranked movie on The List and not the critically acclaimed Number 1 movie on streaming services. I was never fully a Predator guy. I mean, the first two came out before I was a teenager and then “Predators” came out when I was in my late 20s. So during the formative years of my movie watching there were only two Predator movies. The first one which was really cool and the second one which was kind of hokey and cheesy.  But as we discuss in this episode, the first Predator (and even it’s shitty sequels to a lesser extent) is kind of an interesting take on typical action movies. It’s one of the rare instances where the heroes need to be really smart to take down the bad guy. No amount of machismo or firepower will take out a Yautja – only a really good plan has a chance. That’s cool. So I’m pretty excited that the franchise finally got a really good entry that actually holds up against the original. The fact that it prominently features an indigenous cast is also delicious icing on the cake of a really well executed film. The Emoji Movie is meh.  Reading about the ongoing saga of T.J. Miller’s broken brain on my phone while reading the movie was probably the most engaging part. This is a brain so broken that it actually held up as a defense against federal charges. Fascinating. This week’s episode of Garbage Time is nearly an hour long! We talk more about Woodstock ‘99 and also run through a list published in 2004 of “The Worst Songs Ever” from the now defunct music magazine “Blender”. We also talk a little about Eric Clapton. We’re full of surprises. 9ES267: The Bombastic Sequel

The Montreal podcast that really wants a Winnebago so that the three of them can just go on a big road trip to South Dakota is back with a brand new episode! Sure we talk a little about some of the scary stuff going on in the world these days but do you know what we also talk about? Prince. Scott brings up a video of Prince suddenly popping out of the shadows during George Harrison’s posthumous induction as a solo artist into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 (he was already in as a Beatle) and emasculating Tom Petty, do yourself a favour and check it out. Prince absolutely steals the show, much to the delight of Dhani Harrison (who holy crap is the spitting image of George). While you’re doing yourself favours also look up Crazy Horse and the Crazy Horse Monument being carved in South Dakota. Both are dope. After weeks of dancing around the topic, all three of us have finally watched all of Stranger Things 4. We talk about our overall impressions, stuff we liked, didn’t like, fan theories and in a rare twist, we are (mostly) in agreement. Meanwhile in Garbage Time, we talk about the Woodstocks that happened in the 90s and also a little bit about the latest in the Predator franchise: Prey. Both of these will certainly be more heavily spoken about in a main show in the future, so you should get yourself a sneak peak now. 9ES 266: Ernest Shackleton and the 25 Worst Comic Book Movies Ever Made

Why hello there, you’ve caught us in a bit of a predicament. Between the Just for Laughs specials, the Osheaga specials and my planned trip to Winnipeg it seems like we’ve simply run out of time to record a brand new episode of the 9to5 Entertainment System! However, we don’t want to let you down. We know that some of you might still be sitting on the fence about subscribing to the 9ES Deluxe Level over on our Patreon so we’ve decided to give you a taste of what you may be missing. We dug into the vast Garbage Time episode archives to grab two episodes that might just encourage you to subcribe: The episode where Jon gets into details about the Shackleton expedition. If you’re not familiar with Ernest Shackleton well you’re about to be. Never will you feel like an inadequate human being like you will when you hear about how he handled the adversity dealt to him. The episode where Scott and I go through a list of the Worst Superhero Movies Ever Made and to nobody’s surprise we’ve seen almost all of them. If this wonderful content pleases you, do yourself a favor and subscribe to 9ES Deluxe. Otherwise, we still hope you enjoyed this filler episode of the show. We <3 U. 9ES265: Victims Of Bad Sound

The Montreal podcast that is sitting around wondering whether the number of positive Covid-19 cases will spike following the Montreal Jazz Fest continues to record remotely. Are we scared of the virus or are we just really into doing this podcast from the comfort of our own homes? We’ll never tell. The Jazz Fest, despite probably being a super-spreading event, was amazing and Keith went to it a bunch anyhow. I wonder if, when 9ES is eventually taken off the air, we will remember this episode and replace every single episode with just a one-hour long loop of “Killing in the Name Of”? You should be thanking your lucky stars that there even is a new episode out because the Rogers outage happened and maybe all the podcasts were going to get deleted too because of it. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we talk about Stranger Things 4, since we will almost certainly circle back and dissect it once all of us have finished the season but we talk about it a little anyhow because it’s 9ES and that’s what we do. It’s a sci-fi horror show, set in the 80s with strong ties to D&D… what podcast do you think you’re listening to here?   Meanwhile in Garbage Time, we talk about how Warren Ellis is very rightfully canceled now (even though Keith read his take on Moon Knight), Umbrella Academy and whether or not they’re going to remake Superbad..If all that sounds like the best (because it is), show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time!     Credit Where Credit is Due Our intro song is a brand new jam cooked up by OKU-DA just for us, do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud).     The post 9ES265: Victims Of Bad Sound appeared first on 9to5 (dot cc).

9ES 264: Joy Division and Otis Redding

The Montreal podcast that can look at the downfall of civilization and say: “Yes, but what about Clown Core?” Look, we’re not going to sit here and pretend that there isn’t a grievous step backwards in human rights going on with our neighbours to the South. We know it’s happening. You know it’s happening. It’s gross and frankly despicable on every possible level. However, what we are going to do is acknowledge that: You probably don’t need 3 straight white guys telling you about women’s reproductive rights Our show is probably better suited to being a silly distraction than a grim reminder of the horrors of humanity. That said: Please familiarize yourself with Clown Core. Go ahead. We’ll wait.  If you’re debating clicking that link let it be known that the whole “album” (titled of course simply “Van”) is only about 17 minutes long. Anyways, Scott and I have both watched the Obi-Wan Kenobi show in Disney+ and have mixed takes and we also debate where exactly the original “Little Shop of Horrors” sits in the grand horror pantheon. The Sex Pistols are one of those acts that everyone knows about, everyone has an opinion about and are kind of difficult to ignore for their role as one of the most important bands of the last 50 years. That said, Danny Boyle’s “Pistol” is pretty much a must-watch. We dig into the Sex Pistols history and legacy too. We also find time for Dr. Strange, The Boys and how none of us have seen Top Gun yet because we’re afraid of being duped into joining the Navy. Listen, I’m as opposed to the industrial military complex as the next guy but who can deny that Danger Zone slaps? Meanwhile in Garbage Time, we continue to talk about Obi-Wan and Star Wars because we’re huge nerds but we also talk about how Vince McMahon is an absolutely monster. 9ES263: Podcasting Geniuses

I wonder if the real creator of Chip n’ Dale never got his due the same way that Bob Kane ripped off Bill Finger? If you go up to someone on the street and ask them who created Chip and Dale, they would answer “Disney.” I guess the implication would be that it was old man Walt himself. Holy shit. They were created by another Bill. Bill Justice (how was that a real name) created Chip and Dale in 1943. From the looks of it they were his main notable creation too. Sure we worked on a bunch of other super memorable cartoons and even Disney park rides I think old Chip and Dale are the only things that he created from the ground up. While I’m thinking about animated chipmunks I need to tip my hat to Ross Bagdasarian (aka David Saville) for really ripping off Disney and making bank off a good idea. So as far back as their first appearance in 1943 in “Private Pluto” Chip and Dale had that “chipmunk voice.” Sure it was gibberish and not English but it 100% sets up what we think a chipmunk sounds like when it speaks. 15 years later. It’s 1958 and enter Ross Bagdasarian who then takes “chipmunk voice” and records “Witch Doctor” for which he got a Grammy nomination. Later that year he releases “The Chipmunk Song” which paves the way for the Alvin and The Chipmunks. I feel like if that happened today there would 100% be a lawsuit from The Mouse.   Meanwhile in Garbage Time, Jon and Keith were killed in a single round of Dungeons & Dragons and they put all of the blame on the Dungeon Master. We talk about when you should kill a party in an RPG and how maybe you shouldn’t kill a whole party in an RPG.If all that sounds like the best (because it is), show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time! 9ES262: High Quality Slime

You know, it’s kind of a bummer that it is here in episode 262 of our little podcast that we collectively realize that we’ve been wasting our time podcasting instead of producing slime like the people over at PeachyBbies.   Their website asks that you “Join the Movement”. I guess that could be a joke about how their slime wiggles but more likely it is an earnest call to action. Join the PeachyBbies movement everyone and take us to a brave new world filled with delicious smelling non-toxic slime with some plastic crap floating around in it.   We live in the future!   I guess it’s kind of a good thing that 9ES didn’t skyrocket to popularity all those years ago when we started or otherwise there would be a chance that we would have become some kind of small business. If that was the case we would maybe have to shut down our podcast since it was English because of Bill 96.    There’s a school in Kirkland that just announced they are adding a Grade 12 to their program so that students can now circumvent the new language laws governing CEGEPs and that’s kind of cool at least. When there’s a will there’s a way but the will is probably to just move to Ontario.   Keith gets a brand new movie to watch for “Best Movie Ever” and he might only be able to properly review it using the keyboard of his phone.   Meanwhile in Garbage Time, the boys talk about the magic of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl going on otherworldly runs during the Stanley Cup playoffs, AEW’s Double or Nothing (which had not happened at the time of recording) and Keith urges you all to once again watch Yellowjackets. 9ES261: Rise From Her Grave

There is nowhere else you need to go to find hot takes about Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress than a podcast from Montreal featuring 3 white dudes born in the 80s.   We are literally the only people on the planet qualified to talk about this issue. It does beg the question though: Is Napoleon’s uniform more historically important than the dress worn by Marilyn Monroe while she sang “Happy Birthday” to JFK?   Can an article of clothing even be that historically significant?   This is why you listen to this podcast.   Just because it can be written out here to increase the chances of people seeing it: Man the Toronto Maple Leafs are ridiculous.   2005-2012 = zero playoff appearances 2013 = “It was 4-1…” Leafs rally back from a 3-1 deficit in the series against the Bruins and take a 4-1 lead in Game 7… then lololol They miss the next 3 years of playoffs 2017 = They take a 2-1 series lead against the Caps and then lose 3 games in a row to the Caps. 2018 = Here come the Bruins again! Down 3-1 in the series again, the Leafs win game 5 and 6 to push another Game 7! Oh no! 2019 = The Bruins, again? The Leafs are UP 3-2 in the series… just one more win to get out of the 1st round! Nope. Drop 2 in a row. 2020 = Honorary mention: The 8th place Leafs lose to the 9th place Blue Jackets in the 5 game qualifying round, of course they pushed it to 5 games and lost in the 5th. 2021 = The most beautiful collapse of all really… Leafs blow a 3-1 series lead and lose to the Habs in 7. 2022 = Another 1st round exit in 7 games… despite being up 3-2. Dropping 2 games in a row and still not getting out of the first round. So if you count the play-in round of 2020… since 2013 they are an incredible 0-10 when they have the opportunity to win and send a team home. That’s absurd.   Meanwhile in Garbage Time, Keith talks about Rich Aucoin’s incredible live show at Ursa in Montreal and the Shudder Exclusive Series “Cursed Films” and Scott takes another few shots at how old Mike Smith is just for good measure. We also talk about how good that Weird Al biopic might be. 9ES260: 150 Million Years Of Solitude

The Montreal podcast that takes a little bit longer to figure out when Tyrannosaurus Rex and Stegosaurus were alive than you might expect is back. Dinosaur facts!   (More dinosaur facts: I misspelled both “Tyrannosaurus” and “Stegosaurus” while typing them! Feel free to guess how.)   At a certain point in this episode Scott posits that CM Punk is one of the most recognizable wrestlers currently actively wrestling. Listen, Keith owns 4 pieces of wrestling merch and 3 of them are CM Punk branded so you would think he would be ready to avidly agree, but he does not.   Let’s turn to Twitter to measure the global reach of currently active wrestlers even though, as we discuss in this episode, many of these followers might be fake. The Top 4 that we posit have global recognition of active wrestlers are: Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and CM Punk. Let’s see how many followers they have:   Ronda Rousey: 3.4 Million followers CM Punk: 2.7 Million followers Brock Lesnar: 1.4 Million followers Roman Reigns: 4.6 Million followers   Brock is probably hurting since he hasn’t tweeted since 2020 but that’s still a pretty big case for Roman Reigns. A picture of him that he tweeted on April 30th holding the belts had 500 comments, 2000 retweets and 17,000 likes. Nobody else on that list gets close to those numbers.   Then again, he works for a company that his piped in cheers over stadium speakers to try to make it look like people were actually cheering for him a few years ago so maybe this entire exercise has been pointless.   I think it’s also worth noting that Ronda is an absolute abysmal follow on Twitter.   Garbage Time returns this week since we’re all healthy and we reward you for your patience with an extra-long edition of it! A meandering conversation that includes Scott’s takes on “The Batman” and trying to figure out just who “El Muerto” is in the Marvel Universe. No, not the one in the DC Universe. Not sure who we’re talking about? He’s getting a Sony produced movie starring Bad Bunny so you will find out soon! 9ES259: Egg

The Montreal podcast that revels in the celebration of a man-sized bunny stashing eggs around the house is back for episode 259.   We speculate a little here that Easter Bunny might be a pagan thing, but nope, it’s rooted in one of the weird corners of Christianity after all::   “The hare was a popular motif in medieval church art. In ancient times, it was widely believed (as by Pliny, Plutarch, Philostratus, and Aelian) that the hare was a hermaphrodite. The idea that a hare could reproduce without loss of virginity led to an association with the Virgin Mary, with hares sometimes occurring in illuminated manuscripts and Northern European paintings of the Virgin and Christ Child.”   Speaking of figures of legend, Keith found out about “Let Me Solo Her” over the weekend so we spend a little bit of time talking about Elden Ring and the strange tradition of brave players in their underwear fighting bosses by themselves.   We do a pretty good job of explaining why this player is a huge badass but so does this guy on YouTube.   I find the idea of these video game based tiny folk heroes kind of fascinating, and unlike the staged variety (Leeroy Jenkins), Let Me Solo Her is an honest to goodness (video game) hero. Showing up in other people’s games with a pot on his head and helping players defeat the hardest boss in the game.   That shit’s cool man.   Unfortunately, there is no Garbage Time this week. As you can probably tell during the episode Jono is feeling a little below the weather and Scott is just all the way not on the show. We’ll think of something to make it up to you. 9ES258: How Can She

The Montreal podcast that would definitely flaunt a 5 million dollar Pokemon card at Wrestlemania is back with all of the hottest takes on geek and pop-culture.   It was Wrestlemania this past weekend which is the time of year where WWE tries its damnedest to gain wider cultural relevance than usual. The powers that be (aka Vince McMahon) will bend over backwards to try to get casual fans to tune in to the “Showcase of the Immortals” to watch pro wrestling. This year was no different featuring our beloved boys from Jackass and Logan Paul flaunting a 5 million dollar Pokemon card.   Let that sink in for a second, because that’s a lot to take in. That there is a Pokemon card worth over $5M USD. That Logan Paul owns it. That he wore it around his neck like bling at Wrestlemania.   More proof that we live in the dumbest timeline I guess.   Speaking of the dumbest timeline: we devote some time to talking about ‘The Slap” because this is a pop-culture show and one of the biggest celebrities slapping a comedian at The Oscars is the poppiest of pop-culture.   Was Big Willy freaking out on human growth hormones? We will certainly at least speculatethat he might be.   Meanwhile, on this this week’s episode of Garbage Time we get into some of the insane stories surrounding pre-production of Mad Max: Fury Road and we lament whether or not Wesley Snipes’ Blade is directly responsible for the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Show your support, subscriber and check out Garbage Time by subscribing on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier. 9ES257: The Ring

The Montreal podcast that is doing its best not to get Covid-19 is back! Jon was off in last episode due to illness that was not Covid-19 but felt like it, Scott conveniently timed contracting the virus with the off-week for podcasting and Keith is currently living in his home office while he tries not to catch Covid from his wife! Happy 2nd Pandemic-versary everyone!   So yeah, after two years of recording remotely and always talking about the pandemic one of us finally gets to experience it and share their experience with you, the loyal listener.   Keith watched “The Batman” and navigates his way through a mostly spoiler-free appraisal of the latest big screen Caped Crusader, Jono is 150 hours into the latest epic from From Software Elden Ring and because Keith enjoyed Spiderman No Way Home so much he played through the Spiderman game on PS4.   Scott talks about his latest mobile obsession a cool 1st person shooter phone game called “Frag” and Keith once again recommends Ridley Scott and Aaron Guzikowski’s Raised by Wolves which just completed its second season. Watch it if you want some bizarro hard sci-fi android milk blooded wonderment.   Finally, since we recorded this on NHL Trade Deadline Day we talk a little about the moves made by our beleaguered but beloved Montreal Canadiens.   Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Garbage Time is a topic that Jon had researched for the main episode but forgot to mention it since he was having so much fun recording the main deal. Of course we are talking about Ernest Shackleton’s failed expedition to Antarctica, listen now by subscribing on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.     Credit Where Credit is Due Our intro song is a brand new jam cooked up by OKU-DA just for us, do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud). 9ES256: No Impact

It’s probably for the best that we spend most of this episode talking about Spiderman and AEW Revolution because no matter how strong our opinions might be about the Russian invasion of Ukraine we are almost certainly among the worst people to listen to about this particular ongoing tragedy.   I have been doing mental gymnastics to not kind of go into a spiral about the impending possibility of World War 3. How could I possibly watch movies and wrestling and do escape rooms while we teeter on the edge of a global armed conflict?   Well, I try to tell myself that whether I watch Batman tonight or not my actions have nearly no impact on the situation. This isn’t like the pandemic where I maybe have people in my circle who may benefit from honest and open conversations about science. I don’t know anyone who needs convincing that this is a terrible, terrible thing that Russia is doing.   Of course you can (and should, if your means allow) donate to relief efforts. It can be hard to know where to donate, what charities are reputable and where your money is actually going. Charity Intelligence.ca has published a helpful list of some of the most reputable places to send your money along with guidelines about where these charities focus their efforts.   So yes, we do talk about Ukraine a little bit but then we spend the vast majority of the episode talking about Spiderman and the AEW Revolution Pay Per View. Jon has seen neither of those two things so his absence is barely noticeable.   Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about the worst comic book film adaptations ever made. We use ScreenCrush’s list as our reference. 9ES255: What Is It Good For?

Montreal’s favorite geek and pop culture podcast featuring 3 white dudes returns with so much trucker talk this episode should have been recorded on CB radio.   Thankfully the trucker thing seems to be mostly petering out, although I do wonder if we will ever find out just how much of the whole fiasco was orchestrated and funded by our freedom fighting neighbours to the South.   Speaking of fighting for freedom (yooooooo-Joe!), we give you our patented half-informed take on the sparks that might one day be referred to as “The Start of World War 3” as Russia actively invades Ukraine. If you’re wondering why you’re a little “off” these days it might be that we are fully 2 years into a global pandemic AND on the eve of a major armed conflict at the same time.   Just a guess.   We’ve all watched Cowboy Bebop on Netflix now so this is probably the last episode you’ll have to hear us talk about the travesty of its cancellation. If a few thousand more people sign the (probably pointless) petition to save the show over on Change.Org it will be one of the most signed petitions ever.   Petitions!   Scott likes Vox Machina a lot more than Keith does, I guess Jon will be the tie-breaker. Meanwhile, Boba Fett is over and Robert Rodriguez should have been allowed to have more fun. Speeder Vespas forever.   We also get to find out Jon’s final ranking in the Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup v.028 Tournament and he excitedly tells the tale of something involving ziggurats and orbs. .   This week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about Superbowl commercials. We don’t run through all of them don’t worry, instead we go over all the movie and television commercials that aired during “the big game” so that’s kind of fun. 9ES254: Afraid Of Montreal

The Montreal based geek and pop culture podcast that loves driving trucks and playing women’s hockey is back with episode 254. Oh hey, the Olympics are happening.   (For the record, we do neither of those two things).   If I could go on a tangent for a moment here (and despite Jon posting, this is Keith writing) I would like to re-iterate how much fun I have recording these dumb podcasts.   Work has been especially trying for me these last few weeks, so trying in fact that even though it has been less than 48 hours since we recorded this episode, I am struggling to remember what we really talked about. Work has just been draining me of a lot of energy but I remember having a pretty great time recording this thing with Jon and Scott.   Good thing we take notes, eh?   Jon is actively participating in the current Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup v.028 Tournament so you know we got that good-good DCSS content that you crave.   So Jon is playing DCSS which launched in 2006 but is still actively updated even though it looks like it is from the 90s, Keith is playing Return of the Obra Dinn which is a video game from 2018 that looks like it was made in the 80s and Scott is playing Secret of Mana which is actually from 1993.   Video games are cool.   We are from Montreal so we talk about hockey in the form of the Canadian Women’s Olympic team and the NHL Skills Competition and we probably talk more about the dumb trucker convoy than we should.   This week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about sci-fi television, with Scott finally finishing off Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop series and Keith finishing Season 1 of Raised by Wolves. 9ES253: In Space

The Montreal based geek and pop culture podcast that definitely knows more about The Eternals than we do about football is back with episode 253.   Besides Scott, it is fair to say that the 9to5 Entertainment System is not really “dialed in” to the world of the NFL. That said, the Buffalo Bills being kind of a tragic team is one of those things that seems to have made its way into general pop-culture. They’re not quite the New York Jets but they’ve somehow always been that loser team people from Toronto like.   Once again we talk up the Vice wrestling documentary series “Dark Side of the Ring” and get a little into the specifics of the all-time attendance record for a wrestling event. We’re talking of course about the “Collision in Korea” event in 1995 that took place in Pyongyang, North Korea.   We only scratch the surface of the insanity on the episode, do yourself a favour and check out the episode.   Scott somehow seems to think that Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a pretty good movie, but maybe that’s just because he’s a dad and wants his kid to be a Ghostbuster? I dunno man.   Keith talked about The Eternals again on this podcast, even though he already did that on last week’s episode of Go Plug Yourself. But this time we put it on the list so it’s ok.   This week’s episode of Garbage Time is particularly garbage-y… Scott couldn’t make recording since he had a headache so Keith and Jon talk about Spirit Island and some dead celebrities. They also take a look at that study that measured people’s heart rates while watching horror flicks. 9ES252: There Can Be Only One (Podcast)

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast that is definitely trapped in The Matrix and loves Highlander 2 returns for episode 252. I am not sure whether or not we talk about in the main episode or as part of Garbage Time but at one point in the original Matrix Agent Smith says that 1999 was the last time that humans were still thinking for themselves. It was before the machines started thinking for us. That line is probably one of the most prescient things in the whole movie. I wonder how outlandish it was in 1999 to make a prediction that machine driven AIs and algorithms would be able to manipulate how humanity thinks. Anyhow, here we are. We spend almost the entire first half of the episode talking about Matrix: Resurrections and man, what a frustrating film. I don’t think I’ve been so excited by a film’s first act to be so completely let down by the third. It’s maddening. Maybe I’m not in on the joke? Maybe Lilly Wachowski really wanted Warner Bros to lose 100 million dollars and that’s the point? When we decided to subject Jon to Highlander II: The Quickening, I don’t think any of us could have predicted how much he was going to enjoy it. It honestly sounds like one of the greatest cinematic rollercoasters of all time. 2022 is full of surprises kids. If you enjoy 9ES, do yourself a solid and check out our Patreon and subscribe to the “9ES Deluxe” level. On this week’s Garbage Time we discuss some grim Covid-19 implications for the planet and then also run through the superhero films of 2021. 9ES 251 – 2021 Year in Review!

2021 is over and the Montreal geek podcast that isn’t going to say something cheesy like “at least the year is over” because we are afraid of what 2022 might have in store for us is back to review 2021! Spoiler alert: It more or less sucked! However, we do manage to find some positivity and we try to lift your mood a little as we run down our favorite movies, tv shows and news stories from the year that was “Year 2” of a global pandemic. I’m not gonna lie, they just announced another curfew and lockdown here in Quebec and it’s hard to stay positive about anything these days but I really do enjoy making this show with Scott and Jon and it means a lot when someone tells me they listen and dig what we’re doing. That said, we are all trying to keep our chin up and stay afloat here and I really wish you and your loved ones all the best. This sucks guys, hang in there and hopefully this dumb podcast amuses you. It’s weird for me to kind of be speechless but here we are. I just got to believe that at some point all this pandemic shit will be in the rear view for good (until the next one anyhow). Much love. We cooked up a very special episode of “Garbage Time” for our Patreon Subscribers this week, we run through a list of the hottest holiday toys from the late 70s to the 2000s and it’s a lot of fun. 9ES250: Probably A Liger

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast that should probably own more tigers if we want to be featured on Tiger King season 3 is back! Not enough podcasts own enough tigers man. When I first heard that they were releasing a second season of Tiger King, a lot of people probably wondered: “but why?” I, on the other hand, thought that it made perfect sense. When absolutely everyone involved is out of their mind batshit you can just point cameras at them and make season after season of big cat related mayhem. Also featured on this episode is the tale of Porfirio Rubirosa, the well endowed drinker of the Dominican “aphrodisiac” known as Mama Juana. It’s crazy that our children are not learning about this guy in school. Even his wikipedia page reads like the resume of the Most Interesting Man in the World. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he was actually the inspiration for those commercials. Early on in this episode, Keith uses the word “hokum”. 9ES248: I Set My Mind In Motion

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast that thinks Dune’s giant sand worms are cooler than Shang-Chi’s big giant dragons is back another episode. Trust the science. So by all accounts Lowtax was not a great person, probably not even a “good” person. But in a lot of ways that is pretty emblematic of the internet on the whole. It’s filled with not good people. It’s filled with shitty people. Or people pretending to be shitty, which is kind of the same thing. Was he kind of ahead of the curve when it came to predicting that the internet would make you stupid and coming up with a way to monetize that over 20 years ago? Definitely.  When most people were still Asking Jeeves questions at the public computer in the library Something Awful was probably discovering goatse. Let that sink in. Something we don’t really bring up when discussing the Travis Scott Astroworld Tragedy (brought to you in part by FortNite) was that Travis Scott has been charged twice for inciting riots at his concerts. Both times pleading guilty. So his lip service “how could this have happened” apology rings extra hollow. Finally the back half of the show is all about those good-good blockbuster movies. We watched both Dune and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which means we get really nerdy up in here about comic books and sci-fi. Both of them should be up on The List sooner or later. Garbage Time is back this week and we talk a bunch about AEW and then about some movies that were not good or memorable enough to be mentioned on the main show and then we talk about vampires. Vampires are so cool. Check out our Patreon Page and subscribe to the 9ES Deluxe level tier to get access to that primo content. You will love it more than some people love their own parents. 9ES247: Suicide By Roko’s Basilisk

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast that isn’t quite done with Halloween yet talks about spooky stuff for another episode. You know, spooky stuff like the ongoing antitrust lawsuit against Google? The Google antitrust stuff is interesting. Whenever Google (or Amazon… or Facebook… or Apple) get outed for doing sketchy shit I think most of us see it coming from a mile away. Oh, Google has been manipulating the entirety of advertising on the internet for years? Tell me something I don’t know. It’s kind of sad that it only really becomes newsworthy when someone tries to call them to task. Jono does a pretty good job of breaking down exactly what Google was up to but this story is far from over. We recorded this episode on November 1st which meant that most of our movie watching for the last two weeks was dominated by films for the so-called “Spooky Season”. From classics like The Thing and Psycho to new releases like Werewolf Within and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. Also, kids should be allowed to run around screaming on Halloween. If 20,000 people are allowed to go to the Bell Center and scream at men on skates a few times a week then kids can get their scream on when they’re jacked up on candy. There, I said it. Due to some technical difficulties on our part we weren’t able to record the normal episode of Garbage Time this week. Instead we re-posted a classic episode of “9to5 Movie Club” where we watched the film Naked Weapon. If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s great. And you are a Patron and want more Movie Club content, do let us know. Check out our Patreon Page and subscribe to the 9ES Deluxe level tier. You will love it. 9ES246: Dusk Till Dawn Vampires Are Best Vampires

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast that still doesn’t quite understand Dr. Who is back and this time we talk about Squid Game. Among other things. There is something extremely compelling about Battle-Royale style fight to the death media, isn’t there? Hunger Games was a massive mainstream media success and now Squid Game is the biggest show ever on Netflix. If that doesn’t say something about where we are at mentally I don’t know what to tell you. We also really get into another Netflix show and that show is Midnight Mass. I kind of feel like Midnight Mass would have been a lot bigger hit for Netflix if it was quickly (and probably unexpectedly) overtaken by Squid Game but here we are. A slow burn psychological, then supernatural horror is hard to pull off and barring a few incredibly long monologues about the nature of God and death Midnight Mass mostly succeeds. We round out the episode with a few other spooky/thriller things for you to enjoy since I guess this is our Halloween episode. If you want even more good 9ES goodness I would suggest you check out our companion show Garbage Time over on Patreon, on this week’s episode we talk a little about Trailer Park Boys and then Keith grills Jon with surprisingly difficult Dungeon’s and Dragons trivia and Jon (un)surprisingly does very well.To listen to Garbage Time check out our Patreon Page and subscribe to the 9ES Deluxe level tier. You will love it. Keith and Jon two man this very special episode of 9ES.  Those crazy islanders!   Our intro song is a brand new jam cooked up by OKU-DA just for us, do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud). 9ES 245: Jonathan Hemingway

Your favorite three people in Montreal return to the podcasting airwaves to remind you that indeed, Covid-19 is still a thing and if your name is Josh and you live in Alberta you should really be aware of that by now. The world breathed a sigh of relief on Monday that they didn’t even know they were holding in when Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram all suddenly stopped for about 10-12 hours. I don’t even know how Jon heard about this happening since he’s stayed away from those things for years. Jon’s re-watching Seinfeld which may or may not be the Genesis of modern comedy and we figure out how you end up at Bojack Horseman if you go through Arrested Development. Do you remember that great episode of The John Laroquette show where he thought he wrote a really great book? We talk about that episode a bit and quite frankly we don’t even care if you don’t remember it. That’s what this show is. Finally, Keith has been watching Midnight Mass and while the jury is still out boy was Episode 5 a lot of fun. Also, you probably know this but we’ve got a little Patreon going on over there and for every episode of 9ES we publish a companion episode of 9ES Garbage Time. On this week’s Garbage Time we talk about wrestling and D&D as though that wasn’t predictable. Enjoy the show! 9ES244: Relevant

The Montreal podcast that is your number one stop for Machine Gun Kelly news and current events is back with a brand new episode devoted entirely to the world of MGK. For at least a few minutes anyways. At the top of the episode Mr. Machine Gun’s fame and relevancy levels are called into question. His most recent album “Tickets to My Downfall” came out only a year ago and hit #1 on the USA and Canadian charts and was certified Platinum with over 126,000 in record sales and he has a new album due out any day now. He also played Tommy Lee in that movie “Dirt” that I don’t think any of us watched. Enough about him though, we also talk about the Montreal Canadiens because somehow the NHL season is about to start again even though it only seems to have ended a few weeks ago. Keith finally watched Catwoman, a movie that should have been called “A Cat-Woman” as it had nothing to do with the comics, and speaking of comics we talk about The DC villain The Creeper and Marvel’s “What If…” show on Disney +. Since we are experts in lists, we take our critical list making eye to Rolling Stones Top 500 Best Songs of All Time on this week’s episode of Garbage Time, which is available as part of the 9ES Deluxe level over on our Patreon. 9ES243: A Gallon Of PCP

The Montreal podcast that has so much to say about so little is back once again with all kinds of fun talk about some talented celebrities who have passed away recently like Trevor Moore and Michael K. Williams! That’s a bummer, don’t worry, things pick up when we transition over to a casual discussion about opioids and the lack of justice for those who have perpetrated one of the great crimes of our lifetimes! Things brighten up when we talk about Todd Phillips’ 2019 movie “Joker”. *checks notes* There’s got to be something uplifting in this episode. Let’s see here. I guess the work of Alexandra Elbakyan releasing scientific knowledge free of charge to the scientific community at large is a feel good story, right? Although that does spiral into the current state of privatized and monetized research which is what lands us in that opioid talk in the first place. Oh, here it is, Keith watched a Slap Fight pay-per-view! That’s fun and… he felt mildly concerned for the health and well-being of the competitors as they slapped the shit out of each other in the conference room of a low-rate hotel… If all of this sounds fun and interesting I strongly recommend checking us out on Patreon where we get into why The McElroy brothers are less fun than they used to be and how much Weezer sucks now. Enjoy the show(s)?   The bed music during our advertising is an old loop by OKU-DA and our intro song is a brand new jam he cooked up just for us (note: both songs do not really reflect his usual style, but do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud. 9ES242: It’s On The Internet It Must Be True

The Montreal podcast that knows your anger, and knows your dreams is back. It’s the podcast that has been everything you want to be. That’s right, CM Punk is back in professional wrestling and that’s pretty cool for about two-thirds of us. We also talk about Scarlett Johansson going toe-to-toe with the House of Mouse and question Netflix’s business model. We also get into obesity. Like we get into it. We are all obese now. We live what we talk about. Not really, but what we do dig into is some of the science (or lack of science) that seems to be tied to human weight gain in the last few years as we look a little at the research going on at Slime Mold Time Mold which I will admit is a weird name for a website. Finally we wrap things up with a little bit of talk about The Masters of the Universe. if you enjoy the show and want to support us do us and yourself a solid and subscribe to the “9ES Deluxe” tier over on our Patreon page. It will be the best decision you make in the next 15 minutes I promise you. The post 9ES242: It’s On The Internet It Must Be True appeared first on 9to5 (dot cc).

The Fantasia International Film Festival podcast series by the good people of 9to5.cc is coming to an end. Sadface. In this episodes the hosts of 9ES discuss: Agnes, Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched and Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes. Boy, we sure did choose some long movie names to cram into that episode image, didn’t we? Once again this year’s Fantasia Festival is mostly online, with only a few films being screened live due to the ongoing pandemic that, spoilers, isn’t over yet! The real horror was Covid-19. I digress. As we have since *checks notes* 2012, the 9to5.cc crew will be watching a whole bunch of Fantasia Festival movies and, as is our wont, we will be recording podcasts about them. Sweet sweet audio reviews of some of the best of genre cinema. Normally we recommend you listen to these reviews while waiting in the long ass lineups waiting to get into the movies but since this year is mostly online maybe you just listen to them while you work or something? The Montreal geek podcast that opens up the show with hot takes about the music of 1994 is back in your ear holes with all three of us on the show! Spoilers: 1994 may have been one of the greatest years in music history I will fight you on this.  While it didn’t come out in 1994, The Color and The Shape by Foo Fighters is definitely one of the greatest albums of the last few decades and we get a little into the somewhat secret past of the song and how it relates to Veruca Salt. We also talk about the fact that Apple is designing tech to look at all of your photos, the Fear Street trilogy streaming now on Netflix, The Army of the Dead (also on Netflix) and wrap things up with a little bit of AEW wrestling talk. 9ES 240: 2 Fast 2 Forty-ous

The Montreal geek and pop culture podcast is back once again and this time we’re taking a look at some of this summer’s biggest blockbusters. In this case Keith went to go see F9 and in a Cineplex VIP cinema and Scott watched Black Widow from the comfort of his own home on Disney+. As I mentioned (repeatedly) in this episode, Scott and I actually recorded this episode in the same room for the first time in over a year. It felt… strange. All the same we are both double vaccinated so this seemed like a good opportunity to see what each other’s feet look like. I mean podcast together. Not a foot thing. No you. As always, we warmly invite you over to our Patreon Page and subscribe to the “9ES Deluxe” level which will get you access to all kinds of great perks, not least of which is “Garbage Time”, the companion episode to each regular episode that we publish. On this week’s Garbage Time Scott gets mad at anyone who put their faith in Kevin Smith when it comes to He-Man and we talk about X-Men comics from the 90s. Remember Revanche? The X-Man? No. That’s because she died of the Legacy Virus or something. We’re deep in the weeds now kids. 9ES 239: Dork Phoenix Saga

The Montreal podcast that takes a look back at the original Dark Phoenix Saga in the same breath that they break down the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals. Scott and Keith lament the loss of the Montreal Canadiens to the Tampa Bay Lightning and whether or not Tampa has the “best fans in the world” – spoilers: they don’t. Sadly, we weren’t aware of the fact that the Bolts dented the freakin’ cup on Monday or surely we would have mentioned that as well. We also talk about UFC 264 and how Tai Tuivasa loves to drink beer out of shoes. Beer. In Shoe. Beer in shoe. Pro sports in 2021 are crazy people. Finally, since Jon isn’t around on this one we really dig into The Dark Phoenix Saga. Comics in the late 70s were super weird man. You know what doesn’t always get talked about? How Jean Grey killed billions of people on a whim! But we talk about it, because we’re a serious podcast talking about the serious topics. If you enjoyed this episode and want even more podcasting goodness, do yourself a favour and head over to our Patreon Page and subscribe to the “9ES Deluxe” package for access to our mailbag and bonus episodes of 9ES Garbage Time. The Montreal podcast that always caters to all of your geeky desires discusses… *checks notes* the Tour de France and the Stanley Cup Playoffs? I guess we are a sports podcast now so you’re just going to have to deal with it. Happy Canada Day! Jon returns from his one show break to talk about that lady who single-handedly tried to ruin the Tour de France. Keith ran a session of the Alien RPG from Free League Press and Scott and Keith both watched Loki and share some fan theories about what is going that will almost certainly be obsolete by next week. We also talk about how weird it is that Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is still actually a ride at Disneyland, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In The Heights” and Keith gets assigned his next movie watching assignment for Best Worst Movie Ever. If you enjoy our brand of podcasting and also comics you should really do yourself a favor and check out the “9ES Deluxe” level over on our Patreon. 9ES 237: Podcast 43

The Montreal podcast that devotes most of its runtime to breaking down “Movie 43” returns in all of its glory. The loyal 9ES listener will notice that Scott and I are holding down the fort alone on this one and they may suspect that once again Jon is having computer issues. They would be wrong though. Jon has just entered the world of active fatherhood so we decided he deserves at least one episode off from our grueling recording schedule. We also talk about the Habs ongoing and unexpected run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, beer cooler backpacks and how inclusive GI Joe has been through the ages. But seriously, most of this episode is about Movie 43 and how awful it is. It’s a shame that Jono missed it. Maybe we’ll make him watch it for his Best Movie Ever. If you enjoy our brand of podcasting and also comics you should really do yourself a favor and check out the “9ES Deluxe” level over on our Patreon. 9ES236: Bades Er Stee

The Montreal podcast that knew deep down the Leafs would blow it returns to bring you musings upon the world of sport, television and comic books. Disclaimer: This podcast was recorded a day before Game 7 of the Habs vs Leafs Playoffs series, we moved the recording date so that we could watch said game and boy did it not disappoint. Also, there is a point of contention here about the over/under on the mob attendance downtown following the Habs victory. The word “riot” gets tossed around, and there certainly was not a riot. So in that sense Scott has the edge, however, I make the statement “there are more than 100 people on Sainte Catherine street if the Habs win” and in that sense, I was also right. I guess it shouldn’t surprise you that in a podcast where we have spent over 200 episodes being so very right about so very many things we would find a way for both of us to be right. We also catch up on Raised By Wolves, Ridley Scott sure loves himself some androids, the Sony store, Spiderman comics and Amazon Prime’s “Invincible.” Get it while the getting is good. Enjoy the show!                                                         The bed music during our advertising is an old loop by OKU-DA and our intro song is a brand new jam he cooked up just for us (note: both songs do not really reflect his usual style, but do yourself a favour and check out his SoundCloud.   The post 9ES236: Bades Er Stee appeared first on 9to5 (dot cc).

The best geek podcast in Montreal (if you ask our moms) is back with your bi-weekly dose of very relevant hot takes. How hot are these takes? They’re as hot as flaming arrow fired by none other than John Rambo that causes an entire building to explode. With all the Rambo movies currently on Netflix, Jon has been working his way through the series. What started as maybe an examination of the mistreatment of veterans through the lense of an 80s action movie evolved rather quickly into basically lone soldier propaganda movies. We easily spend the first half of this episode talking about Rambo you guys. We also spend some time talking about a very silly game that Scott’s kid plays with dinosaurs, start digging into Batman Forever and take a look at some of the inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Join our Patreon at the 9ES Deluxe level for all kinds of perks including access to the 9ES companion show “Garbage Time”, on this week’s patron-exclusive episode we run down all 100 of Rolling Stones “Best Sitcoms of All Time”.
